SHANE LOWRY was left kicking himself after a basic blunder at the US Open.

Lowry instantly realised his blunder and cursed his violation of the most basic of golf rules.
And, as per the rules, he was immediately penalised a point - although he could've been docked two.
Lamenting his gaffe, albeit with a smile on his face, he said: 'It's probably one of the stupidest things I've ever done.
"I just picked the ball up.

"I had the ball my hand turned around and [caddie] Darren [Reynolds] he basically said to me, 'What are you doing?'
'I put it back down and marked it and played on and I knew it was gonna get penalised.
"I didn't know if it was going to be one or two.
"But yeah, maybe I was just my mind was somewhere else, but I fought. I still tried."

Another said: "Oakmont has got to Lowry."

And another said: "Not a good thing to do."
One remarked: "Shane's not having a good time."
Another sarcastically chimed in: "He needs to play in the PGA some more."
Lowry ultimately ended up missing the cut for the second time in seven US Open appearances with scores of 79 and 78.
When asked where he went wrong, he said: 'I don't know to be honest.
It's probably one of the stupidest things I've ever done."

'I drove it in play a lot yesterday, did what I was supposed to off the tee.
"And then just didn't have my game that I've had for the last while.
'And then I really struggled on the greens yesterday and the round got away from me here and that was it.
'I let it sort of do [to me] what I said it wouldn't do. But that's Oakmont. That's the US Open.'
American Sam Burns currently tops the leaderboard in three under, with JJ Spaun Jr. a shot behind him in second place.

Scottish NFL player who signed eye-watering $10m contract reveals teammate now a LORD after purchasing Scots land

Jude McAtamney from Derry in Northern Ireland was Gano's back-up last season. All of which made long-snapper Kreiter, from Iowa, the odd man out as a non-Brit. But Kreiter made sure he'll always have a piece of Scotland - much to the amusement of Gillan, who hails from Forres. Gillan, 27, said: 'I would say Graham is like family. I absolutely love that guy. 'Same with Jude who's fitted right in with this little band that we have going on. 'That's three foreigners and Casey, who even bought a square foot of land in Scotland - just so he can be one of us! 'He came into the lunch hall one day and said: 'Hey, just want to let you know you can call me Lord Kreiter from now on'. Most read in NFL COLOUR CHANGE Stoltman brothers make NFL history - but ditch favoured Rangers blue to do so 'He's got the certificate. And he even changed his locker room nameplate to 'Lord Kreiter'! 'It's great, you've got to have fun because game days can be stressful. Scottish NFL star Jamie Gillan's best moments as fans back him for Pro Bowl 'It's important to create this atmosphere in our little room of three or four guys by laughing and joking at the right time. 'We all rely on each other to do our jobs perfectly for one guy to do their job well.' Gillan, whose NFL career began at Cleveland Browns, has penned a new $10m three-year contract with the Giants. He's established as one of the league's top punters - 12 years after first starting American football in high school in Maryland. His RAF squadron leader dad Colin had uprooted the family from the Highlands following a job transfer to the States. Gillan is now dad to two-year-old Archie and his Ohio wife Casey is expecting their second son this summer. He's living the American dream but his sporting roots from Scotland will never leave him. The former teen rugby star for Merchiston Castle in Edinburgh loves educating pals and teammates about his first love. 'I'm looking forward to the Lions tour coming up and I watch the Six Nations every year,' said Gillan. 'Rugby is hard to get live out here but the Six Nations is streamed on Peacock, which is great. 'I get my buddies over to the house; we cook up a big breakfast and the first game starts at 9am. 'There's a few who have a rugby team Cleveland and enjoy it as well. 4 Punter Gillan was a teen rugby star and still follows the sport from the US Credit: Getty 'When I streamed the World Cup a couple of years ago, I had it on in the locker room. 'Guys were sitting around watching it noticing: Wow, they can only pass the ball backwards! 'Trying to explain to them is fun. They think it's mad. I think Scotland has a solid team right now. 'Finn Russell is electric, the pack is awesome. With Duhan Van Der Merwe and Darcy Graham on the other side, they've got some phenomenal players and are playing really well.' Giants are a long way from the glory days when Greenock-born kicker Lawrence Tynes helped them win the Super Bowl in 2008 and 2012. They've a tough task when the season begins in September after winning three of 17 games last year. Their NFC East division is a killer with reigning Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles, last season's surprise package Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys. But they've added defensive star Abdul Carter through the draft and veteran quarterback Russell Wilson who won a Super Bowl with Seattle Seahawks. And Gillan reckons the right spirit is already stirring in their practices to hint at a better 2025. He said: 'As a team, we need to keep working hard to get more wins under our belt. 'Personally, there were ups and downs last season and I want to get more consistent. 'We can only control what we do in this building. If we do that the right way, create relationships and gel as a team, you can be unstoppable - no matter who you're playing against. 'That's what this time of year is for. Working out, working hard, practicing on the field. 'And a few of us golfing, playing darts and pool or getting dinner together. Our locker room vibe has been great. 'People underestimate the importance of those relationships before the real hard work comes round in July.' Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Inside Adam Scott's incredible 96 in a row numbers as golf star eyes Major No 2

