Tusshar Kapoor Reveals Father Jeetendra Has No Plans To Return To Acting: "He Is Done With It"
Mumbai:
Actor Jeetendra, one of the top stars of the 1960s and 70s, has no plans to be back on the screen, says son Tusshar Kapoor.
Jeetendra gave hits like "Geet Gaya Patharon Ne", "Gunahon Ka Devta", "Farz", "Humjoli" to "Caravan", "Dharam Veer", "Parichay" and "Nagin".
He continued to be in top form till the '80s with credits like "Himmatwala", "Tohfa" and "Mawaali", but stopped acting by the mid-1990s and has since made only cameo or minor appearances in films post-2000.
Kapoor said his father has no desire of being on a film set ever again.
'He tracks today's cinema. But he's not really interested in going on sets. He said, 'I've done somewhere 200 films'. He started so young, when he was just 20. So, he's done with that. I don't think he was ever interested in doing character roles," the actor told PTI.
Kapoor said when his father called it quits on acting, he and many other senior actors were being offered only "stereotypical" roles.
"The roles that were offered to senior actors were very stereotypical. Today, there are a lot of very diverse characters. But that wasn't the case back then. He decided to ease out of it. Now, he's more of a businessman," he added.
Kapoor hopes his father's legacy is explored through a docudrama series. And not just Jeetendra, a project honouring Dharmendra's career should also be made.
"I think dad deserves one, actors like Dharam ji and him, they don't really go out and market themselves," he said, giving the example of "Elvis", the 2022 biographical film about legendary musician Elvis Presley.
"Our legends here also deserve that kind of a tribute. That generation of actors, they have such great work, we've learned from those experiences of theirs. So, I think it will be very 'masaledar' to have a docudrama of either of these icons from the 60s,' he said.
The actor currently stars in the movie 'Kapkapiii', which was released in theatres on May 23.

Did Vishnu Manchu accuse his brother Manoj of stealing Kannappa's hard disk? Here's what he said
Actor Vishnu Manchu has spoken about the stolen hard disk of his upcoming film Kannappa, which contains highly sensitive content. As quoted by Vishnu said that he "suspects" accused Raghu, who reportedly stole it, is employed by his brother Manchu Manoj. He, however, added that he "isn't sure if Raghu stole the hard disk at the behest of" Manoj. (Also Read | Vishnu Manchu's production house claims 'vendetta' behind stolen Kannappa hard drive: 'No secret who orchestrated this') Speaking at an event while promoting Kannappa in Chennai on Friday, Vishnu alleged that Raghu and Charitha, who allegedly stole the disk, are part of Manoj's staff. 'In case the culprits manage to leak the footage, I urge everyone not to watch the leaked content. About 70 minutes of colour-graded footage that was sent from a Mumbai facility to our father's Film Nagar residence was stolen by Raghu more than a month ago." "I suspect Raghu is employed by my brother, Manchu Manoj. But I'm not sure if Raghu stole the hard disk on my brother's command,' Vishnu added. He also said that the hard disk is password protected and 'it's very difficult to crack'. A case was registered against two persons in Hyderabad following a complaint accusing them of the "unauthorised" possession of a hard drive containing highly sensitive content related to the upcoming movie Kannappa, news agency PTI reported, citing the police. 24 Frames Factory, a content development company, said in a post on X recently that a hard drive containing a pivotal action sequence between two lead characters of Kannappa, along with critical VFX work, was "stolen" during transit. It further claimed these individuals are planning to leak over 90 minutes of unreleased footage online in a desperate attempt to derail the release of Kannappa. Based on the complaint filed by an executive producer of 24 Frames Factory, a case was registered under section 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) of the BNS at Filmnagar Police Station on May 25, and further investigation is ongoing, a police official said. The complainant stated that one of their VFX vendors based in Mumbai had dispatched the hard drive containing crucial data to their company's office address in Filmnagar through courier. As per the courier agency's records, the parcel was delivered on March 25 to an office boy, Raghu. Upon verification, it was found that the office boy handed over the hard drive to a woman, Charitha. The hard drive was taken by the woman without any authorisation or intimation to the company, with "malicious and deliberate" intent, which amounts to unauthorised possession and criminal breach of trust, the complainant alleged. A team member contacted her, but she has since been evasive and uncooperative, he said. The film starring Vishnu in the lead role is scheduled for release on June 27. The mythological epic narrates the story of the titular legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. Kannappa is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Manchu's banners, AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory. (With PTI inputs)

