Tennessee State football player now headed to the ACC
Karate Brenson, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound wide receiver from St. Louis, Missouri, has made a significant impact during his collegiate football career. After beginning at Ball State in 2021, where he played three games and caught two passes, Brenson transferred to Tennessee State University in 2022. Over three seasons with the Tigers, he amassed 130 receptions for 1,669 yards and nine touchdowns. His standout 2024 season included 79 catches for 1,088 yards and six touchdowns, earning him an 88.4 grade from Pro Football Focus. ?
Brenson's performance attracted attention from multiple FBS programs. Following the departure of TSU head coach Eddie George to Bowling Green, Brenson entered the transfer portal in March 2025. He received offers from schools including Oklahoma State, Bowling Green, and Purdue. Ultimately, Brenson transferred to Wake Forest, where he is expected to contribute significantly to the Demon Deacons' offense in the upcoming season.
Two former HBCU receivers, Reginald Vick Jr. and Sterling Berkhalter, committed to Wake Forest out of the ACC in January.
Wake Forest football endured a challenging 2024 season, finishing with a 4–8 overall record and 1–7 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom of the conference in total yards and points scored. Quarterback play was inconsistent following the departure of Sam Hartman, and the offensive line allowed a high number of sacks. Despite the setbacks, the defense showed flashes of resilience, particularly in close contests against Virginia and Pitt.
Reggie Barlow has built a respected football coaching career following his success as an NFL wide receiver. After beginning his coaching journey at his alma mater, Alabama State, Barlow served as head coach from 2007 to 2014, leading the Hornets to multiple winning seasons and a SWAC Championship appearance. He later coached at Virginia State University, compiling a strong 34–16 record over five seasons. In 2022, Barlow made history as the first head coach of the XFL's D.C. Defenders, guiding the team to the league championship game in 2023. Known for discipline and player development, Barlow is prepared for his next opportunity at Tennessee State University.

Former Raiders First-Round Draft Bust Lands Texans Workout
Former Raiders First-Round Draft Bust Lands Texans Workout originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders have endured their share of failures in the NFL Draft over the last few decades. While bashing the team for the selections of JaMarcus Russell and Henry Ruggs III feels like low-hanging fruit, these two picks are just the beginning of the team's struggles. Advertisement 2020 first-round pick Damon Arnette was an utter disaster for the Silver and Black, both on and off the field. He lasted just under two seasons with the franchise after posting a Pro Football Focus grade of 32.9 in his second year. He only played in 13 total games for the Raiders and recorded just 29 tackles, three passes defended and zero interceptions (via Pro Football Reference). Former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Damon Arnette (20).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Arnette has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence playing in the UFL this spring, however. He has starred for the Houston Roughnecks, recording 18 tackles, five pass break-ups, 1.0 sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown. Advertisement On Monday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson announced that Arnette landed a workout with the Houston Texans. The Texans already have two great young corners in 2024 First-Team All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter, who had three interceptions and 10 pass break-ups last season. However, Houston chose to take a flyer on Arnette, who was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Arnette had five interceptions and 22 passes defended during his four-year career at Ohio State. When Arnette was picked by the Raiders, Jon Gruden was still the team's head coach and Mike Mayock was the general manager. Just five years later, the team is on its fourth general manager and head coach since Arnette's selection. WATCH: A.J. Brown trains 2nd-year WR Ainias Smith on the power of Visualization
A.J. Brown didn't rest on his laurels after winning Super Bowl 59. He chose to get right back into the gym and take his skills to another level as the Birds look to repeat as Champions. Brown is a motivational speaker and a team captain. He recently traveled to the most "dangerous gym in America" to test his mind, body, and spirit. Brown is taking things to another level, and that means taking second-year wide receiver Ainias Smith under his wing. As a rookie wideout in 2024, Smith caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown when the team rested its primary starters in Week 18. Still, he was a non-factor on offense during his previous six appearances in the regular season and spent most of the season on the PUP list and injured reserve. He'll enter 2025 looking to prove he can contribute to the passing game and special teams. Advertisement Recently, Brown and Smith ran the steps at Lincoln Financial Field, followed by Brown giving the versatile pass catcher from Texas A&M advice on "visualizing your goals' and "manifesting your success." Brown's words are powerful and can resonate with anyone regardless of what phase of life you're currently embarking on. Brown is having a great off-season, and in Pro Football Focus's ranking of the top 32 NFL wide receivers, landed the top spot, with DeVonta Smith in the top 20. Despite missing three games due to injury, A.J. Brown led the team with 1,079 receiving yards. He also ranked 1st in receiving average (16.1) (min. 60 catches) and 3rd in receiving yards per game (83.0) (min. 13 games), behind Ja'Marr Chase (100.5) and Justin Jefferson (90.2). Smith posted a career-high 8 TDs in the regular season and hauled in a 46-yard TD in Super Bowl LIX. During the run to the Super Bowl, he became the franchise's all-time leader in postseason receiving yards (595). This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: A.J. Panthers named potential landing spot for CB Jaire Alexander
Panthers named potential landing spot for CB Jaire Alexander The Carolina Panthers could be a dark-horse destination for the (soon-to-be) top free agent in the NFL. As reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Monday, the Green Bay Packers are releasing cornerback Jaire Alexander. The two-time Pro Bowler is now set to hit the open market—where the Panthers, according to Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema, could be prowling. Sikkema writes the following of Carolina, who he named as one of six potential landing spots for Alexander: This one feels a bit out of left field, but stick with us. The Panthers' secondary under defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero last season was fairly aggressive, playing single-high coverages 66.4% of the time. They used Cover 3 more than Cover 1, running the zone scheme on 38.7% of snaps compared to 16.9% in 2023. Alexander's 98th-percentile PFF coverage grade over the past three years in single-coverage situations is evidence of his impact from a single-high alignment as a cornerback who can succeed in both man and zone situations when there is only one safety deep. Making this move would depend on where the Panthers believe they are in their competing window, but they would surely be interested at the right price. It would also be somewhat of a homecoming for Alexander, who played football at Rocky River High School just outside of the Charlotte area. Alexander was selected by the Packers with the 18th overall pick of the 2018 draft. He's since gone on to appear in 78 games over seven campaigns—amassing 287 combined tackles, 12 interceptions and 70 passes defensed. His availability, or lack thereof, in recent years likely factored into Green Bay's decision to part ways. Injuries have limited Alexander, now 28 years old, to 34 of a possible 64 games since 2021. Adding Alexander alongside 2024 Pro Bowler Jaycee Horn would undoubtedly give Carolina one of the top cornerback duos in the entire league. But is the recent injury history, as well as the money and years it'll probably take to secure the talented defender, worth the risk for the Panthers?
