Shweta, also known as Shweta Khatun, Mahasina Begum, or Fultusi Begum, was arrested by Howrah Police on Wednesday night from Alipore. Earlier, her 22-year-old son Aryan Khan was arrested. Her minor daughter was also detained. The arrests led to celebrations in Bankra, where locals played music and distributed sweets. On Thursday afternoon, during Shweta's appearance at the Howrah court, a group of women Trinamool workers from Bankra slapped and hit her with shoes despite police presence.
The Trinamool workers labelled her a criminal and a blackmailer.
During preliminary police questioning on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Shweta alleged, "Aryan met the victim on social media, and she came to our Bankra flat pretending to be unmarried. She wanted to marry Aryan and was willing to convert to Islam for it. Later, when we visited her home, her mother revealed she was married and had a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.I don't know how she got injured.
She might have been involved elsewhere.
My children and I did nothing wrong."
Howrah DCP (South) Surendra Singh said, "It seems Phultusi and Aryan are lying. Aryan is in police custody.Once Shweta is too, they will be interrogated together."
Their Bankura flat will also be searched, and they will be questioned with CCTV footage. Everything they say is subject to cross-verification."
In Bankra, panchayat pradhan Akhtar Hossain Molla said, "Shweta and Aryan's misdeeds were tarnishing the area's reputation. They were involved in many antisocial activities, misleading people with photos with our party (Trinamool) leaders on social media, intimidating locals, and even threatening police. They extorted money through blackmail."
