Days after the launch of Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's Axiom-4 mission was postponed, Nasa and Axiom Space are reviewing launch opportunities.The Axe-4 mission is currently scheduled to launch on June 19; however, a launch time has yet to be released."It is not uncommon for the agency and its international partners to adjust launches around changes in operations aboard the space station. The launch of the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission, initially set for May 29, 2025, faced multiple postponements due to a series of technical and environmental issues. It was first delayed to June 8 after observations related to the Crew Dragon's electrical harness.A further slip to June 9 occurred due to Falcon 9 vehicle readiness delays. Unfavourable weather in the ascent corridor pushed the date to June 10.During pre-launch tests on June 8, an oxygen leak and an engine actuator anomaly were discovered; the actuator and its controller were replaced, and the launch was rescheduled for June 11. On June 10, a joint technical review led ISRO to recommend in-situ repairs and a low-temperature leak test to ensure integrity.

advertisementThen, on June 11, NASA reported a new pressure signature indicating a potential leak in the Russian Zvezda module aboard the ISS. Coordination with Roscosmos is underway, prompting further delay of Ax-4."The leaks, located in the aft (back) most segment of the International Space Station's Zvezda service module, have been monitored by flight controllers for the past few years. Following the most recent repair, pressure in the transfer tunnel has been stable. Previously, pressure in this area would have dropped. This could indicate that the small leaks have been sealed. Teams are also considering the stable pressure could be the result of a small amount of air flowing into the transfer tunnel across the hatch seal from the main part of the space station," Nasa said.The mission would mark India's return to human spaceflight after 41 years as Nasa, Axiom Space, and Isro prioritise crew safety and technical validation.Tune InTrending Reel

Samsung R&D Institute, Noida (SRI-N) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras with a focus on pioneering advancements in AI for Indian languages, HealthTech and emerging areas such as Generative AI. The partnership is aimed at driving collaborative research, accelerate technology development, and nurture future-ready talent. The five-year MoU was signed by Kyungyun Roo, Managing Director, SRI-N and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, a press statement informed. Highlighting about this partnership, SRI-N Managing Director Kyungyun Roo said that the collaboration with IIT Madras marks an important step towards co-creating solutions that are meaningful, inclusive, and future-ready. 'Together, we aim to enhance the Galaxy AI ecosystem with deeper integration of Indian regional languages and contribute to breaking language barriers across the country. India's vehicle ownership to hit 500 million by 2050, led by two-wheelers and passenger cars

A latest study finds that the Indian vehicle ownership is on the path to rise to 500 million by 2050. (Sunil Ghosh / Hindustan Times) Check Offers India's vehicle ownership is projected to more than double by 2050, rising from 22.6 crore in 2023 to nearly 50 crore, according to new studies released by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The research highlights two-wheelers and private cars as the major drivers of this growth, with wide-ranging implications for fuel demand, infrastructure needs, and urban mobility challenges. Two-wheelers to dominate growth By 2050, two-wheelers are expected to account for nearly 70% of India's total vehicle stock, over 35 crore vehicles, under a business-as-usual scenario based on projected GDP and population growth. Private car ownership is also set to rise significantly, nearly tripling to reach around 9 crore units. This surge in vehicle numbers will place additional pressure on cities already struggling with congestion, emissions, and inadequate infrastructure. Growth concentrated in northern and western states Most of the vehicle stock growth will be concentrated in states like Uttar Pradesh, which alone could have more than 9 crore vehicles by mid-century. Other states likely to see significant growth include Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. In contrast, southern states may experience a slowdown in vehicle growth due to declining population growth rates. Urban and peri-urban centres, such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Thane, and Ahmedabad, will remain major vehicle hubs, collectively accounting for about 10% of the projected total vehicle stock. EV two-wheelers are cost-competitive The studies find that electric two- and three-wheelers already offer lower running costs compared to their petrol counterparts. The total cost of ownership (TCO) for an electric two-wheeler is ₹ 1.48/km, compared to ₹ 2.46/km for a petrol model. For electric three-wheelers, the cost is ₹ 1.28/km versus ₹ 3.21/km for petrol. Electric vehicles in the taxi and private car segments are also becoming competitive, though cost advantages vary depending on state-level EV incentives, upfront costs, and charging tariffs. In states with supportive EV policies, electric cars can offer savings, but the economics remain inconsistent across the country. Commercial transport still dependent on fossil fuels In contrast to smaller vehicles, electric trucks and buses remain significantly more expensive than diesel, CNG, or LNG models. LNG is expected to remain the cheapest option for medium and heavy vehicles until at least 2040. Without major improvements in electric vehicle affordability and charging infrastructure, diesel use in commercial transport is projected to continue into the 2040s. The study estimates that under a business-as-usual scenario, diesel demand would only peak by 2047, while petrol demand could plateau earlier, around 2032. After defending the deceased pilots of the Air India aircraft that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, Gaurav Taneja has shared another video on YouTube, offering his two cents on why he believes the flight crashed within seconds of taking off. In the clip, Gaurav referred to new data released by FlightRadar, an app that allows users to track air traffic in real time. The YouTuber, who served as a commercial pilot for over a decade and was formerly a captain at AirAsia, explained that the new data shows the Air India flight took significantly more time to take off compared to the usual duration. Gaurav Taneja presented the takeoff footage and highlighted that dust was seen lifting from the runway, indicating that the aircraft may have been on an unpaved surface. He also pointed out that the plane took off from the very end of the runway, which he implied was unusual. He said, 'The flight took a lot of distance on the runway. And after takeoff, the speed is washing away. There was something wrong with the aircraft. Was there a problem with the loading of the aircraft? Because before, crashes have happened.' Gaurav cited the example of a crash in Aurangabad in 1993, which occurred due to overloading. Gaurav continued, 'The aircraft is overloaded because airlines earn maximum money from cargo, and they report less cargo on paper but actually they overload the aircraft. Was that the reason behind the crash?' He also mentioned a flight from Tel Aviv that met with an accident due to an error in recording cargo weight. He concluded the video by saying, 'More details are awaited, we will update you soon.' On Monday, Gaurav Taneja had also dismissed the theory blaming the crash on pilot error. He said, 'It's very easy to blame the pilots when they are not there to defend themselves. Boeing and Air India both are big companies so leave them and let's blame the pilot. Also, it gets easy to claim insurance if you blame it on the pilot. That is one more reason for big companies to not take it on themselves. Americans think Indian pilots aren't very competent but that's not the case.'
