As Elon Musk, Trump fight on Twitter, here's a look back at SpaceX CEO's visits to Mar-a-Lago

From bromance to nomance: The Donald Trump-Elon Musk fight is on. The SpaceX CEO and owner of social media site X posted a "big bomb" tweet linking President Donald Trump with the infamous Jeffrey Epstein files and ending the post with a passive-aggressive farewell. On June 5, Musk posted: "Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" Within 17 minutes, the tweet had 6.8 million views, 132,000 likes, 63,000 retweets and 34,000 comments on X. Trump did not stay silent, firing back on social media: "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!" In another tweet, Trump states: "Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!" How did it get to this point? Musk, the Tesla CEO, was critical of Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," a tax bill that narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 22. At more than 1,000 pages long, the Big Beautiful Bill Act will now move on to the Senate. Musk also left his post with the Trump administration — leading the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE. Less than six months ago, Musk appeared at Trump's Inauguration Day events and has since held press conferences in the Oval Office at the White House and even flown aboard Air Force One to Trump's private club, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. On some occasions, his son, Little X Musk, accompanied him on these high-profile visits with Trump. Below is a roundup of the times Elon Musk, SpaceX and Tesla CEO, has visited Mar-a-Lago. When Trump was president from 2017 to 2021, Mar-a-Lago became known as the 'Southern White House' or the "Winter White House" because of his frequent trips there. It's a private club so generally Mar-a-Lago is not open to the public. Mar-a-Lago closes on Mother's Day after the traditional final brunch of the social season and reopens on Halloween. At 17 acres, Mar-a-Lago is a big estate, but there's a lot going on there. The private club has 500 members. Amenities include tennis, the Beach Club, croquet court and a spa. The exact size of the living quarters of Mar-a-Lago isn't known — but it is speculated to be somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet, according to Palm Beach Post and Palm Beach Daily News coverage. So far, Trump has spent all but three weekends of his second presidency in Florida, skipping out on Easter weekend at Mar-a-Lago for the first time in years. On two of the weekends that he returned home, there were nationwide Donald Trump-Elon Musk protests, with some down the road from Mar-a-Lago. Since Jan. 20, Trump has visited his home state of Florida 11 times and his Mar-a-Lago estate 10 times. Here's a recap: Weekend of Jan. 24, 2025, marked Trump's first return to Florida since Inauguration Day. Trump spoke at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Florida — days after Inauguration Day events and the same weekend as Donald and Melania Trump's 20th wedding anniversary. The couple married Jan. 25, 2005, in Palm Beach with a reception at Mar-a-Lago. Weekend of Jan. 31, 2025, marked Trump's second return to Florida and his first trip home to Mar-a-Lago as the 47th president of the United States. Weekend of Feb. 7, 2025, marked Trump's third visit to Florida and his second visit to Mar-a-Lago. He typically attends an annual Super Bowl watch party at Trump International Palm Beach Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Instead, he made history by becoming the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl. Donald Trump Jr., three of his children, girlfriend Bettina Anderson, Ivanka Trump and her son Theo Kushner, and Eric and Lara Trump also attended Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Weekend of Feb. 14, 2025, marked Trump's fourth visit to Florida and his third visit to Mar-a-Lago. Following Super Bowl weekend, he attended the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, with Eric and Lara Trump and their two children, Luke and Carolina Trump. Donald Trump also celebrated Presidents' Day, as he typically does, at Mar-a-Lago. Weekend of Feb. 28, 2025, marked Trump's fifth visit to Florida and his fourth visit to Mar-a-Lago. Trump's time in Florida the weekend of Feb. 28 was book-ended by two controversial moments. Before he left for Florida, he had a tense meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. And as he prepared to fly to Palm Beach, controversial influencer and self-described misogynist Andrew Tate and his brother landed in nearby Fort Lauderdale, after the Trump administration allegedly pressured Romania to lift the brothers' travel ban, due to crimes they've been charged with in Romania. Weekend of March 7, 2025, marked Trump's sixth visit