Fans Think JJ Redick Subtly Called Out Luka Doncic After Lakers' Playoff Exit
The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of this year's playoffs in five games. It was a stunning exit for the Lakers, who were projected to compete for the championship after they acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in February.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka conducted their end-of-the-season press conference on Thursday with local reporters. Redick, who was hired last summer despite never coaching in the NBA, said some of his players need to be in better shape next season.

After Redick's quote went viral on X, fans started to wonder if the coach was subtly calling out Doncic, who was traded by the Mavericks due to conditioning and defensive issues.
"Publicly sending shots to Luka?" one fan wrote.
"Luka Doncic," another fan said.
Doncic was targeted by Timberwolves players on defense during the five-game series. He routinely got blown by on defense and didn't show much effort in getting back on defense after missing shots near the basket.
Even though Doncic averaged 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists in the Lakers-Timberwolves series, many Los Angeles fans want the All-Star to get in better shape this summer.

"Luka time to step up," one fan said.
"Luka plays like he's moving a piano on his back," another fan wrote.

Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists this season with the Mavericks and Lakers. He shot 45.0% from the field, 36.8% from beyond the arc and 78.2% from the free-throw line.
However, his defense wasn't pretty to watch.
The Lakers can offer Doncic a four-year, $229 million contract in August. Doncic will make $46 million next season. He has a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 season.

Rays' Wander Franco charged for illegal gun possession amid sexual abuse trial
The post Rays' Wander Franco charged for illegal gun possession amid sexual abuse trial appeared first on ClutchPoints. Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco, who was placed on administrative leave in August of 2023 before being moved to the restricted list last July, is now officially facing another legal case. He is currently standing trial in his native Dominican Republic for the alleged sexual abuse of a minor, sexual exploitation against a minor and human trafficking. If convicted, Franco could serve up to 30 years in prison. Prosecutors are also charging him for a separate arrest that took place in November. As of Sunday, the former All-Star is accused of illegal possession of a handgun, via ESPN. The alleged crime is said to have taken place in a parking lot altercation in San Juan de la Maguana. Police found the firearm, which is registered in the name of Franco's uncle, in the 24-year-old's vehicle and arrested him. His attorneys claim that there is no legal issue since the gun is licensed. He could find himself back in court at a future date. Franco is already facing extremely serious charges as we speak. Prosecutors state that he 'kidnapped' a then-14-year-old girl for 'sexual purposes' and paid the minor's mother thousands of dollars in order to gain her consent. They claimed to have conclusive evidence against the athlete before his trial started on June 2. The Rays signed Wander Franco to an 11-year, $182 million deal in 2021, which remains the biggest contract they have ever committed to a player. Obviously, they considered him to be a transformative talent who could lead the franchise through the 2020s. Because he is on the restricted list, Tampa Bay is not presently on the hook for its investment. Prosecutors intend to take Franco to trial for his gun charge. His current trial continues in Puerto Plata. He maintains his innocence and called for justice before the proceedings began. Apparently, there is a possibility the public has to wait approximately eight months for a verdict. Lakers Risk Losing Myles Turner Without Major Roster Move
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Lakers will be at the forefront of the basketball universe this summer. While that's usually the case, all eyes will be on whether the Lakers could land a star big man, something that they lacked in the second half of the season. It's clear as day that the Lakers need to bolster their center position. They were in a tough spot last season after they traded Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic. Although the Lakers upgraded in terms of superstar, it left a massive hole at the center position. That played a huge role in the team's downfall in the postseason. However, the attention has shifted to the offseason and whether the Lakers can land the star big man. L.A. will have its options, and one name they'd love to add is Pacers center Myles Turner. Photo byTurner is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but as things stand, the Lakers cannot afford him. According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Lakers will need to shed salary if they want a shot at Turner. "While the Lakers do not have cap space to sign free agent Myles Turner, for example, Los Angeles does have a 2031 or 2032 first-round pick, five years of pick swaps, 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht and over $70 million in expiring contracts (Reaves, Dorian Finney-Smith, Rui Hachimura, Maxi Kleber and Gabe Vincent) to use in a trade," said Marks. Turner could be a player the Lakers could have greatly benefited from. While a lob threat archetype usually thrives alongside Doncic, Turner is able to space the floor and provide some rim protection. Turner is currently 29 years old and will turn 30 next March. The Lakers may not have the best assets in a trade, but if they really want to sign Turner, they certainly have the ability to move players like Reaves, Finney-Smith, Hachimura, Kleber, and Vincent to clear up cap space. Turner's market is high. As things stand, it is likely that he will sign at around $30 million annually. Prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals, ESPN's Shams Charania shared how the Pacers are expected to enter the luxury tax to retain Turner. If the Pacers were to do so, it would be the first time they would do so in 20 years. It won't be easy for the Lakers to sign Turner, which is why trading for a starting center may be the best route. Why Thunder's Aaron Wiggins is ‘grateful' for Finals opportunity in Game 2
The post Why Thunder's Aaron Wiggins is 'grateful' for Finals opportunity in Game 2 appeared first on ClutchPoints. OKLAHOMA CITY — For Oklahoma City Thunder guard Aaron Wiggins, staying ready amid inconsistent playing time never promises an increased role on the biggest stage in the NBA. After finishing with three points and one steal in nine minutes, Wiggins turned in his biggest performance of the postseason. He finished with 18 points on 6-of-11 shots, including 5-of-8 from deep, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in a 123-107 win against the Indiana Pacers. Advertisement After a one-point loss, the Thunder tied the NBA Finals, 1-1. After Wiggins and the Thunder put the finishing touches on a 16-point blowout win in Game 2, he spoke about his humble beginnings and why staying ready is critical to his role in Oklahoma City. 'I think about it all the time, being from Greenboro, my journey early on, it taught me to be grateful,' Wiggins said. 'To take advantage of the opportunities I get, teams that I played for, and I was kind of like a late bloomer. That helped my journey. It kind of helped me mentally to not be afraid, regardless of what moment may be in front of me, or of what is asked of me.' Wiggins and Thunder veteran Alex Caruso (20) combined for 38 points against the Pacers, which is the third time two bench players combined each scored 18+ points in a single NBA Finals game since the 1970-71 campaign. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Aaron Wiggins' play in Thunder win Kyle Terada-Imagn Images Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander commended Aaron Wiggins' performance in Game 2. After hearing plenty of oohs and aahs off of Wiggins' impressive dribble move against Tyrese Haliburton, it was that kind of night for the Thunder reserve. Advertisement Wiggins' performance was the talk of the Thunder's media availability after Game 2, which Gilgeous-Alexander took the time to highlight Wiggins' 18-point performance. 'It's big time. It's impressive to me. He's been exactly who he's been all year throughout the playoffs,' Gilgeous-Alexander said. 'Sometimes he [gets] 20 minutes. Sometimes gets two minutes. Sometimes he gets 10. It's all over the place, and no matter what, he finds a way to impact winning for us. And you need it in the biggest moments. No one-man show when you're in the NBA championship. 'For him to rise to the occasion or just be who he's been in the biggest moment of his basketball career is pretty gutsy. Says a lot about the competitor and the man he is,' Gilgeous-Alexander concluded. The Thunder will look to grab their first lead of the NBA Finals in Game 3 against the Pacers on Wednesday.
