Narayani Shastri Reacts To Deepika Padukone's Exit From Spirit: 'Women Should Rest...'

Last Updated: Recently, Deepika Padukone was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to some working conditions placed by the new mother. Actress Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit" has sparked a new debate in the entertainment industry about the rightful working hours for new moms. Popular television actress, Narayani Shastri shared her views on the matter during an exclusive conversation with IANS. According to Narayani, it is a personal choice. She told IANS, 'Someone like Deepika Padukone can work on her own terms, and if people agree to her conditions, that's great. Personally, I believe women should rest after childbirth. But if a woman feels ready and has the strength to work, and others are willing to cooperate with her conditions, then more power to her. That's how society works—those with the strength and support can move forward." Recently, Deepika was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's highly anticipated next, 'Spirit" due to some working conditions placed by the new mother. It is believed that Deepika demanded eight-hour shifts, along with an increase in pay, and a share in the profit. The reports also claim she refused to speak the Telugu lines, asking them to be dubbed. Work-wise, Narayani will next be seen in the new television show, 'Noyontara". She will be seen in a double role in the project. Talking about her characters in her next, she shared, 'I'm doing a double role in this show. On one hand, the negative character is like a sweet knife—it's sharp but charming. On the other hand, the positive character has so many layers. As an actor, it's a delight to portray such depth." Sharing her shooting experience, Narayani added, 'In the initial days of the shoot, we would often pause and wonder if we were portraying the right energy or character. It required a lot of alertness and presence of mind. I had to constantly check whether I was playing the correct version of the character at that moment. But overall, it was a lot of fun." Kannada Sahitya Parishat seeks to join petition against Kamal film release

Bengaluru: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), has filed an impleading application before the high court in connection with a petition filed by Chennai-based Raajkamal Films International, producer of the Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Thug Life'. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Opposing the plea for police protection sought by the production house for the film's release in Karnataka, KSP, through its president Mahesh Joshi, argued that the Constitution does not grant absolute protection to speech, especially when it is likely to disturb public harmony or hurt the dignity of a language and its people. Referring to Kamal's controversial remark that Kannada originated from Tamil, KSP called it an intentional or reckless statement that undermines the status of Kannada. The apex body for Kannada literature also stated that the actor has not issued a formal apology or made any sincere attempt to clarify his stand. In its filing, KSP contended that police resources should not be used to protect commercial interests. It added that public protests, boycott calls, or expressions of anger over the film are all part of democratic expression, and do not automatically amount to unlawful threats that merit state protection. "The very Constitution the petitioner invokes to seek protection also allows peaceful dissent and criticism. To oppose a film is not to endanger law and order," KSP said. On June 3, the court adjourned the hearing after the filmmakers assured that 'Thug Life' would not be released in Karnataka until a dialogue is held with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). The matter is now posted to June 13 for further hearing.

Thug Life box office collection day 1 early estimate: Kamal Haasan film unlikely to surpass Indian 2's first day numbers

Thug Life box office collection day 1 early estimate: Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's latest collaboration Thug Life finally hit theatres on Thursday. Even after opening to poor reviews from critics and the audience, the film is off to a decent start at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Thug Life has collected Rs. 13.25 crore in India, as of 9 pm on Thursday. Due to the negative response, the action-drama is unlikely to even surpass opening numbers (Rs 26 crore) of Haasan's Indian 2, which was a disaster at the box office. According to Sacnilk, Thug Life recorded an overall Tamil-language occupancy of 48.72% on Thursday. Morning shows saw 50.66% occupancy, afternoon shows registered 50.35%, and evening shows dipped to 45.15%. Pondicherry reported the highest occupancy so far at 69.33%. The Mani Ratnam film is unlikely to rank in the biggest Tamil openers list of this year. Ajith Kumar's Good Bad Ugly is the biggest Tamil opener of 2025 with Rs. 28.15 crore. The second spot belongs to Vidaamuyarchi at Rs. 25.5 crore, followed by Suriya's Retro at Rs. 17.25 crore. ALSO READ | Thug Life Review: Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam's 'game of thrones' is a cinematic endurance test Besides the poor reviews, Thug Life may also have been affected by the ban in Karnataka. The controversy around its ban originated after a statement made by Kamal Haasan during a promotional event. While addressing the audience, he had said, 'Your language (Kannada) was born out of Tamil.' The actor's remark offended many Kannadigas and led to strong reactions from several pro-Kannada groups. Haasan refused to apologise for his statement, which sparked a huge row, leading to the ban of the movie. An excerpt from SCREEN's Thug Life review read, 'Mani Ratnam has delivered what is arguably his weakest film to date, the Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life. Worse still, the only way one could even identify it as a Mani Ratnam film is the grandiosity of its visuals and the occasional brilliance of its long shots. If not for these, Thug Life would have felt like an unending gangster drama, crafted by an overambitious filmmaker (anyone, really) whose only asset was ambition and nothing more.' Directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies, Thug Life also features Trisha Krishnan, T.R. Silambarasan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and Mahesh Manjrekar in pivotal roles.