to Florida and his fifth visit to Mar-a-Lago. First lady Melania Trump's father Viktor Knavs and Elon Musk accompanied Trump on Air Force One to Palm Beach. Weekend of March 14, 2025, marked Trump's seventh visit to Florida and his sixth visit to Mar-a-Lago, right before St. Patrick's Day and ahead of the birthdays of his youngest son Barron Trump and father-in-law Viktor Knavs. Elon Musk and his son, Little X Musk, accompanied Donald Trump on Air Force One to Palm Beach. Weekend of March 28, 2025, marked Trump's eighth visit to Florida and his seventh visit to Mar-a-Lago. He arrived on the heels of a scandal involving security officials in his administration — including Florida's Marco Rubio and Mike Waltz — who mistakenly added a journalist to a group chat in which they were planning U.S. attacks on Iranian-backed forces in Yemen. A "Saturday Night Live" cold open skit with Oscar winner Mikey Madison poked fun of the texting chat. Weekend of April 3, 2025, marked Trump's ninth visit to Florida and his eighth visit to Mar-a-Lago. On this weekend, Trump managed a golf trifecta — he attended, played or competed at all three of his Trump National Golf Club sites in Florida. Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, where he appeared, also hosted the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tournament that weekend. On April 5 and April 6, 2025, protesters converged in about 1,300 Trump-Elon Musk "Hands Off, Fight Back" rallies nationwide, with 45 in Florida alone and some down the road from Mar-a-Lago. Weekend of April 11, 2025, marked Trump's 10th visit to his home state and his ninth visit to Mar-a-Lago. Trump was the named keynote speaker and DOGE chief Elon Musk was slated to receive an award at a Palm Beach County Republicans event at Mar-a-Lago. Trump arrived aboard Air Force One with Elon Musk and his young son, Little X Musk. Together, they rode the presidential limousine, known as The Beast, to Mar-a-Lago. Weekend of May 1, 2025, marked Trump's 11th (and final) visit to his home state and the 10th visit to Mar-a-Lago since he was sworn in. Vice President JD Vance also flew in to Palm Beach via Air Force Two but left the state before Trump's arrival. For a second time, Trump returned to his home state the same weekend there were nationwide rallies and protests aimed at Trump and Musk. Since President Donald Trump's second term started Jan. 20, 2025, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has visited his home and private club, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, a number of times. Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced a fundraising weekend raising $4.3 million at its annual Wine, Women and Shoes benefit event with surprise visits from President Donald Trump and SpaceX, Tesla CEO Elon Musk along with Big Dog Ranch Rescue board member and host Lara Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, on March 1 and March 2, 2025. Shown are Lara Trump and veteran John Wayne in support of veteran service dog training program. Since Jan. 20, Donald Trump has visited his home state of Florida 11 times and his Mar-a-Lago estate 10 times, sometimes with Elon Musk deplaning from Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport. Elon Musk has accompanied the president to Palm Beach via Air Force One more times than first lady Melania Trump and their only child Barron Trump. In fact, the last official appearance with Donald Trump, Melania Trump and Barron Trump on board Air Force One together from Palm Beach International Airport was ahead of Inauguration Day festivities. President Donald Trump threatens to cut Elon Musk's government contracts as their public feud escalates

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump threatened to cut Elon Musk's government contracts as their fractured alliance rapidly escalated into a public feud Thursday. Hours after Trump lamented his breakup with Musk and said he was 'disappointed' in his former backer and adviser and Musk responded on social media, Trump escalated the feud by threatening to use the U.S. government to hurt Musk's bottom line. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,' Trump wrote on his social media network. 'I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!'WASHINGTON (AP) — The breakup between the president of the United States and the world's richest man is unfurling much like their relationship started — rapidly, intensely and very publicly. As President Donald Trump sat in the Oval Office on Thursday with Germany's leader, he lamented his soured relationship with Elon Musk, his adviser-turned-social media antagonist. Trump said he was 'very disappointed' with Musk after the billionaire former backer lambasted the president's signature bill of tax cuts and spending plans. 