Brilliant Australian sublime again as he hears 100-straight Majors Awesome Adam Scott insists it's no fluke to be in the US Open mix during the latest charge of his remarkable Major sequence. The Adelaide ace is on the brink of a cherished second big one at Oakmont as he sits just one shot behind leader Sam Burns with 18 holes to go. ‌ Incredibly, Scott is playing in his 96th consecutive Major championship in a stretch which dates back to The Open at 2001 at Royal Lytham and St Annes. ‌ During this period, he has won the Masters in 2013, finished in the top 10 on 20 occasions and has made the cut in 72 of the 95 majors in which he's competed. Scott's number of successive Major outings is almost double that of next best Jordan Spieth amongst the current crop of players and getting over the line would be special and not happen by accident. He said: 'It would be super fulfilling. Everyone out here has got their journey, Putting ourselves in these positions doesn't just happen by fluke. It's not easy to do it. I really haven't been in this kind of position for five or six years or feeling like I'm that player. But that's what I'm always working towards. It's not that easy to figure it all out. But if I were to come away with it, it would be a hell of a round of golf and an exclamation point on my career. I'm playing good, so there's no reason not to. 'I'm playing from the fairway a lot. I've played fairly conservative, and I haven't really been forcing the issue much. Could be a different story [on Sunday]. A lot can happen in 18 holes out here. But I like what I've done so far.' Scott, whose best previous US Open finish was 10 years ago at Chambers Bay when Spieth won, has coped superbly day-to-day with changing conditions and challenges and was at it again during the Saturday round which has set him up for the final push. He said: 'It was like a readjustment. Obviously it was softer and controlling spin to some pins was very difficult. But I just tried not to force anything. I played safe shots and accepted I wasn't going to finish next to the hole when it wasn't dialled in, like on the 18th. I had not a really good number and I had to throw it out to the right. I had a terrible shot, but I hit it out to the right just not to miss it left and I think I've managed it well. 'I don't know about the yardage books, but I would say I was less overwhelmed coming to Oakmont this time and that's not a knock on the golf course, but maybe just a couple trips around the U.S. Open here, I knew what to expect.'

