Quote from Oleksandra: "Nastia, our girl, died at war. She was a mother of two, an instructor at AutoLady [a driving school for women – ed.], an incredibly strong woman – a warrior! It's a pity, there are no words to describe how cool you were! My condolences to the family and all the friends who knew Nastia."
Anastasiia's friend Liliia Shevchenko also shared her memories of the fallen defender.
Quote: "She gave her life for Ukraine. For each of us. For our dawns, our freedom, our future. She was and still is bright, strong, free, loyal, and true. One of those people who don't back down. Who don't remain silent. Who fight to the end for the sake of others.
Her heart stopped in battle, but her name will remain with us forever. In our actions, prayers, and memory. No one will ever be able to fill the void of losing our Nastia."
Volunteer Olha Kakaulina has also recalled her last meeting with Anastasiia. She noted that during the farewell, she felt a strong tightness in her chest, a bad premonition. But no one could dissuade the defender from fighting.
Quote from Liliia: "Thank you for your service. Thank you for becoming a part of my world. You are with me forever. You live in me. You are the four elements at once. You are my perfect girl. My endless source of inspiration. My crazy friend for life. Now everything is exactly as you wanted it, you are finally together again. Eternal love knows no boundaries of earth and sky. Forever!" Liliia Nedilko added with a heavy heart.

American Killed in Deadly Russian Strike on Kyiv

An American citizen was among at least 16 people killed in a deadly overnight Russian strike on Ukraine's capital, officials said. Russian President Vladimir Putin's military launched 175 drones, 14 cruise missiles and two ballistic missiles against Kyiv and the surrounding area overnight, Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, said. It marked Russia's deadliest attack on the city so far this year. Newsweek has reached out to the State Department and the Kremlin for comment by email. The aerial assault marked the latest of a series of attacks by Russia in recent weeks. Efforts led by Washington to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine are faltering, and both sides have launched large-scale onslaughts, with Russia intensifying nighttime strikes with long-range weapons across Ukraine. Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine's interior minister, told reporters that a 62-year-old U.S. citizen had died from shrapnel wounds. Earlier, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said on his Telegram channel that a 62-year-old American was found dead in a house opposite where medics were providing assistance to victims of Russia's overnight strike. At least 16 people were killed and 124 others were wounded in the attacks. Speaking from the Group of 7 summit in Canada on Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "is doing this solely because he can afford to keep waging war. He wants the war to go on." In a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky said residents were trapped under an apartment building that was partially destroyed in the assault. "Right now in Kyiv, efforts are underway to rescue people from under the rubble of an ordinary residential building—it's still unclear how many remain trapped. The Russians destroyed an entire section of the apartment block. In total, buildings in eight districts of Kyiv have been damaged," the president said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on X: "Such attacks are pure terrorism. The whole world, the United States, and Europe must finally respond as a civilized society responds to terrorists. Putin does this solely because he can afford to continue the war. "He wants the war to go on. It is wrong when the powerful of this world turn a blind eye to it. We are in contact with all partners at every possible level to ensure an appropriate response. It is the terrorists who must feel the pain, not innocent peaceful people." The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU)saidin a statement: "Last night's attack was the fourth time this month that Russian armed forces launched more than 400 munitions in a single night. By comparison, Russian armed forces launched 544 long-range munitions during the entire month in June 2024." Moscow and Kviv will continue to launch strikes on each other's territory, with few signs of a peace deal in the near future. Ukraine alleges Russia is mixing its dead into collection of returned bodies

June 16 (UPI) --Ukraine alleged Monday that Russia mixed bodies of its own dead soldiers among the Ukrainian military dead that have been returned, and that more than a million Russians have been killed since conflict began. Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War announced on Telegram that Russia repatriated 1,245 bodies Monday, as per an agreement made between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul. The agency asserts that Ukraine has received a total of 6,057 bodies so far. Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky posted to Telegram Monday that Russia has so far transferred the bodies of 6,060 Ukrainian military members back to Ukraine and received 78 in return. Russia's Ministry of Defense made a separate follow-up announcement that Russia is also ready to transfer the bodies of another 2,239 Ukrainian service members. However, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko posted to Telegram Monday that among the bodies Ukraine has received, 'the bodies of the Russian military were also handed over to us, mixed with the bodies of Ukrainians.' Klymenko alleged that Russia may have unknowingly included some of their dead along with the Ukrainian bodies returned, or 'This could have been done by the Russians deliberately to increase the number of transferred bodies and load the work of our experts, supplementing all this with cynical information pressure.' Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service had announced Sunday that it anticipated Russia would soon start to share false information in regard to a POW exchange slated for Friday and would purport that Ukraine has refused to accept the return of dead soldiers in order to 'provoke a wave of panic and indignation in Ukrainian society and shift responsibility for the crimes committed to the Ukrainian authorities.' The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense also stated that as of Monday Russian losses in its war on Ukraine have surpassed one million dead since it began in February of 2022, as well as more than 40,000 drones, 22,000 armored fighting vehicles and nearly 11,000 tanks.
