Kentucky guard guarantees win against Tennessee basketball in Sweet 16
Tennessee and Kentucky will play for a third time during the 2024-25 basketball season.
The Vols advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 with a, 67-58, win against No. 7 seed UCLA in the second round. Kentucky advanced to the Sweet 16 after defeating No. 6 seed Illinois, 84-75.

Following the Wildcats' second-round win over Illinois, Kentucky graduate student guard Lamont Butler guaranteed a victory against Tennessee in the Sweet 16 matchup.
"We're just battle-tested throughout this whole conference," Butler said in a postgame press conference. "(The) conference was a beast. We had a lot of good teams that we played, but we stayed resilient, stayed together, and it showed today.
"Everybody was playing with love and passion for one another, and we can't focus about anything but the next game. We just have a lot of love, and we're going to win that game."
Tipoff between No. 2 seed Tennessee (29-7) and No. 3 seed Kentucky (25-11) is scheduled for 7:39 p.m. EDT on Friday (TBS/truTV). The game will be contested at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Jake Munroe hit two home runs and drove in five runs, leading Louisville to an 8-1 victory over Miami on Friday in the opening game of the Louisville Super Regional. Louisville took a 2-0 lead on two swings in the second inning — a first-pitch leadoff home run by Garret Pike followed by a solo home run by Munroe on a 2-0 count. Louisville starter Patrick Forbes (4-2) breezed through 5 1/3 innings, with the exception of the third inning when he faced a bases-loaded jam with one out. He gave up a sacrifice fly by Renzo Gonzalez, then got the third out on a strikeout. Louisville loaded the bases with one out in the third and scored two runs on a throwing error by the pitcher. The next batter, Munroe, followed with a three-run home run to left for a 7-1 lead. He picked up his fifth RBI with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Max Galvin had three hits for Miami. AJ Ciscar (6-2) allowed seven runs, six earned, in 2 1/3 innings. First pitch was delayed by a weather for about half an hour. There was another weather delay with two out in the bottom of the eighth. When play resumed, Zion Rose flied out to end the eighth then Miami went down 1-2-3 on 11 pitches in the ninth. This is the seventh super regional hosted by Louisville. The Cardinals have appeared in 10 super regionals overall. Miami is playing in the super regional round for the 13th time and the first since 2016. Tennessee baseball announces starting pitcher vs Arkansas in Fayetteville Super Regional Marcus Phillips is starting for Tennessee baseball in its opener against Arkansas in the Fayetteville Super Regional . Phillips (4-4, 3.71 ERA) will have a full week's rest entering the start for the Vols (46-17) against the Razorbacks (46-13) on June 6 (5 p.m. ET ESPN) in Game 1 of the super regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He made his most recent start on May 31 against Cincinnati. Phillips threw 98 pitches against Cincinnati, striking out eight and allowed three runs in 6⅔ innings. Phillips started Tennessee's opener during its regular-season series at Arkansas, which was UT's first win at Baum-Walker Stadium under coach Tony Vitello. He allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks in 4⅓ innings. He struck out three in the 10-7 win on May 15. Liam Doyle likely is lined up to start Game 2 against the Razorbacks on June 8 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN). Doyle (10-3, 2.84 ERA) has been Tennessee's Game 1 starter in all but two instances this season, but he pitched twice in the Knoxville Regional including in the June 2 final against Wake Forest. Former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley is considering a new profession. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former Vols coach is weighing his options on joining the upcoming U.S. Senate race in Georgia. Dooley, who would be joining the Republican Party, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he hasn't entered his name yet into the race against Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff, and will have a decision on whether he'll enter the Republican primary in the "coming weeks." "I believe our state needs a political outsider in Washington — not another career politician — to cut through the noise and partisanship and get back to real problem-solving." As noted by Saturday Down South, Dooley received a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1994. Dooley, 56, is also the son of legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley, who still holds the record as the Bulldogs' winningest coach with 201 victories. In his three seasons at Tennessee, Dooley led the Vols to a 15-21 overall record. His best season came during his first season on Rocky Top, as Tennessee went 6-7 overall and earned a berth to the Music City Bowl. Tennessee would lose its lone bowl game under Dooley, 30-27 to North Carolina in 2010. Following his tenure at Tennessee, Dooley spent four seasons in the NFL as the Dallas Cowboys' wide receiver coach before returning to the college ranks to be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri from 2018-19. His most recent coaching job came as a senior offensive analyst at Alabama for Nick Saban across the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