'Whatever,' Musk wrote on his social media platform while responding to Trump in real time. Musk later offered up an especially stinging insult to a president sensitive about his standing among voters: 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election,' Musk retorted. 'Such ingratitude,' Musk said in a follow-up post. Politicians and their donor patrons rarely see eye to eye. But the magnitude of Musk's support for Trump, spending at least $250 million backing his campaign, and the scope of free reign the president gave him to slash and delve into the government with the Department of Government Efficiency is eclipsed only by the speed of their falling out. Musk announced his support for Trump shortly after the then-candidate was nearly assassinated on stage at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally last July. News of Musk's political action committee in support of Trump's election came days later. Musk soon became a close adviser and frequent companion, memorably leaping in the air behind Trump on stage at a rally in October. Once Trump was elected, the tech billionaire stood behind him as he took the oath of office, flew with him on Air Force One for weekend stays at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, slept in the White House's Lincoln Bedroom at the president's invitation and joined his Cabinet meetings wearing a MAGA hat (sometimes more than one). 'I'll be honest, I think he missed the place,' Trump said Thursday. 'He got out there, and all of a sudden he wasn't in this beautiful Oval Office.' Musk bid farewell to Trump last week in a subdued news conference in the Oval Office, where he sported a black eye that he said came from his young son but that seemed to be a metaphor for his messy time in government service. Trump, who rarely misses an opportunity to zing his critics on appearance, brought it up Thursday. 'I said, 'Do you want a little makeup? We'll get you a little makeup.' Which is interesting,' Trump said. The Republican president's comments came as Musk has stewed for days on social media about Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill,' warning that it will increase the federal deficit. Musk has called the bill a 'disgusting abomination.' 'He hasn't said bad about me personally, but I'm sure that will be next,' Trump said Thursday in the Oval Office. 'But I'm very disappointed in Elon. I've helped Elon a lot.' Observers had long wondered if the friendship between the two brash billionaires known for lobbing insults online would flame out in spectacular fashion. It did, in less than a year. 'Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore,' Trump said. The president said some people who leave his administration 'miss it so badly' and 'actually become hostile.' 'It's sort of Trump derangement syndrome, I guess they call it,' he said. He brushed aside the billionaire's efforts to get him elected last year, including a $1 million-a-day voter sweepstakes in Pennsylvania. The surge of cash Musk showed he was willing to spend seemed to set him up as a highly coveted ally for Republicans going forward, but his split with Trump, the party's leader, raises questions about whether they or any others will see such a campaign windfall in the future. Trump said Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla, 'only developed a problem' with the bill because it rolls back tax credits for electric vehicles. 'False,' Musk fired back on his social media platform as the president continued speaking. 'This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!' In another post, he said Trump could keep the spending cuts but 'ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill.' The bill would unleash trillions of dollars in tax cuts and slash spending but also spike deficits by $2.4 trillion over a decade and leave some 10.9 million more people without health insurance, according to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, which for decades has served as the official scorekeeper of legislation in Congress. Besides Musk being 'disturbed' by the electric vehicle tax credits, Trump said another point of contention was Musk's promotion of Jared Isaacman to run NASA. Trump withdrew Isaacman's nomination over the weekend, days after Musk left his government role. 'I didn't think it was appropriate,' Trump said, calling Isaacman 'totally a Democrat.' Musk, reverting to his main form of political activity before he joined forces with Trump, continued slinging his responses on social media. He shared some posts Trump made over a decade ago criticizing Republicans for their spending, musings made when he, too, was just a billionaire lobbing his thoughts on social media. 'Where is the man who wrote these words?' Musk wrote. 'Was he replaced by a body double!?'
