AlDr. Al-Rawashdeh assumes his duties as Director General of the National Center for Agricultural Research
sarahanews – Professor Ibrahim Mohammad Al-Rawashdeh officially assumed his duties today as Director General of the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), following a Royal Decree endorsing the Council of Ministers' decision. He achieved the highest score in the competitive selection process, in accordance with the Government Leadership System.
Prof. Al-Rawashdeh holds a Ph.D. in Biodiversity, Biotechnology, and Medicinal Plants from the University of Jordan. He brings extensive experience in research and academia, along with strong managerial and operational skills. To date, he has completed 35 specialized training courses—22 in biodiversity, gene banking, biotechnology, genetic modification, and gene transfer—plus three in agricultural statistical analysis and two in information technology, including full ICDL certification.
Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Al-Rawashdeh has occupied key research and administrative roles. At NARC, he served as Director of Biotechnology and Research Stations and coordinated numerous local and international research initiatives. At Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, he was Dean of the College of Science, Vice Dean for Scientific Research, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Head of the Department of Biology.
In recognition of his scholarly productivity—over 28 published research papers—he received accelerated promotions in rank and salary in 2014 and again in 2017, positioning him for early advancement to full Professor. His contributions to scientific research include more than 48 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals and ten presentations at global and regional conferences. He has played an active role in graduate education, evaluating 28 master's theses, acting as second supervisor for 'Genetic Diversity of the Wild Artemisia Complex in Jordan,' and co-supervising the Ph.D. dissertation 'Genetic Relationships Among Thyme Species.'
Prof. Al-Rawashdeh has represented Jordan at academic gatherings in 12 countries—Italy, Germany, France, Austria, South Korea, Malaysia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. He is a member of 27 national and international scientific organizations, including the Arab Science and Technology Foundation in the UAE. His excellence has been honored with three monetary awards from NARC for outstanding research and the Ideal Employee Award. He has also chaired multiple committees for parliamentary and municipal elections.

He has also actively participated in both international and local scientific conferences with specialized academic research. In recognition of his academic standing, Dr. Abu Danneh has served on several boards and councils, most notably the Board of Trustees of Al-Isra University, and the Editorial Board of the Jordanian Journal of History and Archaeology issued by the University of Jordan. He has also appeared in several international documentaries on the history of antiquities in Jordan, including productions by the BBC. Dr. Abu Danneh has been a member of numerous thesis and dissertation defense committees in Jordanian universities and has represented the Kingdom in various local and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. He played an active role in securing the Al Hassan Award for Scientific Excellence during his tenure as Dean of the Petra College for Tourism and Archaeology.

Experts at U.S. Embassy: The National Seed Bank is a Pioneer in Biodiversity Conservation
Ammon News - Professor Dr. Ibrahim Mohammad Al-Rawashdeh, Director General of the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), received a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Amman. The delegation included Dr. Seckinger, Director of the Regional Environmental Office; Muhannad Shahwan, Agricultural Specialist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture; Jomertz, Economic Officer specializing in water and the environment; and Yara Abu-Laban, Regional Environmental Specialist. The visit aimed to gain insight into the operations of the National Seed Bank affiliated with NARC. During the visit, the U.S. Embassy delegation praised the leading role of the National Agricultural Research Center in conserving biodiversity and safeguarding plant heritage. They expressed the embassy's interest in future collaboration with the National Seed Bank to enhance biodiversity efforts. The delegation noted that NARC benefits from a new leadership that has advanced the scientific research environment and boasts extensive expertise in biodiversity, evidenced by 48 scientific papers published in this field. Dr. Al-Rawashdeh stated that the National Seed Bank was established under Royal directives and aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision and the National Sustainable Development Plan, which the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture is implementing. The Seed Bank focuses on the genetic characterization of wild relatives of local seeds, particularly those evaluated by NARC researchers for phenotypic traits to support breeding and crop improvement programs. He added that the center aims to expand research related to the integration of modern technologies such as tissue culture and molecular techniques in the evaluation of wild relatives and local landraces of economically valuable crops. This is to accelerate the development of economically viable varieties in line with national strategic goals aimed at enhancing food security. He also emphasized that NARC looks forward to joint efforts to position the region as a promising source of genetic diversity that can serve both the local area and the broader region.

Minister of Government Communications and Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani emphasized that specialized, credible scientific media is the first line of defense against fake and misleading information. He stated that when scientific understanding tools and communication channels with research centers are available, media becomes more capable of creating an advanced community awareness. اضافة اعلان During his speech at the second scientific conference titled "Scientific Journalism: Between Reality and Leading Change," organized by the Faculty of Media at the Middle East University, Al-Momani pointed out that despite the transformative effects of artificial intelligence on the media landscape and the tools it offers for content development, it poses precise challenges regarding content reliability, publishing standards, and adherence to journalistic ethics and codes of conduct. Al-Momani stressed that His Majesty King Abdullah II's significant focus on the comprehensive modernization vision, with its three pillars—political, economic, and administrative—requires enhancing the efforts of all sectors, especially the media, to keep up with the demands of the digital transformation era. The minister explained that the conference represents an important milestone in the development of media, as it plays a crucial role in knowledge production, analysis, and dissemination to the community in a scientific and responsible manner. It also opens the door for serious discussions on the roles of media in an era where scientific and technological transformations are accelerating. He added that the importance of specialized scientific journalism increases in the face of sectoral challenges such as health, environmental, and economic issues. Today, specialized and trained journalists are expected to understand, analyze, and explain rather than simply convey information. He called for the establishment of training platforms that enable students to engage with digital tools consciously and skillfully and to enhance partnerships between journalists, researchers, and technology specialists. Al-Momani also affirmed the Ministry of Government Communication's interest in the outcomes and recommendations of the conference, which aim to support an environment of media transparency, credibility, and specialization in line with the country's modernization and development vision. Dr. Salameh Al-Mohadin, President of Middle East University, noted that the conference this year focuses on addressing the key challenges faced by scientific journalism, building on the success of the first conference last year, which addressed topics such as obesity in the media and shaping public awareness around climate change. She highlighted the lack of specialization and scientific knowledge among some journalists, which leads to oversimplification or distortion of scientific information, and the absence of specialized training programs in scientific journalism in many Arab media institutions. She also pointed out the scarcity of local scientific content, with scientific journalism often relying on foreign sources, alongside the lack of published and accessible local scientific research in Arabic. Al-Mohadin added that scientific journalism is often not prioritized in many Arab media outlets and is sometimes constrained by political or religious factors, leading to the omission or restriction of coverage on sensitive topics such as reproductive health or genetic research. The lack of general scientific culture also affects the public's engagement with scientific journalism, reducing the demand for such content. Dr. Ramzi Abu-Hassira, Dean of the Faculty of Media at Middle East University, explained that this conference follows up on the recommendations from the first scientific journalism conference and continues the academic and research path the faculty adopted last year. It aims to establish a solid interactive dialogue platform, bringing together scholars, researchers, journalists, and specialists from Jordan, Palestine, Algeria, the UAE, Egypt, and Iraq to bridge the gap between the community and scientific knowledge producers. The conference also aims to highlight the challenges facing scientific journalism amid rapidly advancing technology and the growing role of artificial intelligence, emphasizing transparency and credibility in the dissemination of scientific knowledge. The goal is to provide methodological recommendations that contribute to improving the reality of scientific journalism both nationally and regionally.
