Instruct public works department to raze illegal ghat on Ulhas river, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation tells Maharashtra irrigation department
Ulhasnagar: Days after the state irrigation department declared the ghat being built on Ulhas river using BJP MLA Kumar Ailani's funds as illegal and instructed Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) to demolish it, the civic body said that as public works department (PWD) is building the ghat, it should raze it too.
UMC commissioner Manisha Awhale told TOI that they will write to the irrigation department urging them to direct PWD to demolish the illegal ghat.
Of the Rs 7-crore ghat project, more than Rs 3 crore has been spent, said sources.
In 2022, PWD started work after Ailani disbursed MLA funds to build the ghat for Ganpati immersions and a walking path behind Regency Antilia society. Activist Sarita Khanchandani complained to UMC that hundreds of trees were illegally cut on the banks and cement construction was illegally done inside the river bed.
A wall was also built to divert the flow of the river, which could cause a flood situation in the surrounding villages during heavy rain, she complained.
When UMC did not respond, Khanchandani complained to the irrigation department and Thane collector. Earlier, this week, the irrigation department directed UMC to "remove the unauthorised constructions and fillings in Ulhas riverbed".
Sena (UBT)'s Ulhasnagar deputy city chief Dilip Mishra accused Ailani of misusing public money to carry out the illegal construction and demanded a probe by state govt.

Earlier, Ailani had told TOI that the ghat being built in Ulhas River is legal and he has already planted 200 trees in place of the cut trees.
Ulhas river, a vital water source for around 50 lakh people in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Ulhasnagar, Kalyan- Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur, remains in news for pollution-related complaints from citizens. In the past, the National Green Tribunal had issued orders to different authorities to address the pollution of Ulhas River. These orders include imposing environmental damage compensation, forming investigation committees, and directing govt bodies to take action.

Delhi CM campaigns for Jiwan Gupta, accuses Arvind Kejriwal of corruption
Ludhiana: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, who was in the city on Sunday to solicit votes for BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta, trained guns at AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and his Delhi cabinet. She accused them of indulging in corrupt practices over the past 10 years. She said that fresh cases had been registered against Kejriwal and his team and those out on bail could land in jail at any time. She added that the AAP government had not presented a single CAG report in the assembly in the past 10 years, while they had brought six such reports. Now, she said, the law would take its course on corruption. Rekha Gupta also accused former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia of not responding to summons sent to him in lieu of the Ludhiana bypoll. Formula E Race case: KTR to face second round of ACB questioning today
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao is set to appear before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday morning for a second round of questioning in connection with alleged financial irregularities related to the Formula E race in Hyderabad. KTR is accused of the illegal release of funds to the London-based company Formula E Operations (FEO), which was tasked with organising the race. The ACB served notices to KTR on June 13. He was first questioned in Jan this year and was let off after a day-long inquiry. He has now been summoned again to appear before ACB on Monday. "I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for 'investigation' on Monday at 10 am in the Formula E case, where Rs 44 crore was transferred from bank to bank, and the money is very much in the account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials," KTR posted on X on Friday. In its FIR, the ACB alleged that the state govt, during the BRS regime in 2023, transferred funds through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) in violation of established procedures. At that point, KTR, then the minister for municipal administration and urban development (MAUD), allegedly instructed senior officials in his department to ensure HMDA bore the cost of the second edition. ACB officials say the payment was made without following due process, and despite the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). After the Congress govt came to power, it cancelled the planned second edition of the race and ordered an ACB probe into the matter. ACB has already questioned officials from the MAUD department, including former principal secretary Arvind Kumar, and representatives from Ace Nxt Gen and FEO.
