Saline County authorities investigating after 15-year-old girl killed in dog attack
SALINE COUNTY, Ark. – The Saline County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 15-year-old girl was reportedly killed in a dog attack on Wednesday.
SCSO officials said they received a 911 call at around 12:15 p.m. that someone had been attacked by dogs.

When they arrived, deputies said they learned that a 15-year-old girl had been attacked and killed by multiple dogs located within a fenced-in area of a private property. Police added that around 30 dogs were being housed there as part of a rescue.
Authorities said the girl had been helping care for the animals and helping to find them permanent homes.
SCSO officials said the reason for the attack is unknown.

Officials said the animals associated with the attack have been seized by the SCSO with the assistance of Benton animal control.

Somali community members gather around Twin Cities to find ways to save youth from violence
In the span of two weeks, the Twin Cities saw gunfire at two high school graduation ceremonies and a north metro mall. Police say a common thread ties all three cases together: young people in the Somali community. Community members held meetings across the metro in response to a wave of violence that has left the Somali community shaken and ready for solutions. The main question on everyone's mind: How do we save the youth from this violence? Thursday evening, a 15-year-old was arrested in connection with the shooting last week outside the Northtown Mall in Blaine that left a 15-year-old boy dead. A 20-year-old man is charged with aiding an offender to avoid arrest. This disturbing pattern is forcing community conversations in mosques, schools and homes. "We don't want these things to continue – it has to stop," said Ibrahim Mohamed, Community Resource Center Executive Director. Dr. Salma Hussein believes change begins with mentorship in a time when violence is rising and resources are missing. "[We have to] teach young men that self-defense can look like and should look like asking for help, can and should look like sitting done for mediation," she said. This mobilization isn't new to the community. In 2023, it was fireworks that caused fear on the University of Minnesota campus. The presence of Somali leaders like Hassanen Mohamed made an impact. Hassanen runs Minnesota Somali Community Center, a nonprofit that provides mentorship and support to Somali youth. He answered the call when chaos erupted once before and is ready to step in and save lives now. "Some of the youth, we knew who their parents are, and we called them," Mohamed said. "What worked in Dinkytown can work in Burnsville or large gatherings." Mohamed believes the solution isn't more policing but rather safe spaces and community leaders engaging with young people. "Can you imagine if we had youth centers that they can come and hang out, learn about values and be connected to mentors," he said. "If you need help, please connect with faith leaders." Police have pointed to gang affiliations in the shooting outside the Burnsville High School graduation, but community members don't think the violence is organized. Truck driver who searched how to smuggle drugs caught outside Las Vegas with 200 lbs. of cocaine, heroin: police
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A truck driver who searched the internet about how to smuggle drugs across the border faces charges after police arrested him outside Las Vegas with more than 200 pounds of cocaine and heroin, documents said. On May 9, police patrolling Interstate 15 south of Las Vegas arrested Mark Delarge, 49, of Alberta, Canada, following a traffic stop. A detective first stopped Delarge, who was driving a semitruck in Jean, for traveling an estimated 75 mph in a 55-mile-per-hour work zone, police said. The detective noticed Delarge, who said he was returning to Canada from California, was nervous 'because his hands were shaking,' documents said. The detective called for a narcotics detector dog to search the truck, police said. The dog alerted police to 'odors of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.' Delarge then admitted there was cocaine in the vehicle,' documents said. 'Mark said that as he was traveling from Canada to Los Angeles, he had conducted an internet search for 'how to smuggle drugs across the border,'' police said. 'Mark began to go to different website[s] and eventually contact an individual on Facebook… who then agreed to have Mark pick up cocaine in the Riverside area and transport it back to Canada.' Inside the truck, police located several boxes of cocaine and heroin weighing a combined 201 pounds, documents said. A Clark County grand jury later voted to indict Delarge on four drug-trafficking-related charges, records said. During a grand jury return hearing, Clark County District Court Chief Judge Jerry Wiese set bail at $250,000. Delarge has remained in custody since his initial arrest. Teen killed in multi-vehicle crash in south St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – A teen was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in south St. Louis on Thursday. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD), officials were alerted to the crash just before 10:40 a.m. on westbound I-44 near Arsenal Street. Investigators reported that before the crash, a Toyota Avalon was driving westbound at high speeds. Police say the driver of the Toyota, who was later identified as an 18-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle. The car ended up rotating as it was changing lanes, ultimately T-boning a Ford F250. SLMPD reported that the driver's side of the Toyota was stuck under the rear of the Ford F250. And when arriving at the crash, officials said the 18-year-old was declared deceased at the scene.
