Isle of Man road to close for tree felling and survey works
A major route connecting the south of the Isle of Man with the capital is set to close for tree felling and wind turbine transportation survey works. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (Defa) will close the A5 New Castletown Road in Santon from Fairy Bridge to Blackboards Corner from 09:30 to 15:30 from Monday to Wednesday. A single lane closure with temporary traffic lights will then continue from 09:30 to 16:30 on Thursday and Friday.Manx Utilities said its contractors Wardell Armstrong would use the opportunity of the tree felling closure to undertake assessments on transporting wind turbine blades from Douglas Port to the south of the island.
It would include visual surveys in bat activity and woodland to understand the extent of pruning that may be required of trees, the authority said. The project would see the installation of up to four turbines in Earystane Plantation, which would generate a quarter of the Island's annual electricity needs.

Post-Brexit pet travel scheme comes into effect
A new scheme aimed at simplifying post-Brexit pet travel between Great Britain and Northern Ireland has come into Brexit, Northern Ireland remained part of the EU's animal health zone while Great Britain was has meant pets being taken from Great Britain to Northern Ireland have required rabies vaccinations and a new travel certificate for each new Pet Travel Document (PTD) will be valid for the pet's lifetime and the requirement for rabies vaccination has been dropped. What does the Pet Travel Document mean? A spokesperson for the UK's Department of Environment said pet owners and assistance dog users who are travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland "can now apply for a free pet travel document that's quick and easy to get online, and will last the pet's lifetime"."This is in stark contrast to the old system, which required pet owners to obtain expensive health treatments and cumbersome journey certificates from a vet every time they travelled," they main conditions of the PTD scheme are that the pet must be microchipped and the owner must sign a form saying the animal will not be brought into the Republic of scheme covers dogs, cats and ferrets. There are separate arrangements for other arrangements only apply to pet owners living in Great Ireland residents returning home from Great Britain do not require the travel document but their pet must be PTD is part of the Windsor Framework, Northern Ireland's revised Brexit deal, which amended the original NI Protocol agreement. 'Imposes a pet passport scheme' The scheme has been criticised by the Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) MP Jim Allister who said its impact has been overstated as the original requirements were not being fully in a House of Commons debate last year, he said: "I take issue with the minister saying that this is an improvement. "The original propositions of the protocol were never implemented."The grace periods remain the current position, which is that no pet passports, no documentation and no requirement to be part of a pet scheme is needed to bring your pet from Great Britain to the other part of the United Kingdom."What these regulations do is impose a pet passport scheme."Guide Dogs NI said it was pleased with the progress and clarity surrounding pet advised those travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland with a guide dog should plan in advance, as the process to issue one takes up to five working Search and Rescue Dog Association Ireland North (SARDA IN) expressed strong support for the said the policy simplifies travel for its highly-trained search and rescue UK and EU are working on an agrifood deal that will reduce the impact of the "Irish Sea border', but it is understood that it will not remove the need for the PTD.

Meet the Macclesfield grandad sharing his love of the outdoors online
Here in the North West we are fortunate to have incredible countryside, bustling cities, award-winning beaches and not forgetting incredibly friendly year I wanted to reflect on the pride we have of our wonderful region and the people that make it such a fantastic place to I came up with BBC North West Tonight's 25 in 25, a series showcasing some of the best people and places in the north-west of week I met up with Roger Hordley - an 81-year-old walking, photo-taking grandad whose photographs have earned him a following online. Roger's daughter Daniele emailed me about her dad, who enjoys nothing more than walking in and around Macclesfield Forest.I live in Marple. Macclesfield is, as we always say, "down the road" and yet somewhere I am ashamed to say I have never really a morning spent admiring the views I know it is a place I will be returning to - especially with my girls who would love the chance to build a den in the forest, like the one me and Roger stumbled not everyone has that opportunity and that's one of the reasons why Roger takes photos for his blog. "I take maybe 30 - 50 photos during a walk, I'll whittle them down to 15 or 20, put them into a montage and share them."The family can see them and, apparently, I have followers who like them."At the age of 81, some might think it's a time to sit back and relax but not Roger."Why do I walk? To keep fit? No. To keep the joints moving. I'm 81 and it keeps my limbs loose."Walking like this is for my knees, the future me is happy." Roger has walked five miles a day, at least five times a week for the past 10 years, so what motivates him?"Look at it. It's absolutely glorious."The walks are good, the exercise is good. It's just lovely. Who would not want to walk in a place like this?"Throughout our walk, Roger uses an app on his phone which tells him the name of the flower or bug he has stumbled across cotton grass, which looked like cotton wool balls on top of in the cotton a bug hid, Roger's app established it was a slow bug."I see something new every time I come on this walk, no two walks are the same." His advice to those that perhaps haven't got the motivation he shares?"The only thing I would say is don't think of the walking, think about what you're seeing."I wouldn't rather be sat inside watching the telly, I'd rather be here, watching this view."
