Lawyers for Liberal MP Moira Deeming have filed a bankruptcy notice against Victoria's former Liberal leader John Pesutto. It comes after he failed to pay a $2.3 million legal bill for losing a defamation case in 2024. He has 21 days to pay, enter a payment plan or declare bankruptcy. Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett has asked his party to cover the debt. Declaring bankruptcy will axe Mr Pesutto from parliament, triggering a by-election in the marginal seat of Hawthorn.
