Gillian Anderson was ‘profoundly affected' by memoir that inspired The Salt Path

The novel, written by Raynor Winn, follows the author and her husband, Moth, as they lose their home and embark on a long-distance walk with only a few pennies in their pockets.
The X-Files star Anderson, 56, plays Winn in the new film while Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs stars as her husband.
'I first discovered The Salt Path probably about a year and a half or two before they went into prep', she told the Big Issue.
'I bought Ray's audiobook and was profoundly affected by it. I was then trying to find out about the rights.
'I knew Lloyd Levin, one of the producers, when I used to live in LA.
'I reached out after I found out that he had the rights. It had been a few years, did he think it was actually going to happen?
'If he didn't, could I take over the rights or do it with them? He said, 'we are making this', then they came to me for Ray.'
Isaacs, 61, told the magazine: 'It shocked me how quickly and easily they became homeless. One moment they were sure that they were going to keep their home, then they're sitting in court and suddenly there is a date, a ticking clock.'
After they lost their home the couple completed the 1,000km South West Coast Path, which follows the coastline of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset.
As well as delving into the issue of homelessness, the book and film explore Moth's diagnosis of corticobasal degeneration (CBD), a rare condition that can cause gradually worsening problems with movement, speech, memory and swallowing, according to the NHS website.
In 2017, Winn had an article published in the Big Issue and said 'everything changed' for her after this.
The Salt Path was published in March 2018 and became a Sunday Times bestseller.
The film will be released on May 30.

Yungblud announces major tour - with 3Arena night added

Yungblud has announced a major UK and Ireland arena tour for April 2026, kicking off at Dublin's 3Arena. The Idols tour will kick off in Dublin on April 15 before hitting Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham and London, and finishing up at Manchester's AO Arena on 25 April. The announcement follows the release of recent single Zombie - an emotional, anthemic track whose video stars Florence Pugh as an NHS healthcare worker. The single has been described by NME as "soaring and poignant", while the Evening Standard dubbed Yungblud a "genuine Gen Z rock phenomenon." Speaking about the track, Yungblud said: "The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person than who she was before. "It's about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment. "We all want someone or something to comfort us, no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it's f*cking scary." The singer said he was "excited" to be back on tour again. "UK. It's been two years!" Yungblud posted on social media. "I'm so excited to announce our biggest shows yet." The tour follows a milestone year for the Doncaster-born artist. His forthcoming album Idols is due out on 20 June via Locomotion/Island, and he recently hosted the debut edition of his own curated festival, Bludfest, where he also gave away 1,000 free tickets to NHS workers as a show of gratitude. His first book, You Need to Exist: A Book to Love and Destroy, became an instant Sunday Times bestseller upon release. Pre-sale access is available to fans who pre-order Idols from the official UK store before 10am BST on Tuesday 10 June. General sale opens Friday June 13 at 10am.

Fans divided as Tom Felton reprises role as Draco Malfoy for Broadway

Social media have had their say after it was announced that Tom Felton would be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy on Broadway. Tom starred as Harry Potter's school bully in the eight-part film series based on the books, with him regularly speaking about the role that he played for nearly a decade since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 released in 2010. Now, it's been revealed that Tom will be picking up the wand once again, when he reprises his role as Malfoy for Harry Potter: The Cursed Child from November of this year. Pic: Marechal Aurore/ABACA/Shutterstock 'Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life,' Tom said of becoming Malfoy once again. 'Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I'll also be the exact age Draco is in the play.' Despite some fans being happy to see Tom return as Malfoy, others have said that it's a sign of him not being able to let go of the role. 'Gun to the back of your head name 5 Tom Felton roles that isn't him playing Draco Malfoy,' one person wrote on Twitter (X), while another wrote 'He is the only member of the original Harry Potter cast who hasn't moved on.' However, some people were on board with Tom being on the show — with one writing 'Can't believe Tom Felton is actually reprising his role as Draco Malfoy! Filming for the Harry Potter films ended in 2010. 15 years later, he will play Draco once again. How cool is that?' Tom played Draco in all eight films in the Harry Potter series, and appeared in several other films, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Burial. Tom played Draco in all eight films, and will reprise the role for the first time in 15 years.
