Isaiah Stewart injury status revealed for Game 3 in Pistons vs Knicks series

Yahoo27-04-2025

Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart's injury status is questionable going into Game 3, the team revealed on Wednesday afternoon's NBA injury report.
Stewart missed the Pistons' final two games of the season, and Monday's Game 2 win over the New York Knicks with right knee inflammation. The fifth-year big man is the backbone of the Pistons' defense, and tried playing through the injury in Game 1 on Saturday before subbing out of the game for good early in the fourth quarter.

After the team's practice Wednesday, Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said Stewart is "day-to-day" going forward. Game 3 will be played at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit at 7 p.m., and the Pistons have a chance to take the series lead after Monday night's upset win in New York.

'I think we all felt it,' Bickerstaff said of Stewart after the team's Game 1 film session Sunday. 'He was phenomenal last night. His effort, how he protected the rim, the energy that he brought, how his teammates fed off of his injury was huge.
"When he's not on the floor for us, we all have to bring that. We have to find a way because we can't just lean on him all the time or expect it to just be him. We have to play with that same ferociousness and that effort that he does.'

Cade Cunningham Tops NBA List With Other Elite Young Players

Cade Cunningham Tops NBA List With Other Elite Young Players originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Pistons are perhaps the most exciting young team in the NBA, and it's all thanks to Cade Cunningham. He broke out as a first-time All-Star this season and made the All-NBA team, and it's expected that he will lead the Pistons deep into the playoffs next season. Advertisement In the NBA, there is a clear hierarchy of young guards. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic, both MVP frontrunners, lead the way, although Cunningham is ahead of some players who looked to be better than him earlier in their careers. Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham© Wendell Cruz-Imagn Images Lou Williams, after winning three Sixth Man of the Year Awards, knows talent when he sees it, and he thinks Cunningham will have a better career than Paolo Banchero and LaMelo Ball. "I got Cade still having the highest ceiling, Paolo was right there, and then I got to cut LaMelo Ball as having the highest ceiling," listed Lou Williams. "This was a tough one. All of these guys still got a lot of basketball to be played, a lot of things to accomplish in their careers. But for the most part, I feel like I got a good sense of where LaMelo Ball is in his career and what type of player that he's going to be. We're still writing a book on these other two guys. So I'm going to start Cade. I'm going to bench Paolo. And I'm going to have to cut LaMelo." Advertisement Both Banchero and Cunningham have led their teams to the playoffs, and both have given a higher seed some trouble. Ball, on the other hand, struggles to command his team and stay on the court. All three stars play in the East, although as the years tick by, the conference will likely run through Detroit and Orlando, once again passing Charlotte over. Detroit Pistons To Test Free Agent Waters With Two Elite Centers

Detroit Pistons To Test Free Agent Waters With Two Elite Centers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Detroit Pistons have seemingly turned the franchise around after finally making the playoffs this season on the back of All-NBA point guard Cade Cunningham. Advertisement Detroit has its lead guard of the future and plenty of young wings, although shooting and center play could be improved, despite the continual improvement from Jalen Duren. In an effort to kill two birds with one stone, the Pistons have been linked to two of the best floor-spacing bigs in the NBA, both of whom will be free agents this summer. Naz Reid and Myles Turner are both expected to explore their options this summer as they hit free agency. Advertisement Turner is still playing in the postseason for the Indiana Pacers, where he has spent his ten-year career. Indiana is expected to aggressively pursue re-signing him, although the Pistons can offer a similar role and more money, depending on which of their own free agents they prioritize. Reid, on the other hand, might be expecting a bigger role than his current spot on the Minnesota Timberwolves' bench. Both Reid and Turner shot well over 37 percent from deep this season, and both averaged roughly 16 points and six rebounds per game. 'The Pistons are among the teams with interest in Timberwolves big man Reid, league sources say," reported insider Marc Stein. "Detroit is known to covet a floor-spacing big man and, according to sources, is likewise said to hold interest in Indiana's Myles Turner." Both would enjoy a starting spot, with Duren either alongside them or coming off the bench. Meanwhile, Cunningham would be an upgrade over both of their current point guards. Pistons' JB Bickerstaff Reveals What NBA Coaches Have To Do To Not Be Fired

Pistons' JB Bickerstaff Reveals What NBA Coaches Have To Do To Not Be Fired originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In the NBA, head coaches rarely retire. Usually, they are fired, and, more often than not, hired by a new team before being fired again. Advertisement This season, Mike Brown, Michael Malone, and Taylor Jenkins were all fired before the season even ended, and Tom Thibodeau followed after the season ended. JB Bickerstaff seems to have some job security as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons, although he has been fired twice before, by the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He recently revealed what is expected from an NBA coach. Detroit Pistons head coach JB. Bickerstaff yells instructions to his team against the Orlando Magic at Little Caesars Horwedel-Imagn Images In 2023, Dwane Casey stepped down as head coach of the Pistons and took on a front office role. He was replaced by Monty Williams, who was fired after one season. Bickerstaff is by no means on the hot seat, although he knows better than anyone that the tides can change. Advertisement "It is not an easy job," Bickerstaff said on Wednesday. "Every year, we sit down with our front office, and we lay out a plan on what a successful season looks have to do more. We have to overachieve in order to progress and move forward." Seemingly every year, coaches have to build on the successes from the season prior. Thibodeau led the New York Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years and seemingly had the franchise moving in the right direction for the first time in decades, although the Knicks decided to part ways with him. Being a head coach in the NBA is never a permanent position, although finding new employment, it would seem, is easy.
