SS United States scheduled to leave Philadelphia on Presidents Day after several delays
After delays and more delays, the SS United States is scheduled to leave Philadelphia on Monday, Feb. 17, after preparations being set in place on Friday, Valentine's Day.
In an update Thursday, Okaloosa County's Tourism Development Department in Florida said all the safety requirements for moving the ocean liner from South Philly to Mobile, Alabama, have been completed.
Officials are ready for SSUS to become the world's largest artificial reef.
Here are the plans to move the ship:
Friday, Feb. 14, 2025: Move from Pier 82 to 80 in Philadelphia. Crews will be in position and ready to make the shift at high tide at 2:47 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 17, 2025: SS United States will leave Pier 80 and begin the journey down the Delaware River at low tide at 11:18 a.m.
You can track the ship's journey via GPS. The tracking will start when "the vessel begins moving operations," according to the release.
There is a disclaimer that this is a tentative schedule, and dates, times and more could change.
The ship was recently delayed once again about a week ago. The SS United States was originally expected to depart South Philly in the fall of 2024, but plans were canceled due to a tropical storm and a possible bridge strike.
The journey is expected to take about two weeks.
The release said, "Upon arrival, the vessel will continue its rebirth into an artificial reef as contractors remove hazardous material, including nonmetal parts and fuel to ensure this deployment is clean and not harmful to the environment it aims to benefit."
For the ship to land upright underwater, the preparation process will take about a year after modifications are made.
"The exact location along the Gulf Coast for the vessel's deployment has not been set, but it is expected to be about 20 nautical miles south of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area," as said in the release.

Two Actors Who Found Love in L.A Design a Wedding in Tahiti
In 2019, after finding each other on Instagram, actor Gregory Michael (Greek; How I Met Your Mother) asked actress M.C. Huff (KillHer; My Stretch of Texas Ground) to go on a Valentine's Day date. She declined. 'I was like, I'm not gonna go to dinner on Valentine's Day with this guy that I just met,' she says. 'So, [we] went out the next night.'February 15 marks the beginning of their relationship, one full of nontraditional romantic experiences. But after just about a year, COVID-19 hit and the lockdown began.'We moved in together during the pandemic, and that was, for a lot of couples I know, a make-or-break [moment],' Huff says, adding that the Los Angeles lockdown period was pivotal in cementing their relationship. 'We [just] said, 'You're my partner,' because boyfriend [and girlfriend] did not seem sufficient.'Yet while lockdown in L.A. was where their relationship began to blossom, what the couple really wanted to do was break out and travel the world together. The Venue 'This is the place,' Michael says as the couple describes the first time they visited Mooréa, an island 10 miles west of Tahiti. Their travels have included Brazil, Hawaii and the Bahamas, to name a few, but nothing is quite like Mooré 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike afforded the pair time to explore the island. Mesmerized while swimming with humpback whales in teal-colored waters and basking in the kindness of the Polynesian people, the couple knew they had found the perfect place for their the Niu Beach Hotel Mooréa, the lush surroundings welcomed Huff and Michael back, along with 70 of their closest friends and family members, for a week of day of the wedding, on Aug. 7, 2024, the groom made his way to the ceremony on a jet ski while the bride floated in on an outrigger boat decorated with freshly harvested plants. Guests watched as the couple stood at the water with a group of locals as the traditional Polynesian ceremony took place.'[For] the chief who did our wedding ceremony,' Huff recalls, 'it's all about the ocean and the mountains and the Earth, and they have a conch shell and they pour water over your hands together.' The Attire Unsure of what to wear for a beach wedding, Huff was searching for options while on a cruise from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires. She found Ibraina Atelier, a brand based in the Argentine capital. Huff reached out to its designer Fabio Toñanez, who was unavailable that month — except for the two days she and Michael happened to be in the meeting, Toñanez decided he wanted to create custom looks for Huff free of charge. 