CyberLink Releases FaceMe® Security 8.0, Enhancing Smart Security Experiences and Accelerating Large-Scale Project Deployment
CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW), a pioneer in AI and facial recognition technologies, today announced the latest release of FaceMe Security. A turnkey security and access control solution, FaceMe Security enables identity verification, attendance management, and access control through AI facial recognition, with real-time monitoring and alerts. FaceMe Security is integrated with major VMS providers, enabling them to find people faster with facial recognition powered search investigations.
Enhanced Out-Of-The-Box Experience
FaceMe Security can be used as a standalone software, but it thrives when accompanying an existing video surveillance system. Existing users of Genetec Security Center, Milestone XProtect, Network Optix Nx Witness, and Hanwha Vision Wisenet WAVE can add FaceMe Security to their VMS and gain the benefits of facial recognition real-time notification and access control, all from their current VMS user interface. New updates in version 8.0 improve the setup process with these VMS partners, including step-by-step snapshots to ensure smooth installation and faster PoC process.
New Auto-Detection of IP Cameras and FaceMe Security Central
FaceMe Security 8.0 can automatically detect IP cameras under the same network segment. Auto-detection of the IP cameras reduces technical barriers and simplifies system operation to enhance usability of FaceMe Security. Instead of inputting camera IP addresses one by one, users now can specify a range of IP addresses and do a scan for the IP cameras. For larger projects, auto-detection of the IP cameras accelerates the speed of deployment and provides greater efficiency.
Not only is there now auto-detection of IP cameras, but version 8.0 can also auto-detect the FaceMe Security Central in the same LAN during setup. This improves productivity for users when they must make updates or changes to system settings, and don't have the IP address on hand.
New Feature: Trigger DIDO by HTTP API
Already supporting access control through integration with automatic door switch DIDO I/O modules and Wiegand protocol, FaceMe Security 8.0 now also incorporates support for devices with HTTP APIs. Since many IP cameras have built-in DIDO modules that can be triggered by API for door access control, version 8.0 allows customers to eliminate the need for a separate DIDO device, helping to reduce costs. Through Axis VAPIX Application API, Axis cameras with DIDO modules can now be triggered by FaceMe Security to open doors for employees in Axis Camera Station. When FaceMe Security detects a person of interest, it can also better alert security staff through DIDO triggers by HTTP API. For example, PATLITE signal tower lights will flash red when a blocklisted person is detected, alerting security staff to something they could have easily missed.
Additional 8.0 Updates
Version 8.0 provides these additional updates to improve the experience for customers and users alike.
'Accurate facial recognition is important, but just as important are a smooth installation and positive user experience,' said Mei Guu, President of CyberLink Business Unit 2. 'Enabling our customers to easily locate the IP cameras and smoothly enhance their VMS with facial recognition ensures that they can start reaping the benefits of FaceMe Security immediately.'

Maine won't require medical cannabis to be tested for contaminants -- this year
Jun. 11—Maine's medical cannabis providers have once again fought off a controversial requirement to start testing their products — at least for now. A legislative committee killed one bill and carried over another that would have instituted testing and tracking requirements that industry members have said for years would put them out of business or force price increases. While Maine's recreational cannabis market requires testing for contaminants and potency and includes potency limits, the medical market requires neither. Maine is the only state that doesn't mandate medical cannabis to be tested. LD 104, proposed by the state's Office of Cannabis Policy and sponsored by Rep. Marc Malon, D-Biddeford, would have required seed-to-sale plant tracking and standardized chemical, mold and heavy metal testing between recreational and medical cannabis. LD 1847, sponsored by Rep. Anne Graham, D-North Yarmouth, sought to do the same while also adding potency caps on edibles. The latter will be taken up again next year. "I have listened and I've read testimony and I've worked with public health advocates to make sure that the medical cannabis industry survives, thrives and (can) be regulated so that when patients buy cannabis, they know that they have a safe product and they know what the potency is," Graham said. " ... Clearly our regulations and how we look at (testing), it needs work, a lot of work." But it's also "hugely complicated," she said, and needs more time. Jennifer Belcher, president of the Maine Cannabis Union, said there's a "sense of relief now that we know that nothing is going through this year. If either bill passed as written, she said "the medical program would be done." Belcher was encouraged by how receptive the committee was to the industry's concerns, and while "it is nerve-racking that we are going to face this next session," there's also an exciting opportunity for collaboration. "(LD) 1847 gives us an opportunity to focus on the facts, the research, the science," she said. AN ONGOING FIGHT John Hudak, director of the office, has been clear that implementing a testing program is a top priority, but this session was the first time since he was appointed to the office in late 2022 that an official proposal has been before the committee. Following a 2022 law, any major substantive rule-making from the department must be approved by the Legislature. "If a business model is one in which producing clean cannabis is too costly, there's something wrong with the business model," he said previously. "We're not going to focus on profits at the expense of patients' health." Supporters of the bill have referenced a 2023 report by the Office of Cannabis Policy that found about 45% of the cannabis in Maine's