Do West Fest takes over stretch of west end street in Toronto

CBC17 hours ago

A festival that bills itself as "Toronto's start to the summer" has taken over a stretch of a major west end street this weekend.
Now in its 12th year, Do West Fest celebrates the rich culture of the city's Little Portugal neighbourhood.
Sixteen blocks are closed to traffic across Dundas Street W. between Lansdowne Avenue and Shaw Street.
The streets are now filled with food trucks and local vendors instead of cars.
Organizers have set up three music stages — Lulaworld, Community and Transmit Presents — throughout the festival.
"All of them bring a bit of a different flavor," Kristyn Gelfand, the event's lead producer told CBC Toronto on Friday.
"Lulaworld has bands from as far away as Ecuador and Brazil. The Community Stage is programmed hyper-locally, so all the artists on that stage have a direct connection to this neighbourhood, whether they live or work or rehearse in this right here on Dundas," Gelfand said..
"And then [there's] the Transmit Stage, which brings in the best of Canadian indie rock from all across the country."
The festival will wrap up at 6 pm. on Saturday, but road closures on Dundas Street W. will stay in effect until midnight.

Brockville Pride Parade takes place Saturday

The beginning of the 2025 Brockville Pride Parade on Saturday, June 7, 2025. (Jack Richardson/CTV News Ottawa). Brockville Pride is hosting its annual Pride Parade down King Street West in the city's downtown on Saturday afternoon to support members of the LGBTQ2S+ community in the area. At noon, over 30 groups representing different organizations and groups will walk through the streets of Brockville before wrapping up at Hardy Park. Brockville Pride began in 2011 - after a LGBTQ2S+ youth in the area took their own life - to raise awareness about the issues their community faces in a rural city. Chairperson Nicole Croteau says Brockville Pride has grown every year. 'Pride is more than just a celebration,' she said. 'Representation and having Pride in rural spaces is so important to show individuals that there is community here, that you belong here, and that there's just love to go around.' The parade is more of a conclusion to Pride Week in Brockville. It began Monday when the city raised a Pride flag on top of the Railway Tunnel, with potlucks, comedy shows, an LGBTQ2S+ Youth prom, and a Drag Competition. It's the end of an era for a Windsor cover band, as they announce their last performance will be on New Year's Eve. Bigg Wiggle has played almost every stage in Windsor raising $150,000 over the years for charity through their own Bigg Wiggle Fest. Band members Dave Lebute and Mike Cooper said they played corporate gigs, weddings bars, until their success snowballed into invites to festivals including Essex Fun Fest and the Corn Fest. Their final performance will be on the last day of 2025 at the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts. Throughout the years they've played songs from Dolly Parton to Flo Rida. The two look back fondly over the years. 'I mean, going to miss the heck out of it. It'll be nice to spend a weekend with my wife, I think, a whole weekend,' said Cooper.
