Food lover sparks outrage with 'horrifying' video after cooking crabs ALIVE for a seafood boil

Daily Mail07-05-2025

A food lover has sparked outrage with a 'horrifying' video after cooking crabs alive for a seafood boil.
The controversial creator, who goes by Chels on TikTok, posted a now-viral video to demonstrate an air fryer recipe that involved using live crabs.
In the clip, she seasoned boiled potatoes and corn before putting two live Maryland blue crabs into a glass bowl.
She seasoned the crabs while they were alive - with their legs still moving - before turning on her air fryer that was set to 400 degrees.
'I used the fish setting cause it didn't have a crab setting and I let them cook for about 15 minutes,' Chels explained.
The video then cut to show the crabs - that had turned a deeper red color - inside the air fryer.
But, to the horror of viewers, their legs were still twitching.
She added: 'Don't knock it till you try it. It was kinda sad watching them, kind of, you know, but these crabs came out so good and juicy.'
A food lover has been slammed on TikTok for her cruel way of cooking crabs for a seafood boil. Chels, who goes by contentwithcee on TikTok, posted a now-viral video showing her recipe for a crab boil in the air fryer - that involved live crabs.
Chels said she would be 'airfrying her crabs from now on.'
But the uncomfortable video left many viewers horrified with thousands taking to the comments to criticize Chels' 'insane' and inhumane cooking method.
'Being seasoned before death is wild,' someone wrote.
'Crabs have a nervous system by the way and feel pain,' another informed.
'"There was no crab setting." Hmm I wonder why,' a person commented.
Another stated: 'Crabs not only feel pain, they can also experience fear and memory.'
'Slow cooking an animal alive is a whole new level of animal torture,' a person said.
'Your air fryer didn't have a crab setting because it's an insane thing to do,' another comment read.
'They suffered…' another wrote, while someone else said, 'There was literally no need to put them in alive,' and 'Some people have zero sympathy and it's scary.'
'Why do I feel like I'm accessory to a crime?' one person wondered.
'This gotta be some sort of torture, right?' another questioned.
One person advised Chels how to humanely kill the crabs before cooking: 'Put it in the fridge and then smack the apron on the edge of the counter and it will instantly end the crab. No need to torture it like this.'
'Nahh, this ain't right, they red and still moving…' someone pointed out.
'There is no crab setting because CRABS FEEL PAIN,' another person argued.
One person wrote: 'I'll never understand torturing an animal before it dies. I completely understand that people have to eat but this is wild. Troll account or not, this was too much.'
'Ma'am, that crab is literally kicking in agonizing pain - straight chorus line kicking,' someone commented.
Many comments have also urged the TikTok creator to remove the video, but she has yet to comment on any of the backlash.

Saffron regularly shares videos of herself tucking into a pizza or greasy meal of an evening, and has found herself criticised for how frequently she relies on takeout food. 3 Saffron has a takeaway for dinner every night, but doesn't pay Credit: Tiktok/saffronmariexx 3 Instead she gets her devoted 'pay pigs' to pick up the cost of the meals Credit: Tiktok/saffronmariexx However, in a new TikTok, she explained that she saves herself during the day so that she can chow down guilt free at dinner time. "Eating really late means there's hardly any options available, especially where I live," she said. And given that she relies on "pay pigs" to buy her meals for her, she always chooses to collect them from the food outlets. "There aren't many places you can really collect from," Saffron added. "So yes, we've got another Domino's." But she admitted that if she had to use her own money, she wouldn't choose the same food. "Today with my own money I have had one meal, which was a green vegan juice, and an acai bowl - a mini one as well," she continued. "I don't snack, so it's not like I'm eating these big meals and then snacking all day, so I'm not making excuses for it." So while her "meal choices are poor", when she buys her food herself, they "aren't that bad". "I do have one other thing to say as well about all of this," she concluded. "I'm really not because the chances of anything happening by a complete stranger is a real thing unfortunately," Saffron replied. "And most of these guys are from areas hours and hours away from me!"
