Sneh, Amanjot star as India win tri-series after beating Sri Lanka by 97 runs
Sneh Rana continued her sensational form by picking 4-38 while Amanjot Kaur grabbed 3-54 as India defeated Sri Lanka by 97 runs to win the women's ODI tri-series at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
After vice-captain Smriti Mandhana led a stellar batting effort to help India post a mammoth 342/7 in their 50 overs, Sneh stepped up to once again be India's standout bowler, as she picked up another four-wicket haul. On the other hand, Amanjot yet again impressed with a three-fer as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 245 in 48.2 overs and become runners-up of this tri-series.
A chase of 343 was always going to be an uphill task for Sri Lanka, and they were never really in it, despite their Chamari Athapaththu making 51. Now, on losing the tri-series final, Sri Lanka will be wondering what could have been had they bowled with more penetration or could have made the most of their fielding chances, especially of dropping Smriti on 21 off Inoka Ranaweera's bowling.
India had a perfect start to their defence of a mammoth total when Amanjot castled Hasini Perera on third ball of the second innings. Though Chamari shared a 68-run stand with Vishmi Gunaratne (36) for the second wicket, Amanjot broke it in the 14th over by bowling the latter around her legs.
With Chamari struggling for rhythm in the later part, she still managed to bring up her fifty, before being castled by Sneh. Despite Harshitha Samawickrama and Nilakshi de Silva sharing a 52-run stand, Amanjot and Sneh took them out respectively to ensure the game was firmly in India's favour, as they completed a resounding win in the final and justify the pre-tournament favourites tag.

However, following a lean Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2008, he was sent back to participate in domestic cricket to focus on improving his skills. Chawla rejoined the team out of the blue when he was selected for the T20 World Cup in 2010 and subsequently made the team for the 2011 World Cup. Chawla played 35 matches for India across all formats and grabbed 43 wickets at an average of 35.76 and an economy of 4.75. England seamer Mark Wood could potentially return for fourth test against India after recovering from injury
New Delhi [India] June 6 (ANI): England seamer Mark Wood could 'potentially' return in Test four or five against India as he continues his recovery from a knee injury he suffered back in March, according to Sky Sports. His injury occurred during England's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage defeat to Afghanistan in Lahore after he 'suffered increased stiffness and discomfort.' Luke Wright, England's national selector, said Mark Wood has started bowling lightly. 'I think Woody's now started bowling just lightly, to be honest. He's just off a few paces, but that's been a great sign,' Wright added. 'So, he's on the road to recovery. I think he's more long-term, if we can get him back, he might have an option for the fourth or fifth Test. But again, each day it's ticking off each box and making sure he's OK.' 'But he's trucking on well and same with Stoney. So, we are starting to get boys back, but they're still further away than right now. But it would be nice having those options back as well,' he added. Jofra Archer also has been out with a thumb injury but is targeting a return for England's second Test against India, according to a report from Sky Sports. Rob Walter hired as New Zealand's cricket head coach after leaving South Africa job
Rob Walter has been hired to coach the New Zealand men's cricket team in all three formats as a replacement for Gary Stead. Walter coached South Africa's teams in the one-day and Twenty20 formats from January 2023 until April this year. Before then he coached New Zealand's Otago province for five years and at the Central Districts association. He guided South Africa to the semifinals of the 2023 World Cup and the Champions Trophy earlier this year in the ODI format and to the final of the T20 World Cup last year. Stead was New Zealand head coach in all three formats from 2018 until earlier this week, when New Zealand Cricket announced it was seeking a replacement. Stead announced in March he was stepping down from his roles in the limited-overs formats but intended to remain as test coach. New Zealand Cricket said it preferred a coach to lead the Black Caps in all three formats. 'It's an amazing opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and support staff through a period of time in which so many global events, as well as massive bilateral series will be contested,' Walter said. 'I just can't wait to get started. It's exciting, it's challenging and the opportunity is enormous.' The 49-year-old Walter was high on New Zealand Cricket's list of preferred candidates from the moment it decided to pursue another all-formats coach, ruling out Stead who guided the Black Caps to the inaugural World Test Championship. 'Rob is a world-class coach with an outstanding pedigree,' NZC chief executive Scott Weenink said. 'His success in New Zealand's domestic game combined with his recent achievements on the global stage with South Africa makes him the ideal candidate to lead the Black Caps.' He'll take over in time for New Zealand's tour to Zimbabwe, which starts with a T20 tri-series against the hosts and South Africa before a two-Test series against Zimbabwe.
