Plymouth Pride saved after lack of support and funding
A community-led Pride event is set to take place in Plymouth after the official one was cancelled due to lack of funding.Plymouth Community Pride will be led by organisations and businesses including Queer Out Loud, the Barbican Theatre and Deart Promotions as well as volunteers and supporters. It is set to take place on 12 July and there will be a map to direct people to the different events being hosted across the city. Hollis King, one of the organisers, said they thought the event was "so important" and said it showed "what we can do with community".
'Celebrate community'
They added: "So many people in the city were disheartened our city wasn't having a pride. A lot of people didn't want to see that happen."I think it's important, especially now. "There's a lot in politics and the media at the moment, particularly with our transgender brothers and sisters. "I think that's why pride is so important, it's not necessarily an event it's a statement." One of the volunteers, graphic designer Ell McDonough, said said: "We need to celebrate the community and there's no better way to do that than having the community come together to host our own event."

Rita Ora puts on a VERY racy display in skimpy sheer lingerie and tiny hot pants as she cosies up to pal Cara Delevingne before taking to the stage at World Pride in Washington DC
Rita Ora put on a very racy display she posed for sizzling snaps before cosying up to pal Cara Delevingne backstage at World Pride in Washington DC on Friday. The songstress, 34, flaunted her jaw-dropping figure ahead of her performance at the festival in a skimpy sheer leopard print bralette and matching panties. Rita retained her modesty in the eye-popping look which she completed with a black bra and tiny striped hot pants. She accessorised with black knee-high socks and silver trainers, while the last edgy touch were black leather cut-out gloves. Rita posed up a storm in her trailer for the sizzling snaps before being joined by supportive pal Cara, 32. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The supermodel proved once again her quirky sense of style in quirky shades and baseball cap as she beamed for the camera. Rita captioned the post: 'PRIDE BABY! I LOVE YOU!'. Taking to the stage Rita performed her biggest hits for the crowd, as she joined the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Troye Sivan on the line-up. The pride festival is held at Festival Grounds At RFK Campus in Washington D.C. Rita recently boasted about her latest song Heat, which was released on Friday. In the single, she sings: 'Your heat on me. Sex on sight. Anywhere you like. Inside or outside.' Heat is expected to feature on her upcoming, still untitled, fourth album, which will be her first album release since her 2023 You & I. Rita has recently been supporting Kylie for the first leg of her tour after she previously revealed that Kylie's 2023 mega-hit from Tension, Padam Padam was nearly given to her. She accessorised with black knee-high socks and silver trainers, while the last edgy touch were black leather cut-out gloves The synth-pop banger - penned by Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen and producer Lostboy - was a viral hit for Kylie. But several artists were asked if they wanted to record it, including the Anywhere singer, because they didn't feel it was a Kylie song. It comes after she kicked off her support gig on the tour in April at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Rita gushed after her gig: 'First night of the tour, wow the reception was incredible and I'm so grateful for this opportunity to connect with North America. It feels like such a huge compliment to open up for such an icon.' Kylie's Tension Tour will conclude on August 26. She will then head to New York for two shows at Madison Square Garden before stopping for one show at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The star is the highest-selling Australian female artist of all time and the third best- selling in the UK. But she has only now begun to make a name for herself in the US following the success of her viral 2023 hit Padam Padam. In the past Kylie has claimed her failure to catch on stateside didn't phase her and she enjoyed her anonymity there, however, her record label revealed in 2023 that the singer now has her eyes firmly set on cracking the US market.
