Kuwait Sets Strict Vehicle Decoration Rules for National Day Celebrations

Arab Times23-02-2025

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: As Kuwait prepares to celebrate its National and Liberation Day holidays, the General Traffic Department has issued strict guidelines for decorating vehicles, emphasizing safety and adherence to traffic laws. These measures aim to ensure that celebrations do not compromise road safety or obstruct traffic movement.
According to the directives, motorists are strictly prohibited from tinting or placing stickers on the front or rear windows of their vehicles, as this can obstruct visibility and increase the risk of accidents. Additionally, covering the original color of the vehicle with stickers, wraps, or any other materials is not allowed. Authorities have also emphasized that front and rear license plates must remain uncovered and fully visible at all times to facilitate identification and compliance with traffic regulations.
The guidelines further prohibit the installation of flags or masts outside the vehicle body, as these can pose a significant danger to other road users. Improperly secured flags may detach while driving, creating hazards for pedestrians and other motorists.
The Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector has urged all citizens and residents to abide by these regulations to maintain road safety and prevent unnecessary disruptions. Violators may face fines or legal consequences for non-compliance. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that national holiday celebrations are enjoyed responsibly while prioritizing public safety and smooth traffic flow.

The recent campaigns resulted in the issuance of 18,488 traffic tickets, referral of 49 juveniles to the Juvenile Prosecution, and referral of 48 individuals to traffic police stations. According to the weekly statistics of the department, 32 vehicles and four motorcycles were impounded, 88 individuals were arrested, including those who violated the Residency Law and failed to present a valid proof of residence, and confiscation of 133 wanted vehicles. The statistics indicated that the department dealt with 1,327 traffic accidents, including 195 collisions and injuries. Meanwhile, Acting Director of the Traffic Awareness Department at the General Traffic Department, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Buhassan announced that field monitoring and official statistics reveal a significant weekly decrease in traffic violations, particularly following the implementation of the new traffic law. He indicated that field traffic sectors recorded 18,000 violations last week, down from approximately 60,000 per week before the new traffic law was implemented. Lieutenant Colonel Buhassan attributed this decline to increased discipline among road users and their adherence to the new laws. He highlighted the Ministry of Interior's vision and the political leadership's support for the amendments to the new traffic law. Lieutenant Colonel Buhassan said he expects a significant decline in traffic violations and accidents in the coming period, due to the clear commitment of citizens and residents to the new traffic law.

Driving Licenses of Ineligible Expats Cancelled Under New Enforcement Measures

KUWAIT CITY, May 27: The General Traffic Department has begun canceling driving licenses for expatriates who no longer meet eligibility criteria such as minimum salary or valid residency status, thanks to automated data-sharing systems. The source warned that individuals caught driving with a revoked license will be treated as unlicensed drivers and referred to legal authorities. Expatriates are advised to regularly verify the validity of their driving licenses via their Kuwait Mobile ID or the 'Sahel' app, as being unaware of the status will not absolve them of legal responsibility. Notably, ministerial guidelines continue to outline specific categories of residents exempt from the standard conditions for obtaining a driving license, including salary, duration of stay, and academic qualification.
