Man dies after car parking lift collapses at residential building in Mumbai's Borivali West
A man died and another suffered injuries after a car parking lift collapsed at a 21-storey residential building in Mumbai's Borivali West area on Saturday, civic officials said.
The accident took place around 11 am at the Prathamesh Building, located on Link Road, according to a PTI news agency report, which cited Mumbai Fire Brigade. The car lift fell into a 7-metre-deep pit, trapping two persons.

The victims, 30-year-old Shubham Madamlal Dhuri and 45-year-old Sunjeet Yadav, were rescued by firefighters and rushed to the nearby BMC-run Shatabdi Hospital.

'As per the information received from the hospital's attending medical officer, Dhuri was declared 'brought dead'. Yadav, who sustained a head injury, is in a stable condition,' an official said.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, they added.
In an unrelated case, a 35-year-old woman, Naziya Khan, died from injuries she sustained on when the fifth floor balcony of the Ashraf Manzil building in Byculla West fell on her earlier this week.

After the top floor balcony collapsed, the Mumbai Fire Brigade rescued Khan and admitted her to the civic run Nair Hospital. She had multiple injuries, head and chest trauma and was declared dead two days after the incident, on May 30.
The fifth-floor balcony of the Aashraf Manzil had collapsed on Wednesday causing debris to pile up on the second floor balcony and the building's compound.
Another woman who suffered injuries was also taken to the Nair hospital by locals. She is in a stable condition, officials told HT.
The building was under Maharashtra housing and development authority's (MHADA) cessed category, indicating it was old, rent-controlled, and built before 1969.

The investigation further revealed that the men perpetrated the crime with her mother's consent and in her presence, adding that they also threatened to kill the minor's father if she disclosed it to anyone. A case was registered against the trio under BNS Sections 70 (2) (gang-rape), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (criminal act) by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) and relevant sections of the POCSO Act. Gujarat Congress leader arrested for alleged ‘morale-breaking' posts about Operation Sindoor
Gujarat Congress leader Rajesh Soni was arrested on Friday for posting allegedly misleading and 'morale-breaking' content about Operation Sindoor on social media, PTI reported. Soni was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to acts endangering India's sovereignty, unity and integrity, and statements conducing to public mischief, PTI quoted Superintendent of Police (CID-Cyber Crime) Bharatsinh Tank as saying. The first information report in the matter was filed based on a complaint by a sub-inspector in Gandhinagar's cybercrime cell. Soni had shared videos and images on Facebook relating to Operation Sindoor, the Rafale deal and other sensitive matters, The New Indian Express quoted the complaint as having alleged. It also alleged that Soni's social media posts were meant to undermine the morale of the Indian Army, cast doubt on its duties, erode public trust in the armed forces and raise alarm about national security. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated on May 7 when the Indian military carried out strikes – codenamed Operation Sindoor – on what it claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were in response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 persons on April 22. The Pakistan Army retaliated to Indian strikes by repeatedly shelling Indian villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defence personnel were killed in the shelling. The sides on May 10 reached an 'understanding' to halt firing following the four-day conflict. The complainant alleged that the posts 'dampen the Indian Army's enthusiasm, sow doubt about their duty and diminish' public trust. Soni had only remarked that 'our brave Army men should get the credit for the bravery they have shown and the money from the government treasury should not be used for publicity, and political mileage should not be taken' in the name of Operation Sindoor, Gohil said on social media. 'Seeing the way the government is doing publicity, they [citizens] have expressed concern that the soldiers will not get the credit,' Gohil said. 'If they only raise their voice for the Army or express their concern that they will not get the credit, how can it be a crime?'

Lucknow: Man accused of raping 3-year-old killed in gunfight with police
A man, accused of raping a three-year-old girl, was killed in a gunfight with Lucknow police on Friday, The Indian Express reported. The man, identified as Deepak Verma, had allegedly abducted the minor while she was asleep with her parents near Alambagh metro station in Lucknow district the previous night, the newspaper reported. On Thursday, the parents filed a complaint at the Alambagh Police Station alleging that their daughter was raped, PTI reported. After a case was registered, five police teams were formed to probe the incident, the news agency quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Ashish Srivastava as saying. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was also declared for any information leading to the arrest of the accused, who worked as a water vendor in the area. The accused was reportedly identified through the registration number of the vehicle he used during the alleged crime. The number was captured on a security camera at the Alambagh metro station. A police team went to his house but did not find him there, The Indian Express reported. The police, later, received information that Verma was trying to flee the district. A team reached the spot and tried to stop him, but the accused opened fire, PTI quoted Srivastava as saying. The police team fired in retaliation and Verma was injured in the exchange. He was taken to hospital where he died during treatment, Lucknow Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Mamta Rani Chaudhary told The Indian Express.
