WNBA Sends Strong Message on Brittney Griner
Veteran center Brittney Griner made her Atlanta Dream preseason debut Wednesday against the Washington Mystics. It's hard imagining it going any better.
While playing just 19 minutes, Griner scored 16 points while shooting 7 of 11. Griner sunk her two 3-point attempts and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

For good measure, she added three assists and a block.
After the performance, the official WNBA X (formerly Twitter) account sent Griner major props for the way she played in her Dream preseason debut.
"BG turned up the heat in her first run with the Dream!" the WNBA account posted.
"From dominating in the paint to knocking down threes, she did it all!"

With Griner on the court, the Dream outscored the Mystics by 21 points.
The Dream won the preseason matchup 80-70.
Griner is 34 years old, but if Wednesday's game is any indication, she will be a force for the Dream this season.
The Dream announced on Feb. 1 the team signed Griner in free agency. The nine-time All-Star spent the first 12 years of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury.

Last season, Griner averaged 17.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. The two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year also averaged 1.5 blocks per contest.
The Dream will host the Indiana Fever in another preseason matchup Saturday. Atlanta will open the regular season on the road against the Mystics on Friday, May 16.
Griner will play her first home regular season game with the Dream on Thursday, May 22.
Griner and the Dream will visit her former home and the Mercury for the first time on July 23.

Caitlin Clark's Former Teammate Lands New Team After 0 Minutes with Indiana Fever
Caitlin Clark's Former Teammate Lands New Team After 0 Minutes with Indiana Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The WNBA season is just a few weeks old, and already roster moves are shaking things up. Early-season injuries and teams reassessing their needs have sparked a wave of changes. Advertisement One of the more recent players on the move is Jaelyn Brown, a teammate of Caitlin Clark for about three months. Despite her time on the roster, Brown never played a single minute for the Indiana Fever. Clark is sidelined with an injury, but Brown didn't get the chance to step in. She was waived by Indiana on May 13, four days before the Fever's first regular-season game and three months after being acquired in a Feb. 2 trade with the Dallas Wings. On Monday morning, the Connecticut Sun announced a new addition to their roster: "ROSTER UPDATE: Connecticut Sun Sign Jaelyn Brown." Brown, who went undrafted after her college career with California Golden Bears, was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 in her senior season. That year, she averaged 15.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Advertisement Since college, Brown has played internationally with stints in France, Sweden, Turkey, Hungary, Mexico and Israel. In February 2024, she landed a training camp contract with the Dallas Wings. She appeared in 14 games for the Wings, starting once, and averaged 2.6 points per game. Former Indiana Fever guard Jaelyn Smith-USA TODAY Network via Imagn Images Connecticut is hoping Brown can help them turn things around offensively. The Sun rank dead last in the WNBA in scoring at just 70.9 points per game. They're also struggling with efficiency, shooting just 39.6 percent from the field. Rebounding hasn't been much better, as they're also last in that category at 31.3 boards per game. Brown joins the Sun following a tough 48-point loss to the New York Liberty on Sunday. She'll look to make her debut Friday when Connecticut hosts the Atlanta Dream. Caitlin Clark Had One Word for Sophie Cunningham on Tuesday
Caitlin Clark Had One Word for Sophie Cunningham on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark is currently working through her second season in the WNBA. Clark started the season with the Indiana Fever as one of the WNBA's biggest stars, having established herself as an elite guard in her first year. Advertisement Indiana began the season with a 2-2 record, led by Clark. The former WNBA All-Star then suffered a left quadriceps injury and was thus sidelined for the past two games. Now, the Fever sits at 2-4 on the season, looking to bounce back from a three-game losing streak. As Clark works her way through the rehab process, slowly making her way back into the lineup, she's been active on social media. On Tuesday, on Instagram, Clark shared a hilarious photo of Jim Carrey from the movie "Dumb and Dumber" and wrote: "Sophie." Sophie Cunningham, Instagram Sophie Cunningham, Instagram Sophie Cunningham has also been on the Indiana Fever's injury report as of late. Wings vs. Storm predictions, odds: WNBA best bets Tuesday
New York Post may be compensated and/or receive an affiliate commission if you click or buy through our links. Featured pricing is subject to change. Successfully handicapping requires the ability to attack games from all angles. A bettor needs all the options of a tool belt because good opportunities do present themselves, and one must be able to recognize and seize them. The WNBA has a relatively long regular season with 44 games and the ebb and flow can provide an attractive angle, which is what I believe we have Tuesday. The Seattle Storm are 9.5-point home favorites to the Dallas Wings, who will play without standout rookie Paige Bueckers. The former UConn star will miss her second straight game due to a concussion. Bueckers ranks fourth in the WNBA with 6.7 assists per game, and her absence will certainly impact a 1-6 Dallas squad that already has plenty of limitations. That also means Arike Ogunbowale likely will look to shoot even more, as she hoisted 16 attempts in the most recent game (also without Bueckers). Kaila Charles #3 of the Dallas Wings. NBAE via Getty Images Her reckless approach often hurts the team, but there is always potential she catches fire. The scheduling spot does provide a good opportunity to back Seattle, which is riding a three-game losing streak. The Storm are a playoff-caliber team that figures to bounce back against such a weak squad, but the point spread is the great equalizer, and Ogunbowale's variance gives me pause. The Wings own the league's third-worst defensive rating, and wagering on Seattle's team total makes a lot more sense. This ensures Ogunbowale's shotmaking does not enter the equation. However, with the potential of a blowout, I worry the scoring will die down in the second half. In fact, that's exactly what happened in the first meeting, when Seattle led 56-41 at halftime and held on for a 79-71 victory. Betting on the NBA? I have a 45-39-1 ATS record in this Post sports section, and my next play is the Storm Over 43.5 points in the first half. I expect a strong start against a poor Wings defense, and I do not have to worry about a slow-paced second half.
