Charles Barkley said Johni Broome can beat him as Auburn's best player ever
Auburn basketball star Johni Broome is one of the best players competing in March Madness and he received some high praise from Charles Barkley.
Broome averaged 18.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game as a senior for Auburn this season. He helped lead Auburn (28-5) to become a No. 1 seed in the southern region of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
The big man was named SEC Player of the Year and he was named a unanimous collegiate All-American. He projects well as a future pro and has earned the respect of Barkley, who is is an analyst for the tournament with Turner Sports.
Barkley, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 1984 NBA Draft, was a standout star at Auburn as well.
He was named SEC Tournament MVP and Player of the Year in 1984 before he turned pro.
According to Barkley, though, Broome can become the greatest player in Auburn basketball history if he wins a national championship this season. He also added that Broome is "better" than he was during college.
This speaks well to Broome's talent and what he can potentially accomplish during the Big Dance.

(CCU SID) — Coastal Carolina University Baseball is headed to the Men's College World Series for the second time after sweeping the Auburn Super Regional with a 4-1 victory over the fourth-seeded Tigers on Saturday inside Plainsman Park. The No. 13 Chanticleers (53-11) won their 23rd-straight game and swept a ninth-consecutive weekend series. Tied 1-1 in the seventh, Sebastian Alexander sparked a rally with a leadoff double. The Chanticleers swept the Tigers in their home regional to advance. Auburn held a 1-0 lead until the seventh inning when Coastal Carolina broke through for three runs. Sebastian Alexander hit a leadoff double and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Blake Barthol. Walker Mitchell followed up with an RBI single to tie the score at 1-1. The Wolverines had a solid month on the recruiting trail in May, and they are hoping to see the momentum carry over into the summer. One player that is high on Michigan is four-star defensive lineman Alister Vallejo. Vallejo is down to three schools: Michigan, Notre Dame and Kansas. Alister Vallejo is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #203 player in the 2026 class, the #32 DL and the #31 player in the state of Texas. Vallejo currently attends Liberty Hill High School in Liberty Hill, TX. Kansas is closest to home, but Michigan and Notre Dame have better football programs. Advertisement 'Verifiably big with requisite frame to survive and potentially thrive in the trenches at the high-major level,' Vallejo's scouting report reads. The Michigan football team is hoping for a big summer on the recruiting trail, and it could very well include a commitment from Alister Vallejo. That would help the Wolverines finish with another top-10 recruiting class.
