Sheffield United ease into Championship playoff final
SHEFFIELD, England, May 12 (Reuters) - Sheffield United cruised into the Championship playoff final after goals from Kieffer Moore, Gustavo Hamer and Callum O'Hare produced a 3-0 win over Bristol City at Bramall Lane on Monday, securing a 6-0 aggregate success in the one-sided semi-final.
United will face the winner of the second semi-final in the May 24 English second-tier playoff decider at Wembley with Sunderland leading Coventry City 2-1 ahead of the second leg of their tie at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.
Moore headed in United's opener in the first half before Hamer's shot took a wicked deflection and wrong-footed goalkeeper Max O'Leary. O'Hare added a late third as he swept the ball into the net unchallenged in the 83rd minute.
United were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season having managed only three wins in 38 games. They finished third in the 2024-25 Championship season, behind Leeds United and Burnley, who earned automatic promotion.

But that was before Rangers technical director Nils Koppen left Ibrox and the club's takeover. And Raith director Ruaridh Kilgour admits Raith are waiting to find out if Rangers will get back in touch. He said: 'It's not kind of one of [technical director] John Potter's priorities right now. 'There's a lot of other things going on, like just basically building a squad through the transfer window. 'But completely out of the blue, Rangers contacted John and asked him to go for a meeting at Murray Park with Nils Koppen, the then technical director. 'They said that they'd pinpointed Raith Rovers as someone they would like to have a partnership with to develop their young players. 'They then came to Stark's Park the week after to have a look around and see what the facilities are like, which again they were really impressed with. 'The way it was left was that we asked them to come up with a proposal of what this could look like. 'They saw this as something where they could potentially send us other players. And Kilgour insists Raith will only enter into a partnership if it is right for them and their fans. He added: "The way we will then approach this is decided on three factors. 'Number one will be a football factor where Barry [Robson] and John would make a decision based purely on the playing side of it. 'We as a board would make a financial decision on it about how this can help us with our budget, in terms of what the cost would be to bring in these players – or maybe they would be free, who knows. 'And then finally – and most importantly – there'd be a kind of brand perspective where we would put it to supporters. 'Because this is one of those decisions where we feel supporters should be consulted. And the reason for that is we know that some supporters will not like the potential to be partnered with other clubs." Tommy Fury forgot basic football rule during Soccer Aid - 'Worst I've seen'
With Tyson Fury set to feature at this year's Soccer Aid - he will be hoping not to embarrass himself on the field, unlike his younger brother Tommy Fury was brutally mocked after the Brit attempted an underarm throw-in during last year's Soccer Aid charity match. The professional boxer and reality TV star was part of a World XI managed by ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. The exhibition match - which helped raise more than £15million for Unicef - went the way of opponents England in a nine-goal thriller. However, the most viral moment came at 2-2. Fury, 26, shaped to take an orthodox throw-in before opting for the underarm delivery. Play was stopped moments later - with the boxer allowing a team-mate to take the throw as they were supposed to. The cameras quickly cut to Pochettino after the incident. Rather than remaining focused on the task at hand, the 53-year-old burst out laughing while gesturing towards the field of play. Needless to say that was probably as good as it got for Fury - who struggled to make an impact on the pitch. At one point, he completely missed the ball after attempting to smash it up the pitch. "It's a throw in Tommy, not bowling," one social media user wrote after watching the footage. "Hasn't been the same since the Jake Paul fight," joked another, referring to Fury's split decision victory over the YouTuber when the pair met in the boxing ring in 2023. His rival KSI quickly posted: " Tommy Fury should stick to boxing lmao, he's terrible at football," he tweeted. Another user posted: "Tommy Fury might be the worst footballer I've ever seen live." Another tweeted: "Tommy Fury is absolutely a** as footballer." A fifth fan commented: "I don't know if this makes sense but Tommy Fury plays football exactly how you'd imagine a boxer how to play football." A sixth joked: "I've had Soccer Aid on for two minutes & Tommy Fury could be the worst footballer I've ever seen." Another said: "Is Tommy fury the least coordinated man in all of human history?" Fury's partner Molly-Mae Hague was also quick to share her thoughts Fury's comical underarm throw-in. She very much saw the funny side of it as she took to her Instagram story to write: "Iconcic x," alongside a picture of Fury holding the ball. Despite being born and raised in Manchester, 'TNT' chose to play for the Rest of the World, as he was eligible through his mother Chantal, who is of Mauritian descent. Soccer Aid is getting underway for another year this weekend where plenty of celebrity faces will compete on the iconic Old Trafford grounds Soccer Aid is due to kick off this weekend where celebrities will will lacing up their football boots to raise money for charity. Soccer Aid was first launched in 2006 by former Take That star Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes. It initially took place every two years but is now an annual event. Females were first allowed to play in the game in 2019 and it is the only mixed-sex match officially sanctioned by The Football Association. 2020 saw the event held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.
