Investigators are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Ashley's deathA 20-year-old Texas woman died after falling off a jet ski, just hours after sending a lighthearted video to her boyfriend.
Ashley Gil disappeared in an area of Lake Houston in Deussen Park after falling off a jet ski on Tuesday, June 17, and her body was recovered two days later on Thursday, June 19, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD), per local news outlet KHOU 11.
Ashley was allegedly not wearing a life jacket when she fell from the jet ski, which was carrying multiple people at the time, per the outlet.
PEOPLE reached out to the HPD for comment on Sunday, June 22, but did not receive an immediate response.
In a statement to ABC 13 Houston, Ashley's boyfriend, Jason Rogriguez, said that he was out of town working the day of the incident, and he received a video of Ashley having fun on the jet ski at about noon that day, several hours before she allegedly fell.
She was wearing a life jacket in the video, which he shared with the outlet.
Jason also told ABC 13 that he and Ashley's loved ones still have questions regarding what occurred that day.
Investigators are awaiting the results of Ashley's autopsy to confirm her cause of death, and they are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, per ABC 13.

A press release from the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis stated that Deussen Park was closed on June 17 and would remain closed on Wednesday, June 18, while police worked with search and rescue teams to locate the victim.
In a later statement shared on June 19, Ellis confirmed that the body of a 'young woman' had been found.
'My heart goes out to her family, her loved ones and everyone affected by this tragic loss,' he said.
Ashley's sister, Kathy Gil, has since created a GoFundMe to help her mother pay for funeral expenses for Ashley, as well as any other unexpected costs that may arise as a result of their loss.
'Ashley was a bright light in the lives of so many, full of love, laughter and kindness. She had an incredible spirit that touched everyone around her. Her absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of our family, friends, and all who knew her,' the GoFundMe reads.
The GoFundMe has raised nearly $8,000 toward a goal of $10,000 as of Sunday, June 22.

L.A. sheriff's officials say their post on Iran was an error and 'offensive'

A day after news that the U.S. military bombed three nuclear sites in Iran, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said on its social media channels their "hearts go out" to Iranian "victims." The post sparked quick backlash — and a quick apology. It's unclear what time the initial message, which was on X, Facebook and Instagram, was posted Sunday. The department deleted the post from X and edited its Facebook and Instagram posts to remove the first two sentences. An apology issued Sunday evening referred to the original post as "offensive and inappropriate." According to a screenshot of the tweet from KTLA, the original post read, "Our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the recent bombings in Iran. While this tragic event occurred overseas, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is closely monitoring the situation alongside our local, state, and federal partners." Read more: What you need to know about the U.S. strikes in Iran The post also stated that, although there are no known threats to Los Angeles County, the department would be increasing patrol checks at places of worship and other sensitive locations throughout the county "out of an abundance of caution." The edited versions of the post on Instagram and Facebook exclude the first sentence of the original post and any mention of Iran, instead stating that the department is monitoring "the situation overseas." In its apology, the department said the post was made in error and did not reflect the views of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the department. — LA County Sheriffs (@LASDHQ) June 23, 2025 "As a law enforcement agency, we do not comment on foreign policy or military matters. Our mission remains solely focused on protecting public safety and serving our diverse communities," the statement continued. The department has launched an internal review to determine how the posts were created and published, and it is taking steps to strengthen "social media oversight protocols," the statement said. ICE detains Marine Corps veteran's wife who was still breastfeeding their baby

BATON ROUGE, La. — Marine Corps veteran Adrian Clouatre doesn't know how to tell his children where their mother went after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained her last month. When his nearly 2-year-old son Noah asks for his mother before bed, Clouatre just tells him, 'Mama will be back soon.' When his 3-month-old, breastfeeding daughter Lyn is hungry, he gives her a bottle of baby formula instead. He's worried how his newborn will bond with her mother absent skin-to-skin contact.
