Report: Jacksonville Jaguars will not pick up fifth-year option for LB Devin Lloyd The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly not picking up the fifth-year option for former first-round draft pick and linebacker Devin Lloyd.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly not picking up the fifth-year option for former first-round draft pick and linebacker Devin Lloyd, according to Jeremy Fowler.
This means that Lloyd, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2025, will be a free agent next offseason.
This report does not come as a surprise, considering that a few weeks ago, when asked about picking up Lloyd's option for the 2026 season, head coach Liam Coen said that there were "no plans right now," and the team was still "having those conversations."
All first-round picks come with a standard four-year rookie deal, but unlike players drafted in Rounds 2 through 7, the team has the ability to pick up or decline a fifth-year option. The Jaguars have already picked up the fifth-year option for Travon Walker.
Had the Jaguars picked up Lloyd's option for next season, Over the Cap projected that his contract for 2026 would have been worth $14.75 million, and it would have been fully guaranteed. This contract value is predetermined by the CBA and based on position, playing time, and whether any Pro Bowls were made.
However, that is now a moot point.
Lloyd finished the 2024 season making 106 of his 111 tackle attempts, and he was among PFF's highest-graded linebackers in the run game. In coverage, he allowed 11.6 yards per catch with one interception and one pass breakup.
With defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile's background working with the linebacker position, along with his malleable defensive scheme that can help further unlock Lloyd's versatility, there might not be another player on the Jaguars defense who benefits more from this coordinator hire than Lloyd.
"We're excited about him," Coen said of Lloyd. "A guy that we see we can do some things with. We do feel excited about some of his versatility and experience. So some of those conversations, they'll be open and honest and communicated."

Steelers To Host Gabe Davis on Free Agent Visit
Steelers To Host Gabe Davis on Free Agent Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers' offense has fluctuated throughout the offseason. It entered March with quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields lingering as options, but watched both depart in free agency. They traded for receiver DK Metcalf and dealt his co-star, George Pickens, away after the NFL Draft. All the while, the fate of quarterback Aaron Rodgers has left the Steelers in limbo. Advertisement After Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, it became clear that 2026 is a priority, and that 2025 will likely look an awful lot like the rest of the post-Ben Roethlisberger era. But there's still work to do to maximize their chances this season, and as free agency slows to a crawl, a handful of veterans remain available. Pittsburgh could use further insulation at receiver, particularly opposite Metcalf on the perimeter. On Tuesday, the front office took a step toward addressing the issue. According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers will host potential starting receiver Gabe Davis on a free-agent visit on Thursday. Davis is coming off the worst year of his career, which culminated in his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars with a failed physical designation. His torn meniscus limited him to just 10 games. In a rudderless Jaguars offense laden with coaching miscues and quarterback changes, Davis managed just 20 catches for 239 yards and two scores. Advertisement Still, it isn't hard to find an optimistic outlook on Davis' game. With the Buffalo Bills, Davis scored 27 touchdowns over the four-year duration of his rookie contract. After two 500-yard campaigns, he took a step forward and posted 836 and 746 yards in 2022 and 2023, respectively. He did so without ever touching 50 receptions in a season. Davis does his best work as a vertical field stretcher whose frame and catch-point prowess make him a threat downfield. That is fairly synonymous with Metcalf, so it's entirely possible that a signing would make him the backup X receiver rather than the starting Z option. Even so, if he's healthy, there's a reasonable chance he improves the receiving corps. Davis' skill set is limited. But if Pittsburgh is just asking him to play for his strengths, the occasional splash play could elevate a concerning passing offense. Schefter also noted that the Steelers checked in on, but are not pursuing, Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith. Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named one of NFL's biggest enigmas entering 2025
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named one of NFL's biggest enigmas entering 2025 Bucky Brooks names the league's seven biggest enigmas in 2025. Kyler Murray is one of them. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is perhaps the team's most polarizing figures. He might be one of the more polarizing players in the league. We saw the talent early in his career and has played stretches of seasons at an MVP level. But he also has had very average stretches, too. As such, Bucky Brooks calls him one of the seven biggest enigmas in the league entering 2025, players who flash greatness but are frustrating. The former No. 1 overall pick is a gifted playmaker with a pair of Pro Bowls and the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year award on his résumé. At times, Murray has played at a high level and captivated the football world as an electric dual-threat quarterback. However, the seventh-year pro sports a 36-45-1 career record and lacks a playoff win as the Cardinals' QB1, having thrown two picks and posted a 40.9 passer rating in his lone postseason appearance. Though his early accomplishments prompted Arizona to sign him to a blockbuster extension (five years, $230.5 million) back in the 2022 offseason, the Cardinals need him to provide more consistent excellence to justify the return on their investment in a league that measures quarterback success by wins and rings. There are reasons for his uneven play. Injuries to him and key players in 2021 derailed their season, leading to their playoff blowout loss. 2022 was just a dumpster fire of a season for a lot of reasons, Murray's play included. But in 2023, he played the back half of the season coming back from ACL surgery with a roster that was gutted. He was better in 2024 but the Cardinals lost five of their final seven games and he turned the ball over more. He has been the quarterback to late seasons failures (2020, 2021, 2024), and while reasons can be given, he needs to shake that reputation. This season is important because the talent on the team more resembles what the Cardinals had in 2021. The defense has been overhauled and, when the Cardinals played great defense in the first half of 2021, Murray was the leading MVP candidate. Is this the year he had things right and carries the weight as a franchise quarterback, or will he simply be the quarterback who is good but not consistently great enough to be the difference maker on a winning team? Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival
Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills have had a lot of question marks at wide receiver over the past few years. The Bills have had more than a few costly departures, from brought in talent such as Stephon Diggs and homegrown talent such as Gabe Davis. Advertisement Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bills. In his four seasons in Buffalo, Davis tallied 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bills did not extend Davis beyond his rookie deal, leading to him signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $39 million contract. Davis struggled in Jacksonville's offense, only catching 20 of his 42 targets and posting 239 yards and two touchdowns. Davis' season was cut short by a torn meniscus in his left knee, only playing in 10 games. The Jaguars released Davis after the season, and he is currently looking for a new home: a home, reportedly, also in the AFC. Advertisement ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Davis is taking a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. "Sources: Former Bills and Jaguars WR Gabe Davis is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday." Schefter posted on X. The Steelers are looking to add playmakers and pass catchers, and Davis is as good of a bounce-back candidate as they can get. "Pittsburgh has been seeking additional receiving help and has inquired about, but is not expected to trade for, Miami TE Jonnu Smith." Shefter added. Davis earned the nickname "Big Game Gabe" during his tenure in Buffalo. He had a number of standout performances for the Bills, namely in the playoffs. Advertisement In the Bills' overtime thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Divisional Round, Davis was the star of the game, despite the loss. Davis tallied 201 yards and four touchdowns on just eight receptions, having one of the greatest playoff performances in Bills' history. His heroics in the divisional game marked just the ninth time a player has recorded 200+ receiving yards in a playoff game, and the first time a receiver has hauled in four touchdowns.
