Patna: The railways have finalised preparations to begin construction of a state-of-the-art suburban terminal at Hardinge Park, with an estimated cost of Rs 95 crore, following the foundation laying ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 30.
Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary said the suburban terminal will come up on a sprawling 4.8-acre land at the Hardinge Park area which will help decongest the huge traffic load from Patna Junction.
According to Choudhary, the new suburban terminal is envisioned as a modern transportation hub, featuring airport-like facilities. It will have five platforms, each initially 400 metres in length.
"However, efforts are underway to acquire an additional 2.5 acres of land from the Posts and Telegraph (P&T) department to extend the platform lengths to 600 metres. This extension will enable the terminal to accommodate and handle mail and express trains with LHB coaches," he said.
The suburban terminal is strategically significant due to its location on the Kiul-Patna-DDU route, which is currently undergoing capacity augmentation with the addition of third and fourth lines in the days to come.
"Once operational, the terminal will serve as a dedicated hub for passenger trains, including MEMUs," the DRM said.
The railways has worked out a plan to make at least 80 passenger trains operational daily from Hardinge Park suburban terminal, connecting passengers to all four cardinal directions — north, south, east and west. "The new terminal will primarily serve as a launch point for intercity and regional trains, offering punctuality and better services," Choudhary said, adding that the terminal will boast a range of modern facilities like a 2,000-seat waiting hall equipped with modern amenities.
In addition, 15 general ticket-booking counters will be there to streamline ticketing and reduce waiting time. A parking facility, with a capacity of 1,000 vehicles, will be developed around the suburban terminal area. Direct connectivity to the newly built multimedia hub and the upcoming Patna Metro Rail service will be provided to allow seamless intermodal travel for passengers.

Housefull 5 India Advance Booking Update: Akshay Kumar's comic caper to sell in the vicinity of 40000 tickets in top chains with a day to go
Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 is gearing up for its big release on June 6, 2025. The advance bookings for the comic caper kicked off a few days ago and here is how the bookings are in India's top multiplex chains, PVRInox and Cinepolis. As of 10 PM on June 4, the film has sold 37,000 tickets. By the end of the day, Housefull 5 is expected to hit 40,000 tickets. With just one day left, the makers are hoping for a massive surge to reach at least 100,000 tickets in these chains. The advance bookings for the Akshay Kumar starrer started on June 1. Initially, the target was to sell 125,000 to 150,000 tickets in PVRInox and Cinepolis. However, the pace has been slower than expected. As of now, the film is aiming for a more realistic 100,000 tickets by Thursday night. This would set the stage for a respectable opening day collection of Rs 20 crore net in India. While Rs 20 crore is a not exactly a bad start, a film of Housefull 5's scale, boasting a Rs 225 crore budget, needs a bigger opening to make waves. A Rs 25-30 crore start would be ideal, but you take what you get. Outside the top chains, the booking trend is stronger. Chains like Rajhans, MovieMax, and Miraj are seeing better pre-sales. This suggests that Housefull 5 could see good walk-in numbers on release day, especially in smaller towns. The weekend bookings looks promising. Advance bookings for Saturday (Bakri Eid) and Sunday are picking up strongly. Family audiences are expected to turn up in big numbers, boosting the film's prospects. If the comedy lands well and the murder-mystery intrigue around the dual climaxes clicks, Housefull 5 could see a big jump over the weekend. Financially, Housefull 5 is in a strong position. The film has already recovered nearly 60 percent of its budget, that is around Rs 135 crore, through non-theatrical sources like satellite rights, digital streaming, and music deals. This gives the makers a safety net. To break even, the film needs to gross Rs 275 crore worldwide. To be declared a hit, it must cross Rs 325 crore globally. With a massive release across 5,000 screens in India, the stage is set for a big theatrical run. The unique strategy of releasing two versions with different climaxes should spark discussions after the release. This could possibly also drive repeat viewings, adding to the box office haul. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 features a star-studded cast that also includes Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Jacqueline Fernandez among others. The franchise's brand value and the promise of a laugh riot on a luxury cruise are key draws. With good international pre-sales and a holiday weekend ahead, Housefull 5 is poised for a reasonable global start.

New drivers flee with cars to Lucknow, Gaya
1 2 Kolkata: Be careful before handing over your car to a driver based on some random online searches. Cops insist that if possible, hire the driver from a reputed agency and ensure you have enough documents ready. At least two cases have been reported from south Kolkata where a gang, responding to online queries, is masquerading as drivers and stealing vehicles to then sell them off in UP and Bihar. Raju Singh, who recently purchased a car through a loan, hired Mohit Kumaras a full-time driver through the website "Work India". Kumar was employed by the Singh family since May 29, charging Rs 500 for six hours of daily service. On May 3, around 10.30 am, Kumar picked up Singh, along with his mother and wife, from their Haridevpur residence and dropped the family near a momo shop on Sarat Bose Road and drove away, claiming there was no parking available nearby. After multiple failed attempts to contact the driver, the family discovered that the car's GPS system was disabled, making it difficult to track the vehicle's location. The car was later traced to the Asansol area by the police. Within hours, the next location was found to be Lucknow. This incident follows a similar case where the Kasba police station recently arrested four individuals for a comparable scheme. In that case, Somnath Mukherjee rented a car through an app-based service from owner Pravesh Kothari before disappearing with the vehicle. The police successfully tracked the car to Durgapur Expressway near Memari, where they apprehended four suspects who had initially taken the car to Gaya. "People who rely on internet platforms to hire drivers often compromise their security," said a cop. "While hiring drivers provides convenience for non-drivers, the lack of proper verification systems on these platforms poses significant risks," he added.

Patna: Union ministry of road transport and highways granted administrative and financial approval for two infrastructure projects in Samastipur. The project involves four-laning of a 2.056-km stretch of NH-322 from Mathurapur to Mukhtapur ROB and construction of a new 200-metre long HLRCC bridge over the Budhi Gandak river in the district. The project is estimated to cost Rs 58.60 crore, said road construction department (RCD) officials on Wednesday. According to an official statement issued by the Bihar State Road Construction Corporation Limited (BSRDCL), the project includes widening and strengthening of the road from chainage 67.471 km to 69.256 km of NH-322 and construction of a new HLRCC bridge (8x24.00 metres) in place of the old damaged screw pile bridge. The tender for the project has been issued, and the construction work is expected to be completed within 24 months from the commencement date. RCD minister, Nitin Nabin, while expressing gratitude to the central govt for approving the project, said, "The project will not only improve connectivity between Samastipur and Darbhanga but also provide relief to urban traffic." Nabin said that NH-322 is a major route in Samastipur district, connecting Samastipur and Darbhanga through Magardih ghat. The current HLRCC bridge at Magardih Ghat is functional, while the old screw pile bridge is damaged and unusable. The new project will enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in the area, he said. The project was announced by CM Nitish Kumar during his 'Pragati Yatra' on Jan 13, 2025. The announcement included construction of a new HLRCC bridge and four-laning of the road from Magardih Ghat to Mukhtapur. With the central govt's approval and tender issuance, the project is now set to move forward.
