New kidney centre opens in Saham
SAHAM: A new Kidney Centre was opened in the Wilayat of Saham under the auspices of Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, on Sunday.
Dr Khalid bin Said al Saadi, Director-General of Health Services in Al Batinah North Governorate, said that the opening of the Kidney Centre in the Wilayat of Saham will bring about a qualitative shift in healthcare services in the Wilayat of Saham due to its modern facilities and qualified human resources and will make healthcare services accessible and affordable.
He added that the new Kidney Centre will be an important addition to the governorate's health services and will meet the increasing need for high-quality healthcare services for patients suffering from kidney diseases.
Al Saadi extended his thanks and appreciation to those who supported the project for the generous donation.
The centre was built on an area of 850 square metres at a cost exceeding RO 800,000. It will provide dialysis services to more than patients at a rate of 3 dialysis sessions per week for each patient. It also includes 18 beds, in addition to a section for women and men, a waiting room, among other facilities.

Oman wins award for providing good service to Hajj pilgrims
Makkah: The Sultanate of Oman has bagged the Health Competence Commitment Award offered by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the Annual Misk closing ceremony. The ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah on the premises of the ministry in Makkah in cooperation with the Guests of Allah Service Programme to honour the Hajj Affairs Offices and the non-profit parties which excelled in serving pilgrims during the Hajj season 1446 H. The award was offered to the Sultanate of Oman's Hajj Mission for the quality health services offered to the pilgrims from the Sultanate of Oman. The Hajj mission of the Sultanate of Oman is annually accompanied by a health delegation with specialised medical cadres; nurses, pharmacists and other personnel from the Ministry of Health. The delegation sets up a clinic to offer integrated health services for the pilgrims in direct coordination with their counterparts from the departments concerned in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabia'a, gave away the document of the initial preparations for the Hajj affairs offices for the upcoming Hajj season 1447 H. It is an early step to raise the level of readiness and improvement of the facilities for the guests of Allah. In his speech, the Minister praised the government and the civilian efforts with the Hajj affairs offices, which had a great impact on the success of the hajj season for 1446 H.

Call to make premarital screening compulsory gains pace in Oman
Ibri – Ministry of Health held a seminar in Ibri, Dhahirah on Tuesday highlighting the vital role of premarital medical screening in building healthy families and raising community awareness. Held under the theme 'Premarital Medical Screening: A Step Towards Building a Healthy Family and an Informed Society', the seminar formed part of National Premarital Screening Programme to promote awareness on premarital testing. It was organised by the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhahirah and held under the patronage of Najib bin Ali al Rawas, Governor of Dhahirah. The seminar underscored the need to intensify awareness campaigns targeting youth and those preparing for marriage, and called for making premarital screening a mandatory requirement. Participants also recommended the establishment of dedicated counseling sessions to help prospective couples understand and manage test results in a scientific and compassionate manner. Emphasis was placed on upholding confidentiality and privacy of test results, and on preventing any misuse of such information. Inclusion of premarital screening topics in school curricula from Grades 10 to 12 and at the university level was also proposed to promote early awareness, foster scientific research, and reduce the incidence of genetic diseases. These initiatives align with Oman Vision 2040 objectives for public health and quality of life, focusing on prevention and community wellbeing. Dr Ahmed bin Saeed al Kalbani, Director General of Health Services in Dhahirah, described premarital screening as a cornerstone to preventing hereditary diseases, and a proactive step that can spare families long-term suffering. The seminar featured several presentations by specialists on the medical, social and legal aspects of screening. Prof Dr Salam bin Salem al Kindi, Senior Consultant of Hematology at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, reviewed key genetic diseases covered by the National Premarital Screening Programme. Dr Sarah bint Nasser al Waili, Director of Primary Healthcare Department, outlined the objectives and implementation mechanisms of the National Premarital Screening Programme.

85% work on new Khasab Hospital completed
KHASAB: The overall completion rate of the new Khasab Hospital in Musandam Governorate has surpassed 85 per cent. The project is being constructed on a 100,000-square-metre plot, with a built-up area of 36,000 square metres and a total cost exceeding RO 48 million. With a capacity of 164 beds, the hospital will enhance healthcare services in the governorate. Eng Yousef bin Yaqoob Amboali, Director-General of Projects and Engineering Services at the Ministry of Health, stated that the new Khasab Hospital in Musandam Governorate is among the key developmental health projects in the governorate and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. He added that the hospital will include an emergency and accident unit, radiology department, nephrology unit, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation unit, intensive care units, maternity and neonatal care department, day surgery unit, administrative offices, meeting halls, a central sterilisation department and inpatient wards, along with general services. It is worth noting that once operational, the new Khasab Hospital will provide a range of specialised medical services to meet the treatment needs of citizens and residents, alleviating the burden of travelling to other governorates. - ONA
