Trump Phone no longer claims to be made in the USA — but it does have an 'America proud design'
In a move that should surprise no one, the Trump Mobile T1 phone will likely not be "Made in the USA" as had been originally claimed. Announced as part of the Trump Organization's newly launched wireless service, the T1 had been touted as an example of the Trump administration's push to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S., but that apparently won't apply to this device.
Instead, the Trump Mobile website has changed the language around the phone, with the T1 now lasted as featuring an "American Proud Design."
It's an obfuscating phrase that will invite comparisons to how Apple packaging reads "Designed by Apple in California." Of course, it's no secret that Apple's iPhone are built outside the U.S., with the company shifting some production to India and Vietnam in order to avoid tariffs imposed against by the Trump administration on products originating in China.
Of course, that may be where the T1 phone originates from. A CNN report after the phone was launched noted the difficulty in building phones in the U.S. — there's not the assembly facilities here to make smartphones on a large scale. Instead, the report claimed, the T1 was most likely coming from a Chinese original device manufacturer.
It's widely believed that Wingtech may be the firm building the T1. The Chinese manufacturer also makes the Revvl 7 Pro 5G phone for T-Mobile, and that device has many of the same specs as the Trump Mobile-branded phone.
At any rate, the Trump Mobile website has backed off the "Made in the USA" claims that originally appeared. "It's brought to life right here in the USA," the website now reads. "With American hands behind every device, we bring care, precision, and trusted quality to every detail."
It's hard to even get a "made in the USA" stamp on products. As our friends at Tech Radar found, "The FTC [Federal Trade Commission] has a strict standard for 'Made in USA': all or almost all parts and processing must be domestic. Judging by that standard, the claim is unrealistic."

Trump Mobile is an offshot from the Trump Organization, a business now operated by President Trump's children. The wireless business is launching at the same time the president is pushing companies like Apple to manufacture their products in the U.S. In May, the president threatened a 25% tariff on Apple unless the company moved iPhone production to the United States.
It's not impossible for Apple to eventually shift some production to the US, but not at the scale and speed that Trump has demanded.
Currently, the tariff war between the U.S. and China is on pause with a smaller 10% tax on Chinese goods as the two countries attempt to negotiate an economic deal. It's unclear if Trump Mobile's T1 phone will be subject to any levies or tariffs.

BANGKOK -- The U.S. and China have signed an agreement on trade, President Donald Trump said, adding he expects to soon have a deal with India. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told Bloomberg TV that the deal was signed earlier this week. Neither Lutnick nor Trump provided any details about the agreement. Export controls of the minerals apparently eclipsed tariffs in the latest round of trade negotiations between Beijing and Washington after China imposed permitting requirements on seven rare earth elements in April, threatening to disrupt production of cars, robots, wind turbines and other high-tech products in the U.S. and around the world. The agreement struck in May in Geneva called for both sides to scale back punitive tariff hikes imposed as Trump escalated his trade war and sharply raised import duties. Some higher tariffs, such as those imposed by Washington related to the trade in fentanyl and duties on aluminum and steel, remain in place. The rapidly shifting policies are taking a toll on both of the world's two largest economies. The U.S. economy contracted at a 0.5% annual pace from January through March, partly because imports surged as companies and households rushed to buy foreign goods before Trump could impose tariffs on them. In China, factory profits sank more than 9% from a year earlier in May, with automakers suffering a large share of that drop. They fell more than 1% year-on-year in January-May. Trump and other U.S. officials have indicated they expect to reach trade deals with many other countries, including India. 'We're going to have deal after deal after deal,' Lutnick said.

A core memory that I have from my childhood was that nearly every summer, my family would load up our cars and hit the road on hours-long road trips to vacation destinations within and around the northeast. However, this was the early and mid-2000s; the iPhone was years away, and the best built-in in-car entertainment technology at the time was the flip-out DVD players that came on the top-of-the-line versions of minivans like the Chrysler Town and Country and three-row SUVs like the Honda Pilot. Of course, we had none of that. On those trips, I hoped to heaven that my iPod would have enough juice to drown out my mom and my sister shouting directions from a Mapquest printout. However, it's the 21st century, and new digital solutions are keeping passengers from saying 'Are we there yet?' These days, big 'ol screens are in our faces 24/7, and they even dominate the dashboards of our cars. However, Audi is taking advantage of that fact and using it to transform the typical, boring car ride into a shared digital experience with the launch of AirConsole, a gaming platform available in select Audis. As the name suggests, AirConsole is a virtual video game platform that enables occupants to play games directly on the vehicle's infotainment screen by using their smartphones as controllers. This feature is now offered through the Audi Application Store in Audis equipped with Android-based infotainment systems, including the Audi A5, Q5, A6, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron. Once inside the car, players can connect their phones by scanning a QR code on the infotainment screen, which will instantly turn their devices into wireless controllers. Passengers can then enjoy solo or multiplayer sessions on the central display, or, in models equipped with a passenger screen, even keep the games going while the vehicle is in motion. Thanks to Audi's dynamic privacy mode, gameplay stays out of the driver's view to avoid distraction. The available game catalog is expansive, with new additions arriving regularly. These include puzzle, trivia, and even fast-paced party games, like UNO Car Party!, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and Pictionary Car Party, which will be available exclusively to Audi drivers through the end of 2025. Audi's adoption of AirConsole reflects a broader trend in the automotive industry, where automakers find new ways to make cars into personalized digital 'homes away from home.' Although Audi is new to the AirConsole platform, other luxury brands have already adopted it. BMW was the first automaker to integrate AirConsole into its lineup, introducing the feature in its 7 Series and later expanding it to other models, including cars in its MINI brand. However, Tesla pioneered in-car gaming in 2019 with Tesla Arcade. Personally, I think this sort of integration is kind of cool, though I probably won't be able to fully use it unless I am driving actual children in the car on an extended road trip, or if someone else is driving. Today's kids have it made, but I do think there's a hidden benefit with this sort of integration. The games available on AirConsole include Uno and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, which require thinking and, most importantly, encourage active communication while playing. Say what you will about kids and their phones, but I'd rather be in a car full of energy and interaction than one where each occupant is silent and in their own world. Apple Enhances iOS 26 'Liquid Glass' UI in Second Developer Beta
