Police have released images of man they want to trace after a brutal 2am assault on a busy Edinburgh street. Do you recognise him?
Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace after a serious assault on a busy Edinburgh street.
The incident happened around 2.05am on Saturday, April 26, on Lothian Road in the capital.
Officers believe the man in the images could help with their investigation into the violent attack.
He is described as being of South Asian appearance, slim build, 5ft 6in to 5ft 9in tall, and in his late teens to early twenties, with short dark hair.
At the time of the assault, he was wearing a dark hooded jacket, dark trousers, and dark trainers.
Detective Constable Christopher Stewart said: 'I would urge this man, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward and contact us as soon as possible.
'We're also appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information that could help our investigation, to get in touch.'

Perth road closed after car lands on roof
A road in Perth has been closed after a car landed on its roof. Glengarry Road has been taped off and police officers remain at the scene after a white Vauxhall Mokka flipped onto its roof. The crash happened just before 8pm. A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: 'We received the call at 7.56pm to assist police with a crash. 'One appliance was dispatched from Perth Fire Station. 'We made the vehicle safe before the stop message came at 8.18pm.' An eyewitness said: 'It seems to have hit the parked Ford Fiesta on the road and flipped.' A resident on Glengarry Road added: 'I didn't see the crash but my security cameras on the house captured it in picture frames. 'It happened just before 8pm. 'You can see the skid marks on the road too. 'We have no clue how it landed on its roof.' It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the crash. Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft and public order, before a man in his 30s was detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and possession of Class A drugs. Two men aged 18 and 19 have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. The 16-year-old girl – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and has been bailed to appear at court at a future date after being arrested earlier on Wednesday. Superintendent Marcus Noden, of Greater Manchester Police, said: 'I wanted to provide a further update into the disorder in Salford this afternoon, I would like to stress that there have been no further incidents since our last update. 'We have robust plans in place should any further incidents arise in the area, and we will take action like we did earlier on in the day, should we need to. 'A dispersal order remains in place in Salford until 2pm tomorrow afternoon (Thursday June 12 2025) and anyone who does not abide by the law, will be dealt with.'

BREAKING NEWS Mum and her 10-year-old son allegedly stabbed in horrific road rage attack in Wollongong
A woman will face court today after allegedly stabbing a young mother and her 10-year-old son in a violent roadside altercation in Wollongong. According to police, a 27-year-old woman was driving with her two children, aged 10 and three on West Dapto Road, when they were allegedly forced to stop by another vehicle. The driver of the second car, a 59-year-old woman known to the family, reportedly got out and approached their vehicle, sparking a heated confrontation. The older woman allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the young mother and her 10-year-old son. Both victims suffered serious stab wounds and were treated on the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to hospital. Authorities confirmed that both remain in serious but stable condition. The woman's three-year-old son, who was also in the car, escaped unharmed and is now in the care of a family member. Lake Illawarra Police District officers established a crime scene and launched an immediate investigation. At around 6.30pm police descended on a home in nearby Horsley, where they arrested the 59-year-old suspect. She was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The accused was refused bail and is set to appear before Wollongong Local Court today. Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage related to the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
