Dave Matthews Band coming to Birmingham June 24
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Dave Matthews Band, one of the biggest touring bands in the United States, will be coming to the yet-opened Coca-Cola Amphitheater in downtown Birmingham this summer.
The band, which has been a staple of the jam band scene since first forming in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991, will come to Birmingham June 24 as part of its widely anticipated summer tour. Last year, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Birmingham and Alabama were part of the band's success, playing the former Ivory Tusk in Tuscaloosa as well as the Oak Mountain Amphitheater in the early years.
The tour will kick off April 27 during Jazz Fest in New Orleans and end Aug. 31 at The Gorge in Washington state.
Throughout its run, DMB has sold over 33 million albums and countless bootleg recordings of its nearly 3,500-show run around the world over the last 30 years.
DMB's appearance at the Coca-Cola Amphitheater will be part of the new music venue's inaugural season, which will kick off with comedian Matt Rife's show on June 22.

A Birmingham Live reporter made the surprising revelation while visiting the Oxfordshire pub — which Clarkson opened last August — for a Sunday roast. 'You can't have coffee, ketchup or lemonade — there's a sign outside the pub explaining they don't serve coffee or ketchup,' they said. 'The people at the table next to us asked for a latte but were politely refused. I also asked for a cider shandy when we arrived but staff explained they don't sell lemonade.' Last month, the Clarkson's Farm star revealed US comedian Ellen DeGeneres has visited the joint since relocating to the Cotswolds. The Ellen DeGeneres Show host, 66, fled the US after Donald Trump was elected President. She moved to an Oxfordshire village with her wife, Portia de Rossi, 51, in November. Clarkson praised the star, saying she was 'very friendly' and 'lovely' to the staff at his pub. 'She lives in the village where our pub is. Absolutely I welcome them all,' he told The Mirror. 'Everyone said she has been cancelled but she seemed nice when she came to the pub, the staff said she was very friendly and lovely. I am not going to believe what I read online. She seemed lovely.' Clarkson previously admitted his pub 'is a total disaster' due to theft, high parking charges and toilet mishaps. Alabama 10-year-old featured in Nike commercial to star in feature film
Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) — You may have seen Aria May in a catchy Nike Ad with WNBA star A'ja Wilson that debuted in May of this year. The 10-year-old from Alabaster can be seen teaching the three-time WNBA MVP from the Las Vegas Aces how to do a hand clap to the tune of Miss Mary Mack — but with catchier lyrics about Wilson's bona fides as a WNBA all-star and her Signature Nike A'One Basketball Shoes. As for how they landed on that hand clap, Aria May said, 'We were doing hand claps seeing which one would be best for me, so I could like make it better. So, we did the hand claps, and I found the one that's best for me. Miss Mary Mack.' May, who is entering the fifth grade this year, is the same age the commercial's director was when she first came on the national stage. That director, Malia Obama, was 10 years old when her family moved into the White House following the election of President Barack Obama. Aria's mother, Tineshia May, said it was already a big deal that Aria booked Nike, but they were both surprised when they arrived at the commercial shoot and saw Malia Obama and A'ja Wilson. She explained that the production was kept secretive. 'I look over to my right and I said, oh — that looks like Malia Obama, and I was like, that can't be, you know, just sitting there,' Tineshia May said.
