What is Qi2
Qi2 is the latest open wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), an organisation that works with technology companies to define benchmarks for safety, efficiency, and interoperability in wireless power applications.
Built on Apple's MagSafe technology, Qi2 introduces a ring of magnetic coils that ensures better charger alignment, leading to faster and more efficient charging. Devices certified under the Qi2 standard support 15W fast charging with compatible chargers—a substantial improvement over the 5W limit of the original Qi standard.
Qi2-compatible chargers are also backward compatible, meaning they can wirelessly charge older Qi-certified smartphones. Additionally, users with Qi-supported devices can purchase magnetic ring cases to enable magnetic attachments similar to those used by Qi2-certified phones.

WWDC 2025: A reworked iPadOS and the dreams of a touchscreen MacBook
At the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025 keynote, Apple has given iPadOS not just a new visual theme that is aligned with iOS and macOS, but also pivoted the tablet operating system more towards productivity and workflows. In other words, the iPadOS as a platform is now the closest it has ever been to macOS, the Mac computing device platform. And this is a significant shift from its proximity to iOS, as it had been till now. On the agenda for the iPadOS 26 update that rolls out later this year, is a new approach to multi-tasking, that is handling multiple apps and windows within the display real estate, as well as reconfigured pointer for more precise control (instead of the scroll and highlight focus with the circular tracker); the introduction of an updated Files app, preview for managing PDF files and platform parity with Apple Intelligence introductions such as Live Translations. Or as Apple calls it, a 'biggest iPadOS release ever'. Of course, the Liquid Glass design adds a new visual dimension too. With this different approach to the software and therefore usability, Apple would hope to make an iPad or iPad Pro (particularly with the Magic Keyboard as well as the Apple Pencil) relevant for the typical MacBook buyer. The lack of proper productivity support for an iPad, at least what a Mac user would expect, otherwise created a complicated buying decision. 'iPadOS 26 is our biggest iPadOS release ever, with powerful features that take the experience to the next level and transform what users can do on iPad. With a beautiful new design, an entirely new powerful and intuitive windowing system, even more features powered by Apple Intelligence, huge improvements to working with files, and new capabilities for creatives to power their workflows, iPadOS 26 makes our most versatile device even more capable,' said Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, at the keynote. That is the key to the iPadOS evolution, with a focus on productivity, more than the iPadOS has done thus far. The new windowing system to use the display real estate for more than one app at the same time, is aligned to how windows handling and Mission Control works on macOS across the entire Mac computing device portfolio. 'Familiar window controls allow users to seamlessly close, minimise, resize, or tile their windows, " is how Apple describes the changes. Even the gestures to switch between the app windows, the flick gesture, is very reminiscent of how things work on a Mac. Users can place apps side by side, or use the flick gesture to view all open app tiles and quickly select from there. In addition, apps on the iPad will get a new menu bar, again much like how it is in macOS — quicker access to app specific functionality in File, Edit, Insert etc. There will also be Apple Intelligence parity across iOS, macOS and iPadOS, including Live Translation in Phone, FaceTime, and Messages, and new actions in Shortcuts. The latter may be a particularly relevant piece of the AI jigsaw. An illustration of this is, comparison of an audio transcription of a class lecture with the notes a user may have written, and AI will add any key points that may have been missed. While iPadOS doesn't get a Finder reminiscent of macOS, the updated Files app does add a new List view for the data a user may be searching for, as well as the ability to drag any file from the Files app into the iPadOS dock. The iPad is finally getting a native PDF handler, with the Mac's Preview app being added to the iPadOS. Key functionality will include viewing and editing PDF files, as well as the ability to use the Apple Pencil to quickly fill out a form, or make notes on an existing PDF document. Apple never released a touchscreen MacBook, something that was often demanded by many users. The key takeaway from the iPadOS 26 finding new productivity means that while a touchscreen Mac may have never happened, an iPad Pro with a keyboard, might just replicate the expectation.

Apple Expands ChatGPT Deal and Mimics Google in AI Comeback Attempt
Bloomberg Published 10 Jun 2025, 03:53 AM IST (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. introduced a number of AI-powered features during the company's Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, even as long-awaited enhancements to its Siri voice assistant remain far off. The announcements included an expanded relationship with ChatGPT maker OpenAI, which first teamed up with Apple last year and underpins many of the new capabilities that are coming to iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26 and visionOS 26 this fall. Artificial intelligence wasn't the main focus of the event, which dwelled more on operating system design changes and other features. But the AI capabilities will help Apple's iOS begin to match more of the features that are already offered by Samsung Electronics Co. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google in Android devices. These are the notable AI-related features that were announced at WWDC: More stories like this are available on

Apple WWDC 2025: Why did tech giant move from iOS 18 to iOS 26?
Apple, at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2025, unveiled various upgrades to its operating systems on Monday, including the release of iOS 26 as the tech giant decided to change its naming convention. The tech giant announced the release of its new iOS this fall. Originally, as per the usual sequence name after iOS 18, this year's release would have been called iOS 19. However, since Apple declared that it is changing its naming convention, saying that its future iOS versions will be numbered on the basis of the year, similar to how car manufacturers name new models, this year's release will be called iOS 26. "Our releases for the fall that will power us through the coming year 2026 will be version 26," said Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president. The upcoming latest software versions cross all products of Apple will end with '26' - iOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, visionOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26. Apple also announced a new "Liquid Glass" design language for its software. This will display apps and toggles with a translucent, glass-like shine. The new design will be implemented in buttons, sliders, media controls and larger elements such as tab bars and sidebars, along with matching redesigned toolbars and navigation system. The tech giant is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the release of the new design later this year. The company said that it is also making new additions of Apple Intelligence to its operating system, including Live Translation. Image Playground is also getting a new feature boost with the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens with the help of Visual Intelligence. Users can search about images on their iPhones across Google, Etsy, and other supported apps. If the tool finds out that you are viewing an event, iOS 26 will suggest that you add it to your calendar. Additionally, the tech giant said that it would add generative AI to its Xcode coding tools that can help developers write code, test it and resolve errors.
