Contiki expands its roster of African safaris for young travelers
Contiki, a tour operator specializing in trips for travelers ages 18 to 35, is expanding its Africa portfolio with four new itineraries.
Contiki says itineraries in South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Eswatini deliver "the classic safari experience with added adrenaline and cultural immersion, without the premium price tag."
The tour operator said there's a rise in demand for travel to Africa, with year-over-year bookings up 11% for Tanzania and 46% for Eswatini.
"One of the standout features of these trips is that the entire group travels together in a single custom safari vehicle, which adds to the game-viewing experience, helping travelers see over the long grass for full views," said Kyle Junkuhn, a safari guide and Contiki's operations manager in Africa.
The "Kenya & Tanzania Adventure" itinerary covers five national parks in 11 days, including the Maasai Mara and Amboseli. Travelers will take a hot-air balloon ride over the plains. The trip begins in Nairobi and ends in Arusha.
The "Kenya Adventure" itinerary begins and ends in Nairobi, taking travelers to five cities in six days. Itinerary highlights include game drives to see the "Big Five," mountain biking, a hot-air balloon ride and whitewater rafting.
The "Tanzania Adventure" itinerary visits six cities in six days and includes exploring the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. The trip includes daily game drives, and travelers can go on treetop walks, cultural village visits and a night safari to spy big cats after dark.
The itineraries include a custom overland vehicle and premium campsite accommodations. Tents will be pre-assembled by the team with amenities taken care of, the company said. The itineraries will be led by trip managers who are trained safari guides. There also will be a driver and a chef.
Contiki also launched a new version of its "Cape, Safari & Falls" itinerary called "Cape Town, Kruger & Bushfire Festival." This version includes the MTN Bushfire Festival, one of Africa's biggest music events. The nine-day itinerary features game drives in Kruger National Park and three nights at the Bushfire Festival.

KOA Celebrates National Camping Month and Discusses Outdoor Summer Trends with YourUpdateTV
NEW YORK, June 17, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Whether it's roasting s'mores, swimming under the sun, or sharing stories by the fire, camping remains one of the most beloved summer traditions in America. With June marking National Camping Month, Diane Eichler, Sr. Vice President, Marketing at Kampgrounds of America, participated in a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss why camping remains so popular, sharing memorable campgrounds and experiences throughout the country. Camping Is on the Rise As interest in outdoor travel grows, camping now plays a role in 25% of all leisure trips. In 2024 alone, 11 million more households camped than in 2019. A majority of those new campers' plan to return in 2025, showing that camping is not just a trend – it's a travel shift. And as costs rise, many travelers are turning to camping as a budget-friendly alternative. Nearly 80% of campers say inflation has impacted their travel plans, but instead of canceling trips, they're adapting. In fact, 72% see camping as a budget-friendly way to travel—especially families looking to make their dollars go further. Wellness, Nostalgia, and New Traditions This year, camping is seeing a rise in wellness-focused travel. Forty-two percent of campers say they use camping to improve their mental well-being, and many are seeking 'wellness by water'—choosing lakeside escapes, beach camping, or quiet riverside retreats. Nostalgia is also shaping camping trends, with more campers prioritizing the basics: tent camping, storytelling, and unplugging from tech. More Than Just a Tent KOA's network of over 500 campgrounds across North America offers more than the traditional tent experience. From full-hookup RV sites and Deluxe Cabins with bathrooms and kitchens, to unique stays like Airstreams, glamping tents, and even treehouses, there's a way to camp for every preference. KOA also offers kid-friendly activities, swimming pools, KampK9® dog parks, and organized events that make camping fun and easy for the whole family. Hundreds of Brits face summer holiday cancellations after travel company collapses
Hundreds of British travellers may have their summer holidays cancelled after a UK travel provider lost a key license on Friday. As of 13 June, operations by Great Little Escapes are no longer protected by an Air Travel Organiser's Licence (Atol). The company's Facebook page says the brand formerly offered 'holidays to the most iconic cities in the world'. A notice from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that the company based in Sandhurst, Berkshire, ceased trading as an Atol holder on 13 June 2025. The Air Travel Organisers' Licence is a financial protection scheme run by the CAA for package holidays sold by tour operators in the UK. Under the scheme, if a firm goes out of business, your booking will be refunded. According to Companies House, the travel provider has been operational since September 2002. Great Little Escapes also traded under the names Your Holidays, Great Little Escapes, Tunisia First and websites and said the CAA. It added: 'We are currently collating information from the company and will update this page as soon as possible.' Customers of Great Little Escapes are advised not to submit a claim before the CAA has finished gathering information. The closure comes just two months after operations by Balkan Holidays shut in the UK, with 'all forward holiday bookings' cancelled after almost 60 years of trading. The travel provider started operations in 1966 with summer holidays to Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Malta and northern Cyprus, as well as winter ski trips, on offer to travellers. In March, Jetline Holidays ceased trading as an Atol holder, raising doubts on whether trip bookings – specifically cruises –would still be valid. Princess, Cunard and Holland America were among the affected cruise holidays, most of which were cancelled due to a 'breach of contract' with the former travel operator. The Carnival brand cruise lines said in a statement: 'We recognise how disappointing this news will be for affected guests and express our sincere apologies for the disruption caused. This decision was not made lightly.'
