SS United States scheduled to leave Philadelphia on Presidents Day after several delays
After delays and more delays, the SS United States is scheduled to leave Philadelphia on Monday, Feb. 17, after preparations being set in place on Friday, Valentine's Day.
In an update Thursday, Okaloosa County's Tourism Development Department in Florida said all the safety requirements for moving the ocean liner from South Philly to Mobile, Alabama, have been completed.
Officials are ready for SSUS to become the world's largest artificial reef.
Here are the plans to move the ship:
Friday, Feb. 14, 2025: Move from Pier 82 to 80 in Philadelphia. Crews will be in position and ready to make the shift at high tide at 2:47 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 17, 2025: SS United States will leave Pier 80 and begin the journey down the Delaware River at low tide at 11:18 a.m.
You can track the ship's journey via GPS. The tracking will start when "the vessel begins moving operations," according to the release.
There is a disclaimer that this is a tentative schedule, and dates, times and more could change.
The ship was recently delayed once again about a week ago. The SS United States was originally expected to depart South Philly in the fall of 2024, but plans were canceled due to a tropical storm and a possible bridge strike.
The journey is expected to take about two weeks.
The release said, "Upon arrival, the vessel will continue its rebirth into an artificial reef as contractors remove hazardous material, including nonmetal parts and fuel to ensure this deployment is clean and not harmful to the environment it aims to benefit."
For the ship to land upright underwater, the preparation process will take about a year after modifications are made.
"The exact location along the Gulf Coast for the vessel's deployment has not been set, but it is expected to be about 20 nautical miles south of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area," as said in the release.

'We [just] said, 'You're my partner,' because boyfriend [and girlfriend] did not seem sufficient.'Yet while lockdown in L.A. was where their relationship began to blossom, what the couple really wanted to do was break out and travel the world together. The Attire Unsure of what to wear for a beach wedding, Huff was searching for options while on a cruise from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires. She found Ibraina Atelier, a brand based in the Argentine capital. Huff reached out to its designer Fabio Toñanez, who was unavailable that month — except for the two days she and Michael happened to be in the meeting, Toñanez decided he wanted to create custom looks for Huff free of charge. 'He was like, 'Life isn't about money. This is all about meeting you today. I have to do this for you,'' Huff leaving the designing completely to Toñanez and Ibraina, the couple went months without hearing anything. Huff began to worry and went looking for other options — including a custom bridal bikini by La Chenille when swimming in the ocean on the wedding day. But a few days before the two left for Mooréa, a package arrived from Ibraina.'I tried them all on,' Huff says, 'and they fit to a T.' Michael, meanwhile, wore three custom suits from Sartoro by designer Andy Fine: a tan suit for the welcome dinner, a black suit for riding in on the jet ski and an off-white linen suit for the ceremony.'They're all tailored, down to each detail, with my name embroidered inside,' Michael the ceremony, he wore custom white linen pants from Sartoro and a custom sweater vest from Amiri. The Tattoos You won't find Michael or Huff sporting traditional wedding rings. The pair opted for another traditional Polynesian experience to seal their union — tataus. The traditional tattoos, created by Lolo Tattoo, are placed on a side of their bodies by their ribs.'We learned all about the Polynesian traditions of how tattooing began there, and how it's all about telling your story, and that resonated with me,' Huff says. 'It's also way more permanent.' Michael explains that inside their tataus are enatas — human symbols that represent themselves. 'In bed at night, she's always on my left side, I'm always on her right. So I wanted our tataus to be facing each other so [that] when we lay next to one another, they're touching.'

A new UK airline has almost halved the price of tickets for its first ever flight from Glasgow to New York. Global Airlines, the brainchild of self-made UK millionaire, James Asquith, raised eyebrows last month, when eye-watering ticket prices were announced. Back in April, Global Airlines sold an economy return ticket for £778 for their inaugural flight, departing Glasgow for JFK on May 15, returning May 19. Compared to the £399 British Airways were charging for the same dates, it was almost 95% more expensive. But two weeks later and Global are now offering promo codes that slash these prices by (almost) half.
