Jordan: Syrian market is 'strategic' partner for trading sector — Syndicate
AMMAN — President of the Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate, Sultan Allan, said that the Syrian markets are one of the most "important" sources of providing products for the clothing, shoes and fabrics sector in Jordan.
Allan said in a statement on Thursday that the "historical" relations between traders in the two countries facilitate trade transactions between the two sides, and enhance opportunities for cooperation and economic exchange.
He added that there are some products of clothing, shoes and fabrics that are difficult to find suitable alternatives in terms of quality, price and design, stressing that the Syrian market is the "closest" to Jordanians in several respects, most notably the similarity in dress styles between Jordanian and Syrian families, in addition to ease transportation, which contributes to reducing prices of products.
Allan added that Syrian industry requires production inputs, and that Jordanian markets are capable of providing these requirements "effectively" and "efficiently", which would enhance industrial integration between the two countries.
He explained that the syndicate supports opening trade channels with Syria and supports government efforts, alongside the private sector, in order to activate joint trade exchange.
Allan also pointed out that the Syndicate, operates under the umbrella of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC), of which represents the commercial sectors in the Kingdom.
It submits proposals that provide a "proper" environment to eases customs clearance for exports and imports.
He commended the role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in managing this file, based on scientific and practical approaches, which contributes in strengthening the trade channels between Jordan and Syria.

US and Chinese trade negotiators to meet in London
The US and China will hold talks in London on Monday in an attempt to preserve a fragile truce on trade. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are to lead the delegation from Washington. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who led his country's negotiating team in Geneva in May, is also at the head of Beijing's team in London. "The meeting should go very well," US President Donald Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News on Sunday that "we want China and the United States to continue moving forward with the agreement that was struck in Geneva". While the government of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has repeated it is not involved in the content of the discussions, a representative said: "We are a nation that champions free trade." UK authorities "have always been clear that a trade war is in nobody's interests, so we welcome these talks", the representative added. The talks in London come a matter of days after Mr Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held their first publicly announced phone call since the Republican returned to the White House. Mr Trump said the call, which took place on Thursday, reached a "very positive conclusion". Mr Xi was quoted by state-run news agency Xinhua as saying that "correcting the course of the big ship of Sino-US relations requires us to steer well and set the direction". The call came after tensions between the countries had soared, with Mr Trump accusing Beijing of breaching a tariff de-escalation deal reached in Geneva in May. "We need China to comply with their side of the deal. And so that's what the trade team will be discussing" in London, Ms Leavitt said. In April, Mr Trump introduced sweeping worldwide tariffs that hit China hardest. At one point, the US imposed levies on China of 145 per cent, as both sides engaged in tit-for-tat escalation. China's countermeasures on US goods reached 125 per cent. After two days of talks in Switzerland, the two sides agreed to reduce their tariffs for 90 days. But differences over certain issues have persisted, including China's restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals used in tech products. The impact of the tariffs was reflected in the latest official export data released on Monday in Beijing. Exports to the US fell by 12.7 per cent in May, with China shipping $28.8 billion worth in goods. This was down from $33 billion in April, China's General Administration of Customs has said. Throughout talks with the US, China has opened discussions with other trading partners, including Japan and South Korea, in an effort to build a united front to counter Mr Trump's tariffs. On Thursday, Beijing turned to Canada, with the two sides agreeing to regularise channels of communication after a period of strained ties. China is expected to host a summit with the EU in July, marking 50 years since Beijing and Brussels established diplomatic ties.

Dubai real estate: Strategic investment hotspots emerge as market posts historic $18.19 billion transactions in May 2025
Dubai's real estate market posted yet another month of record-breaking activity, with sales transactions reaching AED66.8 billion ($18.19 billion) across 18,700 deals last month. In its May 2025 report, Property Finder revealed that this historic achievement represents a staggering 44 percent year-over-year surge in transaction value and a solid 6 percent increase in volume, signaling robust market confidence and sustained investor appetite for Dubai properties. 'Just when we thought April was Dubai's most significant month in terms of transaction value at AED62.1 billion, May eclipsed this with AED66.8 billion in transaction value. This underscores the sustainability of the trends driving current growth,' stated Cherif Sleiman, chief revenue officer at Property Finder. Primary ready sales surge 314 percent The historic performance of Dubai's real estate market was driven by strong growth in ready transactions for both primary and secondary segments. Primary ready sales more than quadrupled compared to May 2024, reaching AED17.9 billion. This represented a 314 percent increase in value across 2,400 transactions and a 145 percent growth. Secondary ready sales also reached a new peak, with 6,078 transactions worth AED24 billion, representing 8 percent and 21 percent year-over-year growth in volume and value, respectively, underscoring strong and sustained demand in the resale market. 'Dubai continues to lead real estate innovation by example, as evidenced by the recent launch of the region's first licensed tokenized property investment platform by Dubai Land Department. With the remarkable growth in population this year, welcoming nearly 1,000 new residents each day, double that of last year's daily visitor arrivals, demand for housing is poised to reach peak levels,' added Sleiman. The primary market continued to dominate in May 2025. Overall, primary ready and off-plan sales skyrocketed, rising by 65 percent year-over-year to reach AED37 billion. Meanwhile, the secondary sales market set a new record in May 2025, with AED29 billion in transaction value and 8,471 transactions, up 23 percent and 15 percent year-over-year, respectively. 'Against this backdrop, the real estate market is enjoying positive momentum, fuelled by digital transformation, international investor appetite, and a surge in demand for premium living,' added Sleiman. Strategic investment hotspots emerge Across Dubai's real estate market, key investment areas emerged last month. Business Bay emerged as a premium investment magnet, capturing 5 percent of total primary transaction value despite representing only 3 percent of volume, indicating high-value, sophisticated investment activity. Meanwhile, Al Barsha demonstrated broad market appeal, accounting for 2 percent of total value while commanding 5 percent of transaction volume, showcasing strong demand across price points. A notable AED1.5 billion land transaction in Palm Deira further underscored institutional confidence in Dubai's long-term growth trajectory, bolstered by strong resale activity in key communities such as Business Bay, Al Barsha and Wadi Al Safa 3. 'Real estate leaders who participated in Property Finder's recent roundtable are confident of transaction activity picking up throughout 2025, buoyed by unprecedented interest from international investors, alongside a strong off-plan performance and vibrant luxury resale activity. These trends speak to the city's enduring appeal and resilience, even amid global uncertainty. As Dubai shapes the future of real estate, Property Finder remains committed to empowering buyers and investors with the insights they need to move with confidence,' Sleiman added. While studios attracted 21 percent of rental searches and only 15 percent of purchase interest, one-bedroom units commanded 35 percent of purchase searches and 38 percent of rental searches. This imbalance could potentially suggest that while studios are more attractive for budget-conscious renters, buyers tend to prioritize larger units due to perceived long-term value, livability or investment potential.