medical market would fail the standards set for the recreational market. They also pointed to the influx of suspected illegal growers allegedly tied to Chinese organized crime who have been selling bulk cannabis at "rock bottom" prices to legal dispensaries. However, in a public hearing last month, dozens of medical cannabis caregivers and consumers testified in opposition to the bills and the committee received roughly 1,000 pieces of written testimony. They criticized the state's testing program, citing several recalls in the recreational program last year that have brought the science behind the tests and the state's standards into question. The recent recalls, they argue, prove the testing doesn't work and shouldn't be forced on the medical program. The fight is just the latest in a series of uphill battles for Maine's medical cannabis providers. Oversaturation, competition with recreational cannabis and high costs have caused revenue to plummet and people to leave the industry in droves. Unlike many other states, Maine's medical cannabis market has always outperformed its recreational counterpart. But the gap between the two is narrowing, and last year the medical market brought in about $280 million (down from $371 in 2021), while the recreational market brought in $217 million. The number of providers, known in the industry as caregivers, has been cleaved in half from its 2016 peak of 3,257 to 1,627 in May, according to state data. "We are literally fighting for our lives at this point," Belcher said. OTHER BILLS The committee carried over several other bills, including one that would require the director of the Office of Cannabis Policy be confirmed by the Legislature rather than appointed by the commissioner of the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, which oversees the office. Sen. Craig Hickman, D-Winthrop, who drafted the bill, said the committee needed time to investigate whether there are other directors, like the heads of the state's alcohol and gambling control agencies, that should also be subject to legislative approval. Lawmakers also carried over a proposal to allow cannabis "social clubs" or public consumption, based off recommendations in a task force report this winter. Earlier this session, the committee killed two bills that would have implemented revenue sharing across Maine's cannabis industry, meaning towns and cities that allow recreational businesses could receive a portion of the tax revenue they generate. Legislators hoped the bills would encourage more towns and cities to allow cannabis shops and help them recoup the costs of overseeing the recreational program. How insurance companies are leveraging AI in 'critical ways'
AXIS Capital (AXS) CEO and president, Vince Tizzio, joins Market Domination Overtime with Josh Lipton and Julie Hyman to discuss what demand looks like for different types of insurance policies, his outlook for the insurance sector, and how artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to drive growth. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Market Domination Overtime here. Where are you seeing the most demand in terms of categories, you know, what are being seen as the biggest risks that people need to ensure against? Yeah, broadly, we're we're seeing demand in the first quarter. We've reported some 24% improvement in submissions. That was broad-based, but more specifically, our our energy business, our cyber business, our professional lines businesses, they're all thriving and fairly robust in the dimension of demand. Talk more about cyber's interesting, Vince. Talk about that product and and just the trends there you're seeing, the book of business, what's it look like? Yeah. So this is a business that Axis maintains a a strong market share, but the phenomenon that I would describe in in the cyber customer space. First, the sizing of it's about $12 to $15 billion. It's a global product that's sought by all sizes of companies. But what we're seeing is the proliferation of loss activity under ransomware matters. Uh, we're seeing continued privacy privacy matter losses that are arising, and we're seeing very specific approaches by underwriters in attracting the kind of customers that they wish to retain and uh, seek. And are you seeing more of those policies be triggered because of increased cyber attacks? You're certainly seeing frequency uh, on the rise from a variety of sources of claims and it's affecting different sized companies in different orders of magnitude, but generally, frequency is up. Now Vince, one big trend we talk a lot about in the show, and and it excites investors a lot is the mega trend of AI. I'm curious how how you're trying to leverage that technology and what you see more broadly in the industry as well. Yeah, in in critical ways. So first, we're looking at the use of AI inside our organization. How do we make it more efficient, more effective and help our underwriters ultimately in risk selection? Secondly, our intermediaries. Today, we we transact business in very traditional ways, starting from how we convey paper to one another, right, electronically. Third, we're looking at it from the customer lens and we're looking at it in the development of further customized solutions. How can we leverage all of the analytics that we have to bring more specific intel solutions? And then finally, ultimately, the culmination of this should translate to continued stability and resilience in our profit and loss statements. Uh, when you look at the big risks that are facing companies right now, certainly tariffs would be on the list, at least for some of them. Is that something that companies are are taking out policies to to ensure against? Well, the impact of tariffs is felt through the provision of of many of our products. We we've spoken about uh, the impact to access as being one. We look at loss cost trends and the impact of tariffs on how we're pricing our products. Secondly, a sustained impact of trade relations would ultimately impact growth in certain of the lines of business that we compete in. And so we have an observant eye, it's a fairly uncertain uh, outcome as you know, as of now, but we will continue to meet the needs of our customers. Sign in to access your portfolio