'He was like, 'Life isn't about money. This is all about meeting you today. I have to do this for you,'' Huff leaving the designing completely to Toñanez and Ibraina, the couple went months without hearing anything. Huff began to worry and went looking for other options — including a custom bridal bikini by La Chenille when swimming in the ocean on the wedding day. But a few days before the two left for Mooréa, a package arrived from Ibraina.'I tried them all on,' Huff says, 'and they fit to a T.' Michael, meanwhile, wore three custom suits from Sartoro by designer Andy Fine: a tan suit for the welcome dinner, a black suit for riding in on the jet ski and an off-white linen suit for the ceremony.'They're all tailored, down to each detail, with my name embroidered inside,' Michael the ceremony, he wore custom white linen pants from Sartoro and a custom sweater vest from Amiri. The Tattoos You won't find Michael or Huff sporting traditional wedding rings. The pair opted for another traditional Polynesian experience to seal their union — tataus. The traditional tattoos, created by Lolo Tattoo, are placed on a side of their bodies by their ribs.'We learned all about the Polynesian traditions of how tattooing began there, and how it's all about telling your story, and that resonated with me,' Huff says. 'It's also way more permanent.' Michael explains that inside their tataus are enatas — human symbols that represent themselves. 'In bed at night, she's always on my left side, I'm always on her right. So I wanted our tataus to be facing each other so [that] when we lay next to one another, they're touching.'

New UK airline slashes flights to New York by £100s — even cheaper than EasyJet
A new UK airline has almost halved the price of tickets for its first ever flight from Glasgow to New York. Global Airlines, the brainchild of self-made UK millionaire, James Asquith, raised eyebrows last month, when eye-watering ticket prices were announced. Back in April, Global Airlines sold an economy return ticket for £778 for their inaugural flight, departing Glasgow for JFK on May 15, returning May 19. Compared to the £399 British Airways were charging for the same dates, it was almost 95% more expensive. But two weeks later and Global are now offering promo codes that slash these prices by (almost) half. According to a post on their Instagram page, you can now bag a Global Traveller (economy) flight from Manchester or Glasgow return for just £380 by using the code GLOBAL380. Fuel your wanderlust with our curated newsletter of travel deals, guides and inspiration. Sign up here. It means the new Global prices are even cheaper than EasyJet. At the time of writing, the cheapest EasyJet return (operated by EasyJet and Norse) from Glasgow to JFK on the same dates costs £573.21. For those feeling a little more flush, the code GLOBAL1999 will get you business class return for £1,999. That's a huge saving from the £3,700 originally advertised in April. Commenters on Instagram post were thrilled by the news. 'I'm booked,' commented @globalairlines_fans, 'Can't wait.' While another added 'Looks amazing! Can't wait to experience it.' But Global Airlines' business model has caused controversy among the aviation industry, who are skeptical as to whether they can survive long-term. Read More Valentine's Day: Quirky bouquets to send to your loved one James, who is already CEO and founder of Airbnb rival, Holiday Swap, announced plans for his start-up airline back in 2022 — a dream he'd had since he was a child, growing up with pilot parents. He vowed that Global would 'bring back the golden age of air travel, with a modern flair.' He wanted to make flying glam again, with 12ft long 'suites' for first-class passengers, and even a 'Gamer class', complete with Xbox and Playstations. He hoped that by 2025, a fleet of 100 planes would fly from European hubs around the world. And while he hasn't quite achieved this goal, Global's maiden voyage is just one week away. Why aren't experts convinced by Global? The airline's business plan is based on using the Airbus A380, the largest commercial passenger aircraft. These massive, double-decker planes are no longer being made and there are now less than 200 in circulation, after being discontinued in 2021. While James says these planes are a passenger, pilot and crew 'favourite' they are costly to run, and require full planes to make them worthwhile. The novelty of such a big plane, may not be enough to get tickets sold. Aviation expert and professor of aviation management at Dublin City University, Marina Efthymiou, previously told Metro: 'The A380s can carry from around 500 to more than 800 people, depending on the configuration of seats. 'This is a huge amount of passengers, which even big airlines have problems filling. The average on a transatlantic flight route is about 250. 'Global could be flying with half-empty planes and there are already very thin profit margins when it comes to plane tickets. 'How long Global can survive, will depend on how rich James Asquith is, and how long he is able to afford operating at a loss.' Do you have a story to share? Tom Cruise Spotted On A 'Cinema Date' With Ben Affleck's Famous Ex-Girlfriend Amid Romance Rumors
Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas, who previously dated Ben Affleck, continue to fuel speculation of a blossoming romance after being spotted together during a casual cinema outing. The actors have been linked in recent months after being seen on a number of occasions together, including getting dinner on Valentine's Day. As of now, neither Tom Cruise nor Ana de Armas has confirmed whether they are romantically involved, though some reports suggest their recent outings may be related to a movie project they are working on. Cruise and de Armas' recent sighting has fueled the growing rumors that they are in a relationship. The duo was reportedly spotted by a fan at a cinema in Leicester Square, who seemed to have run into them during a film session for Ryan Coogler's "Sinners." "What a dayyyyy! Watched the best movie of the year (6 sinnersmovie - the hype is real, go watch it," the fan shared on social media. "Walked out of the toilet to come face to face with @tomcruise and Ana de Armas." Adding to his post, the fan shared a picture he took with the smiling "Mission: Impossible" star. Surprisingly, de Armas was not in the picture. Later on, Cruise himself confirmed his appearance at the cinema by sharing a snap of himself in front of the movie's poster. He also added a caption praising the cast and crew of the film. "Congratulations Ryan [Coogler], Michael [B. Jordan], and to the entire cast and crew. Must see in a cinema and stay through the end credits," the actor wrote in his post, which de Armas later liked. Cruise and de Armas have been spotted together in recent weeks, arriving in London via helicopter. For the previous sighting, the duo was reportedly returning from Madrid, Spain, although the reason they were there was undisclosed. De Armas donned a casual outfit and held on to her canines, Elvis and Salsa, while Cruise opted for semi-formal attire. Last month, they were also seen together twice at Battersea Heliport in London. On one of those occasions, they were joined by director Doug Liman, with whom they appear to be working on a project. Both actors also smiled and engaged heartily with the heliport staff as they made their way down the tarmac. Fans first started speculating that Cruise and de Armas were more than just friends when the duo were spotted grabbing dinner in Soho, London. The day in question was reportedly Valentine's Day, which, unsurprisingly, made many people think it wasn't just a friendly outing. At the restaurant, they were surrounded by several excited fans who were thrilled to see them. At one point, Cruise stopped for a selfie and interacted with fans as more people gathered around to catch a glimpse of him. Following the fan interaction, Cruise and de Armas left the scene with two bags of takeaway food and hopped into a taxi together to an undisclosed destination. Any continued sighting of the duo together will only further fuel romance rumors. Still, sources close to them had previously claimed that they are not romantically involved, contrary to what these sightings might suggest. "Everything with Tom and Ana is innocent. They are hanging out to talk about future movies that they could do together," a source told the Daily Mail at the time. "One of those ideas is the 'Days of Thunder' sequel that Tom wants to get off the ground. It is currently in its infancy." They added, "He's talking [to Paramount] about and It's going to be what comes together first in terms of a script. It depends on the idea and, ultimately, the script." "Days of Thunder" is a 1990 sports action drama featuring Cruise as young USAC racer Cole Trickle. It grossed $157 million worldwide against a production budget of $60 million but was panned for its lack of originality by critics. Like Cruise, who has had high-profile relationships with famous women, such as his ex-wives, Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman, De Armas has also been romantically linked to several notable public figures. In December, during an outing in Madrid, she was seen kissing Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez of Cuba. The actress previously dated her "Deep Water" co-star, Ben Affleck, after first being linked in early 2020 while filming the thriller in New Orleans. However, they ended their relationship in January 2021. "Ben is no longer dating Ana," a source told People Magazine at the time. "She broke it off. Their relationship was complicated. Ana doesn't want to be based in Los Angeles and Ben obviously has to since his kids live in Los Angeles."
