‘Google creates stress': What IIT Bombay-educated ISKCON monk told Sundar Pichai
ISKCON monk Gauranga Das revealed an interesting anecdote about meeting Google CEO Sundar Pichai while speaking at a London event. Das, who holds a BTech from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, was addressing the audience on the final day of the India Global Forum 2025 when he revealed that Pichai – who is the same age as him – once complimented him on his youthful appearance. The spiritual leader attributed his appearance to the lack of stress as he spoke about the detrimental effects of social media in exacerbating feelings of stress and loneliness.
When an ISKCON monk met Sundar Pichai
Gauranga Das is an IIT Bombay graduate who left a promising career to embrace spirituality. Sundar Pichai, today the CEO of Google, is also an IIT graduate - he holds a BTech in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur.
Studying in different branches of IIT, albeit in the same batch, their paths never crossed while they were in college. However, while speaking at IGF London, Gauranga Das revealed that when he met Pichai, 53, years after graduating from college, the CEO of Google complimented his looks.
'I went to IIT in the same batch as Sundar Pichai. Years later, we met, and he said, 'You look younger than me.' I replied, 'You deal with Google, which creates stress. I deal with God, who releases stress,' said the ISKCON monk.
During his address, which took place at Taj St. James' Court, Gauranga Das also spoke aboyut the role of social media in digital addiction, loneliness, and anxiety. 'We have a huge problem. Globally, 230 million are addicted to social media. In Bharat alone, 70% of teenagers spend seven hours daily online. One in seven people around the world is suffering from mental health issues,' he said.
Who is Gauranga Das?
Gauranga Das, also known as Gauranga Prabhu (birth name ASK Anand) is an Indian Vaishnava monk and senior leader within ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness). He holds several positions within ISKCON.
Das left a corporate role early on to fully dedicate himself to spiritual and social work. He is also a published author with books like The Art of Resilience and The Art of Focus to his credit.
It is believed that he met Pichai during the wedding of Akash Ambani in 2019.

After Google and Microsoft, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff says: ‘AI is doing 30% to 50% of the work' at the company
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has claimed that AI is now performing '30% to 50% of the work' at the company. The latest statement highlights the major automation potential of artificial intelligence within the enterprise software giant. Benioff made this comment during an interview on Bloomberg's The Circuit show with Emily Chang, specifically pointing to job functions such as software engineering and customer service. This statement follows similar claims from other tech leaders, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google-parent Alphabet's chief Sundar Pichai, who have also mentioned that AI is generating about 30% of new computer software code on some projects. Earlier, Salesforce also noted that its internal use of AI has enabled the company to reduce its hiring needs. What CEO Marc Benioff said about using AI at Salesforce In the interview, Benioff noted: 'All of us have to get our head around this idea that AI can do things that before we were doing,' Benioff said. 'We can move on to do higher-value work.' The US-based software company is also developing an AI product designed to manage tasks like customer service without human involvement. After Maha Kumbh Mela, Gautam Adani offers biggest seva at…, 4 million free meals, drinks, T-shirts, jackets, raincoats, umbrellas and…
After its largely volunteer-driven effort to feed the masses during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year, the Adani Group has now turned its attention to another of India's most sacred festivals, the Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha. Held annually at the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri, the nine-day chariot procession attracts millions of devotees from across India and abroad. In keeping with chairman Gautam Adani's belief that 'Seva Hi Sadhana Hai' (Service is Worship), the Adani Group is undertaking a comprehensive seva effort to support both pilgrims and frontline officials during the Rath Yatra from June 26 to July 8, said PTI report citing sources. Gautam Adani Seva At Puri Rath Yatra This year's support includes nearly 4 million meals and drinks distributed free of cost; designated food counters providing free, nutritious meals to pilgrims and officials; beverage counters across the city offering cool drinks to beat the Odisha heat; support for lifeguards from the Puri Beach Lifeguard Mahasangha; volunteers for beach clean-up, especially plastic waste; free T-shirts for official volunteers; fluorescent safety vests for municipal workers; and also a variety of jackets, raincoats, caps and umbrellas for officials and devotees. This is through collaboration between the Adani Group, the Puri district administration, ISKCON and local volunteer organisations. The group, which has been working in Odisha through the Adani Foundation across sectors, such as rural healthcare, school infrastructure and livelihoods, sees this seva as part of a larger spiritual continuity in India's public life, reported PTI. Adani Group Seva At Maha Kumbh Mela For the Adani Group, corporate social responsibility has always extended beyond infrastructure, education and healthcare. Increasingly, it includes direct and active participation in India's spiritual and cultural life – not as a sponsor, but as sevak. Earlier this year, during the 45-day Maha Kumbh Mela, the Adani Group had supported food distribution and pilgrim welfare services on a massive scale in collaboration with ISKCON and Gita Press. On January 21, chairman Gautam Adani personally took part in seva at the Kumbh, underscoring the Group's message that social service is not a sideline activity but a central value. Through its Rath Yatra involvement, the Adani Group is not just offering services – it is reinforcing a view of development that is grounded in Indian culture, community and compassion. PTI report claimed that much of the planning is done with on-ground partners months in advance, the volunteers are from within the group or local communities, and the execution is often led by Adani coordinators, who have long-standing relationships in the region.
