Braden Becker takes out the 51st annual Spalding Park Open in stunning fashion
PGA pro Braden Becker claimed the Spalding Park Open jacket on Sunday after a stellar weekend of golf at Spalding Park Golf Club.
Going into the final round on Sunday, Becker trailed Andrew Crabb by four strokes as he began his chase of the jacket and the $50,000 Spalding Park Open title.
Becker, 32, was one of only two golfers on the course during the final day of competition to break 70, leading him to victory by one stroke over Tim Hart, finishing at 12-under.
Spalding Park Golf Club's head golf professional Byron Clarkson said it was special to see Becker take out the Open after multiple attempts at claiming the jacket.
'It was great to see Braden Becker finally get the win after supporting the event for the past 10 years,' Clarkson said.
'With a couple of runner-up finishes in the past it was nice to see him win.'
Clarkson said it was a great event and was well received by all who were involved in the three-day tournament as well as seeing the the Wally Sudilowski Memorial also claimed.
'The feedback from all players has been amazing with numerous players stating we have the best greens in Australia, which is a great accolade for our voluntary head greenkeeper Chris Clarkson,' he said.
'Mitchell and Brown have now been sponsoring this event for 17 years and we have already started planning for next year's event and are going to make it bigger than this year's event.
'It was also great to see Trent Purcell take out the very prestigious Wally Sudilowski Memorial closed section event.'
The competition had 60 pros, 15 amateurs and 45 local members tee off in the 51st Spalding Park Open Pro-Am Series in what was a great weekend for golf in the Mid West.
