Among the mountains of used toys, mismatched mugs, and bric-a-brac, there are hidden gems that are worth serious cash.

There are always hidden gems to be found at the outdoor sales

And nobody knows that better than thrifty Mary Hagan, from North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
She picked up her love for car boot sales from her parents, visiting Paddy's Market in Glasgow every week as a family before it was closed down by the city council in 2009.
She said: "I loved it and was very sad to see it close, as were loads of others.
"It was a big talking point in Glasgow years ago and families and friends would meet to show their bargains off.
"I even got my prom dress there for high school. It was a £5 bargain but I felt amazing in it.
"Times were hard then and although my mum worked, my dad didn't due to his health but it didn't stop us ever looking good."
Now, the 48-year-old loves nothing more than scouring car boot sales and charity shops in her local area.
"I've had loads of bargains over the years", she told Fabulous.
"I hardly ever buy anything new. But I love it as it saves things going to the landfill, and it's better for your pocket.
"Also, with the way things are going, you need every penny you can get to survive."

If she's at her caravan holiday home, Mary ventures through to the Silloth boot sale in Cumbria - which she hails as a "money town where you're guaranteed the best".
And it's here that she bagged a £600 designer gem for just £8.
The tan Mulberry Alexa satchel was wrapped in a dust bag when Mary stumbled across it towards the end of the day.
After sharing her find on TikTok (@mazzah77), she said: "I asked if I could have a look. The seller said 'of course' and I knew instantly I was onto a winner.
"I could tell it was genuine right away. It's real leather, and the insides, the emblems, and condition are all spot on.

"I asked how much and the seller had said because it was the end of day £10.
"Inside I was like 'wow I'm definitely taking it anyway' but the Glaswegian in me knew to haggle. I mean, who goes to a car boot and doesn't haggle? It's part of the excitement.
"So we agreed on £8. I was delighted and walked away Googling it straight away to realise a pre-loved Mulberry bag the exact same was fetching £600.
"I don't know if I will resell or keep it, it's not my usual style so who knows - if the price is right!"
She adds: "It's always worthwhile going to car boots and charity shops as you just never know what you will find.
"Just remember to rummage and haggle."

From this week, those wanting to install an EV charger will no longer require planning permission from a local authority. The new move by Labour is expected to save driver £1,100 a year, as well as months of delays. Liberty to install EV chargers was already the case for most on a private property with off-street parking. But for larger public developments, a green light from local authorities was required. CEO of charger provider Osprey, Ian Johnston, told Autocar last year: "The problem is you've got to go through a process which is under-resourced and takes six to nine months to get planning permission.' The process has been deemed a key bottleneck in the roll-out of the nation's EV and charging network. The Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said: "We're cutting down on paperwork to power up the EV revolution so that drivers, businesses and those looking to make the switch will have more charge points to power from and less red tape to deal with." These rule changes hope to help the "EV revolution" by what Ms Greenwood considers making it "easier than ever to install EV chargers" for EV drivers across the UK. The Labour MP continued: "We continue to make the switch to EVs easier, cheaper and better by investing over £2.3billion to support drivers and back British carmakers through international trade deals - creating jobs, boosting investment and securing our future as part of our Plan for Change." Nissan is looking to raise £5.2billion to stay afloat, with UK Export Finance underwriting a £1billion loan - which will support the beleaguered company. Now, the company has started offering buyouts to US workers and has suspended merit-based wage increases worldwide, reports Reuters. As part of the cuts, Nissan has offered separation packages to workers at its Canton plant in Mississippi. Salaried workers in human resources, planning, information technology and finance have also been offered similar packages. Merit-based pay increases have also been suspended worldwide by Nissan for the current business year, in a separate email seen by Reuters. Christian Meunier, Nissan America's chairman, said the buyouts are 'crucial for Nissan's comeback' in the US, its most important market. 'While substantial efforts have been made in the US to help right-size Nissan, we need to take additional, limited, strategic action here at a local level,' Meunier said in an email. And Nissan has also discontinued its cheapest model, the manual-equipped Versa, according to reports. The Japanese automaker halted making the Versa with the five-speed manual at its Aguascalientes, Mexico, factory, according to Automotive News. The publication stated that a "person with knowledge of the matter" revealed that the most affordable new car on the market would see "production cease". It is understood that the rest of the Versa lineup will continue as usual but this is yet another huge blow to the carmaker. It is hoped that the £1billion loan from Nissan's lenders, underwritten by The Government, will protect the site. The huge cash injection is just a fifth of the 1Trillion Yen needed by the company to survive. It will also look to issue as much as 630billion yen in convertible securities and bonds, including high-yield and euro notes. Reportedly, the firm is looking to sell-and-lease-back its Yokohama headquarters alongside several properties in the United States. Finally, the struggling car manufacturer is eyeing a sale of its stakes in Renault and battery maker AESC Group. The aggressive fundraising plans underscore Nissan's rapidly deteriorating financial and operational position, despite efforts by newly appointed chief executive Ivan Espinosa to turn the company around. Development on other Nissan models has been paused, whilst the company tries to balance its books. Work on all 'advanced and post-FY26 product activities' has been paused, though Nissan has not confirmed which particular vehicles will face suspension.