This weekend England takes on the World XI in this year's Soccer Aid for UNICEF. Harry Redknapp's England squad is hoping to claim a seventh win against their opponents - coached by Peter Schmeichel and Robbie Keane - in the charity clash. And as is customary, both teams will be cheered on from the sidelines by their glamorous other halves. Here we take a look at the line-up of wives and girlfriends. Zara McDermott Former Love Island star Zara is expected to attend the match to support new love Louis Tomlinson. And she might be relieved to hear there won't be any awkward run-ins with her ex Sam Thompson, as he's been forced to pull out due to injury. Zara, 28, and ex-Made in Chelsea star Sam, 32, split in December last year, after five years together. She was first linked to the One Direction singer, 33, in March and they've since been spotted cosying up on dates. The couple recently enjoyed a holiday to Costa Rica, with a source telling The Sun: 'Louis and Zara are going from strength to strength." In March Zara's friends voiced their concerns about Sam, who they claimed was a "loose cannon" who "never wanted to let her go" following their break-up. But Sam - raised more than £1.5m for Unicef by running and biking 260 miles from Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground to Old Trafford - has also moved on and is reportedly dating another former Love Island stunner, Samie Elishi. She also has several acting credits to her name, having appeared in How to Get Away with Murder and Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader. The couple wed in Martin's native Scotland in 2016 and have since welcomed a son together. Martin opened up about meeting his wife at a bar during happy hour, when she was working there as a hostess. He admitted she didn't have a clue who he was, while he was "a right few [drinks] in". "She was kind of forced to put up with me and my pal for several hours," he told the Scottish Daily Express. "It's just amazing that we walked into that bar on that day and I think about it and go, 'If I didn't, then...' You know, she's my wife and we have a kid together now." Martin had a promising football career before he took up acting, having played for Aberdeen as a teenager. Danniella Carraturo 20 Danniella is married to singer Tom Grennan Credit: Instagram/dannipilates 20 They tied the knot last year and keep their personal life quite private Credit: Getty Singer Tom Grennan, 30, will be supported by his wife of a year, Danniella. The brunette beauty, from Ireland, is a Pilates instructor who regularly shows off her stunning physique on Instagram. Danniella and Tom tend to keep their personal life pretty private, but during his tour of Australia he revealed how the couple met. He told the Kyle & Jackie O Show they initially met in a lift before bumping into each other again in a hotel smoking area. But the Little Bit of Love crooner wasn't particularly smooth when it came to making his move. He said: 'I leant in for a kiss, and she was like, 'What the hell are you doing?'' But he clearly upped his game as they tied the knot in Majorca last year. Rachael Bellew 20 Former boxer Tony Bellew met his wife when they were children Credit: Instagram 20 They didn't have a romantic spark until years later when they reconnected Credit: Instagram Former boxer Tony Bellew will be supported by his childhood sweetheart and wife-of-seven-years Rachael. The couple first met when Tony was just nine years old, but their relationship turned romantic when they reconnected while the boxer was working in a nightclub aged 18. They share three sons - Corey, Cobey and Carter. Strong-willed Rachael is allegedly part of the reason her husband took a step back from boxing in 2018. Tony, 42, revealed that she was fed up with him always looking for his next fight - and was furious that he watched boxing during their honeymoon. He recalled: "If I don't stop after this then she is going to divorce me and I have only been married four or five months." Thankfully, he headed his wife's warning and the couple are still happily married. But he did admit before matches that the only person he is scared of is Rachael, joking: 'I'm more frightened of my missus than you. I wouldn't f***ing dare cross her. I wouldn't mess with her." Rachael headed to Australia to support him in I'm A Celeb in 2023 and will be pitch side this weekend. Melanie Vaz Lopez 20 Stunning Melanie has been described by boyfriend Steven Bartlett as his greatest achievement Credit: Instagram 20 Steven flew across the world to win her back after they split Credit: Instagram Dragon's Den star Steven Bartlett tends to be tight-lipped when it comes to his personal life, but he has been dating French influencer Melanie for several years. She too is a businesswoman and has built brands in the beauty and wellbeing sectors, as well as being trained in Reiki healing. Stunning Melanie has also published a recipe book of vegan dishes and runs nutrition guide Booty Academy. The couple first got together in 2016 but split after a year because Steven was too focused on work to commit. But he realised his mistake and in 2022 he jetted to Bali to win her back. 'Getting myself into a loving relationship with a wonderful woman has totally been my greatest achievement,' he gushed to The Sun. 'I wasn't sure if that was going to be possible for me, because what I learned about love at a young age was not very good. It was quite toxic.' The couple have been married since 2009 - and while he was playing all over the world, she doggedly built up her own fitness business. And 14 years of marriage haven't dulled the Springbok's love for his wife. He posted in May: "To the Lioness of our tribe… The real MVP… The one that makes our house a home… Thank you for being the most incredible mother to our two boys. "For carrying the load when I'm not around.. for always putting us first." Janine is reported to have a degree in Sports Science which has bolstered her reputation in the fitness business. The couple began dating in 2009 but like to keep their private life out of the spotlight. In 2015 they married in a stunning ceremony in Florence, Italy. Kimberly, who was often seen cheering on her husband at matches, is believed to have worked as a beautician. In 2014 the couple welcomed their son, Harlow, who they don't share photos of on social media. Joe is sure to be looking for his wife on the sidelines when back on the pitch this weekend. He told The Telegraph back in 2013: "I notice everything. It's weird. I notice the fans, the banners, where my family and friends are sitting. I feel very aware and involved." Sheree Murphy 20 Sheree is famous in her own right as an actress and TV presenter Credit: Getty 20 Sheree met ex Leeds United player Harry Kewell in 2009 in a chance encounter Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd Australian footballer Harry Kewell, 46, will be supported by his TV presenter wife Sheree Murphy, 49. Brit Sheree is known for her acting roles in soaps Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, and for presenting Yes Chef! on BBC1. The couple met in 2009 after they ran into each other at Majestyk nightclub in Leeds while Harry was playing for Leeds United. After two years together they had a spontaneous wedding in Las Vegas and have since welcomed four children - son Taylor, 24, and daughters, Ruby, 22, Matilda, 17, and Dolly, 13. But his high profile hasn't made things easy for their marriage, as he has been the target of other women's amorous attentions. 'It's not nice when any girl comes up to your fella and comes on to them, whether they're in the public eye or not,' Sheree said in 2015. 'My husband has never been the sort to go out and live it large, so I've always been quite lucky and haven't had that many bad experiences. 'But I've had a few rows with a few girls who have hit on him right in front of me, although that was more back in the day." Gemma Atkinson 20 Gemma Atkinson has been in the spotlight for decades thanks to her acting and presenting work Credit: Instsagram 20 Gemma met Gorka while on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017 Credit: Instsagram Gorka Marquez, 34, is swapping his dancing shoes for football boots - and his gorgeous fiancée Gemma will be there to cheer him along. The actress, 40, met the Spaniard while competing on Strictly Come Dancing and the couple started dating in 2018. They share two children - Mia, five, and one-year-old Thiago - and have been engaged since 2021. Gemma is known for her work in Hollyoaks and Emmerdale, and was a lad's mag favourite in the early 2000s. The couple are waiting to tie the knot until their children are older and can be fully present. Gemma said: 'We'd like Thiago to be involved now so we're going to have to wait another year or so. 'When we first got engaged we said we'll get Mia walking down the aisle and then Thiago came along… and there's no time!'
