China Considers Ordering Hundreds of Aircraft from Airbus

China is reportedly preparing to place a major order for hundreds of aircraft from European aerospace giant Airbus, according to sources cited by Bloomberg News.
The potential deal is expected to be finalised next month, coinciding with a high-profile visit by European Union leaders to Beijing to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and the EU.
The discussions are still ongoing, with Chinese airlines negotiating the exact number and types of planes to be purchased. Sources
indicate
the order could include around 300 aircraft, covering both narrow-body and wide-body models, with estimates ranging between 200 and 500 planes in total.
While the talks remain fluid and could either extend over a longer period or fall through, the timing aligns closely with visits from French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and other European leaders planned for July.
This visit marks the golden anniversary of China-EU diplomatic ties and is expected to highlight the long-term strategic partnership between the two sides.
France and Germany hold the largest shares in Airbus, making the deal especially significant for both countries. A large-scale contract with Airbus would allow Chinese President Xi Jinping to send a strong message to US President Donald Trump amid ongoing trade tensions between the world's two largest economies.

ICE Officers, Deportees Trapped in Djibouti Shipping Container
Taarek Refaat US federal court documents reveal that approximately 12 Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers (ICE) and eight deportees are suffering from illnesses and living in harsh conditions inside a metal shipping container in Djibouti. More than two weeks ago, Boston federal judge Brian E. Murphy halted a deportation flight transporting migrants from Cuba, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Mexico to South Sudan, ruling that the operation violated his April injunction, which prohibits deporting people to countries other than their home countries without giving them an opportunity to seek humanitarian protection. The judge ordered the responsible authorities to conduct humanitarian protection screenings in accordance with the Convention against Torture. Instead of returning them to the United States, authorities transported the migrants to Djibouti, where a shipping container was converted into a temporary detention center inside the only US military base in Africa, Camp Lemonnier. Melissa Harper, a senior immigration official, testified in court that three officers and eight detainees arrived at the base unprepared for potential hazards, such as extreme temperatures, air pollution, and the security threat from Yemen. She added that the officers were not provided with protective clothing or equipment, despite advance warnings of "an imminent threat of rocket attacks from groups in Yemen." Tesla Shares Recover amid Calls to De-escalate Tensions between Trump, Musk
Taarek Refaat Tesla shares recovered from heavy losses amid signs that the rift between CEO Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump is easing, easing investor concerns about the potential political fallout for the electric car maker. Tesla shares rose 5% in early trading. Politico reported that Musk and Trump were expected to speak on Friday, but a White House official told Reuters there were no plans for a call. Musk indicated via his X social media platform that he was open to easing tensions with Trump. The dispute between Trump and Musk wiped more than $150 billion off Tesla's market value on Thursday, the company's largest single-day drop. Tensions escalated after Musk escalated his criticism of a tax and spending bill that proposed partially ending a $7,500 tax incentive for electric vehicle buyers by the end of 2025.
