Here's how to celebrate Latin Restaurant Week in NYC this month
In 2016, Warren Luckett launched the first-ever Black Restaurant Week to showcase he diversity of Black food across the country. After meeting Karinn Chavarria, the two decided to expand on the concept, this time giving Latin chefs, bar talents and industry folks their dues. Together, they founded Latin Restaurant Week, a two-week-long celebration that highlights the culinary contributions of the Latin community.
Since getting its start in Houston in 2019, the movement has expanded to cities nationwide, including Washington DC, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and Atlanta, landing in New York in 2022. Now returning for a third year, the initiative is coming back this June, continuing to promote Hispanic and Latin cuisine across the diaspora.
Kicking off last month in Washington DC, Latin Restaurant Week is coming back to New York City from June 6 to June 20. For over two weeks, 15 bars and restaurants across New York City and New Jersey will be participating in the festivities, offering delectable specials from prix fixe menus to discounted deals. In conjunction with Feed the Soul Foundation, the initiative aims to amplify visibility and support one of the largest and most influential ethnic groups in the region. In face of rising food costs and shrinking margins, the events hope to act as a source of support in the face of stagnant margins, providing a boost in stability for Latino and Hispanic culinary business owners.
Looking to eat in Brooklyn? Dine on Dominican and Mexican fusion eats from Bed-Stuy's Rinconcito Domex or spoon up Guatemalan stews such as caldo and pepian from Prospect Lefferts Garden's Ix Restaurant. Head to Ridgewood for Cubanos and ropa vieja from Benny's Cuban Cafe or cruise over to Jackson Heights for tamales from the Peruvian food cart, Antojitos Doña Fela. As for gorditas, churros and other Michelin Bib Gourmand designated eats, you can head to The Bronx for La Cueva Fonda. Live in New Jersey? Cocktail bar and bistro Belo Bar & Grill will be doling out goodies for the celebration.

Artists reside and work here, essentially living and breathing art on a daily basis. These painterly personalities will give you an in-depth look into what it's like to be a professional creator. If you're unfamiliar with the area, Bronzeville is a celebrated nucleus for Black history and culture, and the Bronzeville Art District has supported artists through distinct galleries that spotlight the works of the African diaspora and beyond. Seeing art here is truly a memorable experience. The best part: tickets to ride the bus are not required and the event is offered free of charge! Just be sure you register in advance. The hop-on-hop-off bus will open its doors beginning at 5:45pm; expect a line and show up early to get a good seat!

Screaming woman removed from Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial after explicit outburst
A woman was removed from the courtroom during Sean 'Diddy' Combs' court trial this morning, after screaming and disrupting the proceedings. The 55-year-old is facing charges of racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution – he has denied all allegations against him. The hearings kicked off last month in New York, with Cassie Ventura and Kid Cudi among those who have taken the stand so far. As proceedings began earlier today, multiple US outlets report that Judge Arun Subramanian was forced to take action when a woman began yelling 'Diddy' and a string of profanities. People Magazine reports that she yelled: 'These motherf**kers are laughing at you. 'You're laughing at a Black man's legacy.' Combs is thought to have remained seated during the incident, but turned around when Judge Subramanian ordered officers to remove the woman. More Trending Jury members were not in the room at the time, but were escorted in shortly before Eddy Garcia – a former security supervisor at the InterContinental hotel in LA – appeared in the witness box. The heckler has not yet been identified but, according to the Washington Post, told reporters after her exit: 'I'm tired of seeing everyone treating Diddy the way they are. 'I said my piece.' Wave Hill is throwing a four-day party with free garden tours, live jazz and more
If your weekend plans don't already include a brass band, flower-making and hand-rolled ice cream—all under the glow of a Hudson River sunset— Wave Hill is about to change that. From Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8, the Bronx 's beloved public garden is throwing itself a 60th anniversary bash that's anything but stuffy. Over four packed days, the 28-acre estate will be abloom with live music, interactive workshops, storytelling, open-air cocktails and the kind of family programming that makes kids and grown-ups equally giddy. The historic garden, perched high above the Hudson, has long been a haven for artists, nature lovers and anyone needing a moment of serenity (Mark Twain and the Roosevelts were early fans). But this celebratory weekend goes big by channeling Wave Hill's roots in creativity and community with an immersive lineup of art, ecology and pure summer joy. Kicking things off are hands-on nature walks, yoga on the lawn, woodworking demos and the rare chance to 'Meet the Gardeners' behind the blooming masterpieces. As day slips into golden hour, garden-inspired cocktails and twilight jazz take over. Saturday night hits a high note with a performance by Brass Queens, Brooklyn's all-female brass band bringing NOLA energy to the Bronx. Families can expect giant paper flower-making and pollinator rambles, while foodies can snag complimentary scoops from OnlyRareNYC, the city's first Black-owned hand-rolled ice cream biz. And yes, it tastes even better with sweeping views and a side of sunshine. The anniversary also marks the debut of four contemporary art exhibitions that weave together flora and feeling. Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya transforms the Sun Porch with a suspended silk-and-brocade spirit-house, while outdoors, You're Soaking in It! invites dreamy communal rest amid the greenery. All the aforementioned activities are free with admission unless noted on the Wave Hill website. Admission to the garden is free on Thursdays, and you can get discounted tickets to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations on Saturday and Sunday by purchasing by June 6. (As always, admission is free for Wave Hill members.) In a city that often forgets to slow down, Wave Hill's anniversary is a reminder: Beauty blooms best when you take time to notice it.
