The Columbus forward was presented the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy by none other than Meredith Gaudreau, Johnny's widow.
'When I was asked to be part of this surprise I was so honoured, so excited,' Meredith said in the clip shared by the NHL on X. 'Sean stood by my side for every tribute, every walkout. I dragged him out there to cry with me on national TV so many times.
'But I'm excited about this one because this one celebrates Sean.'
Gaudreau went to Monahan's Toronto-area home to drop off the trophy – a clear surprise to Monahan who was seen checking through a window after Meredith rang the doorbell.
Gaudreau revealed that she enlisted the help of Sean's wife, Brittany, into helping him think they were doing family photos that day to distract him.

ESPN's ᴀʀᴅᴀ Öᴄᴀʟ @Arda If the Panthers win this series Brad Marchand is getting a statue in Sunrise of him eating a Blizzard out of the Cup Hockey commentator Gino Hard @GinoHard_ Brad barely even get a SHOT off, it just went right through Skinner 😵 Oilers fan Stu The Penguin @StuThePenguin I have no idea how Stu let this in. Oilers fan Rob Soria @Oil_Drop Been two great games. Hope the Oilers stop going to Connor and Leon so early, as the other lines aren't as good when they do. Would seriously consider Skinner but probably won't happen in Game 3. All things considered, can't be disappointed. Oilers fan Mark 📸 @TheLineBlender Well, just a thought, maybe you play your offensive finisher next game. Those bottom 5 forwards looked bad, and generally lack finish. Oilers fan Den Polland @oilersgm2 Wasn't supposed to be easy. Toronto commentator Ken Campbell @Ken_Campbell27 Oilers got all of Evan Bouchard tonight. A goal and two assists, a host of bad plays then just simply gave up on the overtime winner. Florida sports media director Will Manso @WillManso After all that, the Panthers did exactly what they needed to do in Edmonton. Win one and head back home with home ice advantage. Sportsnet's Kelly Hrudey I saw so mamy mistakes in overtime. It was getting worse and worse. They are trying so hard but they are tired. And I think that goal that Skinner gave up was because of fatigue. When Marchand kind of loses control, you use the paddle down and you can usually seal that off. But I think it just snuck through because he was tired. Sportsnet's Kevin Bieksa This series should be one-one going back to Florida given how even it's been with every aspect of the game. Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer @Bob_Stauffer Another epic tilt. The Edmonton Oilers didn't get the last bounce. 2 evenly-matched teams. 99 hits. 9 goals. Connor McDavid 0-3-3, Evan Bouchard 1-2-3, Draisaitl 1-1-2 paced EDM's attack. Perry forced OT with 18 seconds left. Off to Florida. EDM 6-3 on the road in the Playoffs. The Cult of Hockey's David Staples A great game, another one. Tough break in OT as Oilers were exhausted from Ekholm and Draisaitl to Bouchard and Skinner. No gas left and the most critical break of the game went to Florida's Marchand. In the end, the Rat trumps the Worm. Olympics NHL Toronto & GTA Toronto & GTA Columnists
