Jury retires in trial over £1.38m watch raid that ‘led man to kill himself'
The jury has retired to consider its verdicts in the trial of two men allegedly involved in a £1.38 million robbery that may have led a jewellery store manager to kill himself.
Junior Kunu, 30, and Mannix Pedro, 37, are charged with conspiring with others to commit the robbery after watches were stolen from a south-west London jewellery store last year.
Office manager Oliver White, 27, took his own life the next day 'as a direct result' of the robbery, jurors were told.
Kunu and Pedro are on trial at Woolwich Crown Court but at least two others said to have been involved are at large.
More than 70 'high-value' watches were taken from the 247 Kettles shop in Richmond on May 25, the court heard.
Mr White's witness statement, given to police after the alleged attack, was read to the court.
He said that on May 25 two men entered Kettles and 'their body language was completely relaxed and there was nothing that made me suspect anything'.
Mr White said he was put in a headlock and could not move as they took the watches, and his skin was left reddened.
Pedro, who did not attend the shop on May 25, was 'closely involved in the planning and execution', including the use of a stolen Audi as one of two getaway cars, the court heard.
Kunu, of Mitcham, south-west London, and Pedro, of Woking, Surrey, deny the charges.
The trial continues.

Two people, a man aged 46 and a 45-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have both been bailed pending further inquiries, police said.

Pair charged with murdering teenager in Sheffield hit-and-run "highly likely" to deny it, judge says
Two men who are charged with murdering a 16-year-old pedestrian in a hit-and-run in Sheffield were "highly likely" to deny the charge, a judge has said. Abdullah Yaser Abduallah Al Yazidi died after being struck by an Audi car when walking along Staniforth Road in the Darnall area of Sheffield on Wednesday 4 June. Zulkernain Ahmed, 20, and Armaan Ahmed, 26, did not enter any pleas when they briefly appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday 10 June. Judge Jeremy Ricahrdson KC said he had been told both men were "highly likely to plead not guilty" to the murder charge. The pair, both of Locke Drive, Darnall, were remanded into custody and a further hearing has been set for 3 October. Police said officers understood that the car had driven towards three electric bikes during the incident, crashing into one rider. The 18-year-old man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. Relatives of Abdullah, better known as Abdul, said he had been in the UK for a few months after arriving from Yemen "for a better future". His relative Saleh Alsirkal said: "His dad brought him over to change his life, to get a better future for his son, but this has happened and destroyed everything." Mr Alsirkal said Adbullah was a "kind boy" who was enjoying learning English ahead of starting at college in September. He added that the teenager just wanted to look after his family, including his three sisters. A 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.
