Maren Morris 'nervous' before first date with a woman

Perth Now15-05-2025

Maren Morris was "nervous" before her first date with a woman.
The 35-year-old singer - who has five-year-old son Hayes with former husband Ryan Hurd - came out as bisexual last year and she's now told of how apprehensive she felt when she first tried to make a romantic connection with another female, but was relieved to have a great time.
Speaking on the 'U Up?' podcast, she said: "I had never been on a date with a woman. So, of course, I'm going to be like, 'What the hell does this is look like?' But then it was so easy and ended up being like a three-hour hang."
The 'Girl' singer has discovered she finds it much easier to make a deep connection with another woman than with a man.
She said: "My experience has been really positive. But I also have a confusion sometimes because I can connect with a woman, any woman, within like two minutes, and we'll be talking about our childhoods... Like, we will get into it so quickly. With a guy that would take like years to get into that trauma.
"But we're so good at building community out of sharing stories or gossip or whatever... It's a survival technique. We cling together out of vulnerabilities."
But bonding with women on an "emotionally deep level" has led to some confusion where Maren has found it difficult to establish if there is a romantic spark or not.
She said: "I sometimes have the hard delineation of romance versus friendship, because women can connect so quickly and easily, which is a magical thing about us.
"But that's the comparison, I guess, to dating men, right? Because I've been there. It's like, I have enough friends. I think I'm good. I'm looking for something beyond that. But sometimes the chemistry isn't there. It doesn't depend, you know, on the guy or the girl."
Maren recently revealed that she has a straightforward co-parenting relationship with Ryan, particularly as they only live five minutes away from one another.
Speaking to The Zoe Report, she said: "Our stops are really easy, and we'll have family dinners."
Hayes spends alternate weeks with each parent, meaning Maren has had to adjust to spending time on her own.
She said: "Those weeks I have him, the house is full of chaos and energy and laughter and scraped knees.
'And then, when he is not there, you have to recalibrate your alone-ness because you're like, 'Wow, this is just me in here now.' That's when I've leaned into it and not been drowned by my own company."

‘It can happen': Former Home and Away star reveals big news

Popular radio host Christie Hayes has revealed she is pregnant after a four year IVF journey. Ms Hayes, who is the co-host of The Hit Network's Dan & Christie, broke the big news during an emotional segment to listeners across regional Victoria and Tasmania. It comes as the former actress kept her battle with fertility challenges in the spotlight, including a heartbreaking 'non-viable' pregnancy with husband Justin Coombes-Pearce last year. 'It's been four years in the making … I am pregnant,' she said on air with co-host Dan Taylor on Monday morning. 'We are ecstatic, we are safe, and we're in the second trimester already. 'I just want you to know that if you are going through IVF – I have been where you are,' Ms Hayes added. I just want you to know that it can happen. 'When you least expect it, your life can change.' Ms Hayes thanked her listeners for being alongside her through her journey and on the egg transfer day. 'I truly from the bottom of my heart believe that when I walked in that day I was surrounded by love and optimism and encouragement, and hope,' she said. The mum-of-two surprised Mr Taylor off-air three weeks ago with a lunch box full of positive pregnancy tests. In September 2024, she opened up about the devastating moment she was told her pregnancy at the time was not viable. Ms Hayes said instead of waiting for confirmation from a doctor, she 'did what you're not supposed to do' during IVF and took things into her own hands. After testing positive to two tests at home, she went to get a blood test to confirm the pregnancy. Instead, she left with heartbreak. It's grief all over again. That's the worst thing with IVF, is the waiting and waiting, and then the grief, no one tells you about. 'You put so much time and energy into something, you try so hard, and then it's ripped away from you,' Ms Hayes added. She decided she was going to share her story on-air to let others going down the same path know they're not alone. 'Where there is hope, there is life,' she said. 'So, thank you.'

Girl, so surprising: pop star Lorde stuns fans by crashing theme party

New Zealand pop star Lorde has sent fans into a spin by crashing a club night party in her honour. Sydney venue Mary's Underground hosted a night dedicated to 'our true Lorde and saviour' on May 25 with a room full of Lorde fans flooding the dancefloor before the surprise guest arrived. Lorde reportedly snuck onto the dancefloor in disguise, but it wasn't long until her fans realised that she was in their midst. The Grammy-winner jumped behind the decks with Sugarush DJ Emma Parke, singing along to her new release What Was That and her collaboration with Charli XCX, Girl, So Confusing. Ms Parke was "still in disbelief" over the pop star's surprise appearance, saying the night was one that she would be talking about for years to come. "After years of throwing events, this was one of the most rewarding nights of my life. Completely unmatched," she said on May 26. It was reportedly Lorde's idea to crash the event, as she prepares to release a new album, Virgin, on June 27. Superstar Lorde crashes her own theme party at Sydney nightclub

What Was That is the lead single from pop singer Lorde's new album – but it also aptly describes the reactions of some lucky Sydney fans who couldn't believe their eyes when the Kiwi star turned up on the dance floor among them at the weekend. On Sunday night, the Grammy award-winning songstress made a surprise appearance at a Lorde-themed night at Mary's Underground nightclub, delighting unsuspecting fans. 'Lorde appearing at Mary's Underground in Sydney tonight was not on my 2025 bingo card but I fear I've won,' a user posted on TikTok. Footage shows the 28-year-old singer belting out her own lyrics and dancing with fans to Girl, so confusing remix with Charli XCX. At one point, she gets behind the DJ decks while fans dance around her, using their phones to create a giant spotlight. 'We're officially in the L4 era, so it's only right we throw a party for our true Lorde and saviour!' Mary's Underground wrote on Instagram. Loading The surprise appearance comes after the singer announced her new album Virgin and Ultrasound Tour – her first album in four years. The album is out on June 27 and the tour kicks off in September with a series of US and European venues. However, no Australian dates have been announced yet. Random appearances and pop-up concerts have become a popular marketing tool for Lorde. Last month, the singer surprised her fans and told them to 'Meet me in the park. Tonight 7pm.'
