Pinpoint Weather: Rainy, cooler first half of the week
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Damp and unseasonably cool conditions are anticipated across Southwest and Central Virginia for the next few days.
Scattered light rain showers will pass through on Monday morning. Otherwise, Memorial Day will be mostly cloudy and cool. Highs will be in the upper 50s and 60s, about ten to fifteen degrees below average for this time of year.
A cool-air wedge will keep Southwest and Central Virginia cloudy and unseasonably cool on Tuesday. Highs will be in the 50s and lower 60s. Warm, moist air aloft will result in periods of rain for the day.
The wedge will start to break down Tuesday night into Wednesday. However, scattered showers will linger into Wednesday with some rumbles of thunder possible. Afternoon temperatures will range from the mid-60s to the lower 70s under mostly cloudy skies.
One to two inches of rainfall are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Localized flooding is a concern, especially in poor drainage areas. Stay weather-aware and alert when traveling.
A cold front will pass through the region on Thursday. Showers are possible along the front, although rain coverage won't be as widespread. Showers and storms may pass through on Friday, too. Near-average temperatures will return for the second half of the week. Highs will be in the 70s.