Mamta Kulkarni Breaks Silence On Mahamandleshwar Controversy: ‘It Was All in God's Hands'
Last Updated: Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni stepped down as Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada at Maha Kumbh Mela after a dispute. She will continue her spiritual path as a Sadhvi. Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni had recently stepped down from her role as Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. She said she will continue her spiritual path as a 'Sadhvi" (a female spiritual seeker). This came after a dispute between Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and the Kinnar Akhada's founder, Rishi Ajay Das, over giving Mamta the title of Mahamandaleshwar. Mamta has now talked about the controversy for the first time. Speaking to ANI, she said, '…It was all in God's hands for me to become Mahamandaleshwar in that Kumbh, which was such a holy occasion in 140 years. God provided me with the fruits of 25 years of my 'tapasya'. So, that happened." Mamta Kulkarni left her worldly life behind to begin a spiritual journey. She took on a new name — 'Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri." She became a Mahamandaleshwar (a respected spiritual leader) on January 24 during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev openly criticised the actor's anointment as the Mahamandleshwar, saying that nobody can attain sainthood 'in a single day." 'The great Kumbh festival of Sanatana, where our roots are connected, is a grand celebration. This is a sacred festival Some people associate vulgarity, intoxication, and inappropriate behaviour in the name of Kumbh – this is not the true essence of the Maha Kumbh," Baba Ramdev was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. 'Some individuals, who were indulged in worldly pleasures just yesterday, suddenly become saints or even attain titles like Mahamandaleshwar in a single day," the yoga guru added. Since Kulkarni was appointed the Mahamandleshwar, several saints have opposed the decision. Later, both Mamta Kulkarni and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi were expelled from the Akhada by Rishi Ajay Das, the founder of Kinnar Akhada. According to a press release issued on January 30, 2025, Rishi Ajay Das said, 'As the founder of Kinnar Akhada, I am hereby relieving Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi from his position as Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, effective immediately. His appointment was made with the goal of promoting religious activities and uplifting the transgender community, but he has deviated from these responsibilities." In the 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni rose to fame with blockbuster films like Karan Arjun and Baazi. In the early 2000s, she stepped away from the film industry and relocated abroad. First Published:

Cinema meant everything to my father: filmmaker Raj Khosla's daughter Sunita
Legacy was something that Khosla never thought off or even talked about with his family, said Sunita, the second of the director's five daughters. Khosla was an important figure in Hindi with several hits like 'C.I.D.' (1956), 'Woh Kaun Thi?' (1964), 'Mera Saaya' (1966), 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh' (1971) and 'Dostana' (1980) to his credit. His 100th birth anniversary will be celebrated on Saturday. Mumbai, May 30 (PTI) Cinema meant everything to Raj Khosla and he kept working till the very end, says daughter Sunita Bhalla, reminiscing about the director's career and the close bond he shared with Guru Dutt, Dev Anand and Vijay Anand. 'He never thought or talked about legacy, like what he is going to leave behind. He just worked and worked. That's all he did all his life. He never regretted what he did. He never regretted his work. He loved his work. He was very happy with what he did till the end. Cinema meant everything to him,' Sunita told PTI in an interview. Khosla would take good care of people who worked with him and maintained a calm atmosphere on his sets, she said. 'He used to enjoy his work and that was the best part… The stars used to enjoy working with him. He would just say, 'Give your best.' Everybody worked so happily with him. He worked with many top actresses — from Madhubala, Sadhana, Mumtaz, Waheeda Rehman, and Asha Parekh, and others,' she added. Among the over 25 films that her father made as a director, Sunita said she loved 'C.I.D.', 'Bombai Ka Babu' and 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh'. She remembered being on the set of 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh', which featured Dharmendra and Asha Parekh in lead roles with Vinod Khanna playing the antagonist. 'It was in Udaipur. I saw my dad taking shots for the movie, the song 'Maar Diya Jaye Ke Chhod Diya Jaye', which is such a brilliant song, was shot in the studios. 'Apni Prem Kahaniyan' was another memorable track. 'We fell in love with the costumes and jewellery and we would tell dad we wanted to wear all that,' Sunita said, adding that she also saw the shooting of 'Dostana' in Ooty, and 'Kachche Dhage' in Mahabaleshwar. Dev Anand and Guru Dutt played a pivotal role in Khosla's life. The director wanted to be a playback but destiny had different plans for him. He served as an assistant director to Dutt before making his directorial debut with 'Milap' in 1955. Anand and Khosla collaborated on several hits, including 'C.I.D.', 'Kala Pani' and 'Solva Saal'. Sunita said the bond between the trio was 'strong' and unbreakable. 'I've been with him to Dev Anand's house. He had close association with Chetan Anand and Guru Dutt. So, it was four of them together. They would often talk about films. I remember a discussion around who would direct 'Guide'. Some of the portion was shot by dad also, and then Vijay Anand took over after that.' She said Bhatt considered Khosla as a mentor. 'He was an assistant at that time, working under him, assisting in movies and all that.' Khosla was also close friends with poet lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri, lyricist Anand Bakshi, filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee and writer Rahi Masoom Raza. 'They were like a family (Bakshis). I must be 14 or 15 maybe that time. There were so many good moments… Rahi Masoom Raza was his close friend. He also had a bond with Majrooh Sultanpuri, and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. With Hrishkesh Mukherjee, he used to play chess everyday. That's how he used to pass his time in the evenings.' Sunita shared that as a father had set certain rules for his five daughters to follow and weekends were always reserved as 'family time.' 'He used to make sure that all five of us used to be in the house at seven o'clock in the evening. Nobody was allowed to go anywhere (after that) unless we told him. Every Saturday,Sunday, we used to have family time at our ancestral house. My grandfather would be there and keep all our stuff ready for us. We used to eat biryani over there, and enjoy it,' she added. Despite making some of the most critically-acclaimed films of Hindi cinema, Sunita believes her father hasn't been appreciated much. And that's why a retrospective to commemorate his 100th birth anniversary is a 'special' moment for the family, she added. 'All the heroines and people who have worked with him should come together and just honour him. That's all my request from the industry. I would appreciate it if people in the industry understood and just honoured him,' Sunita said. Titled 'Raj Khosla 100 – Bambai Ka Babu', the event will take place on May 31 at Mumbai's Regal Cinema and also features a special panel discussion on the legacy of one of Indian cinema's most versatile directors. As part of the celebrations, three of Khosla's acclaimed films — 'C.I.D.' (1956), 'Bambai Ka Babu' (1960), and 'Mera Gaon Mera Desh' (1971) — will be screened.
