Marin Cilic and Nicolai Budkov Kjaer to compete at Nottingham Open
Former US Open champion Marin Cilic and former junior world number ones Nicolai Budkov Kjaer and Martin Landaluce will be among those competing for the Lexus Nottingham Open title, with the men's entry list confirmed today by the LTA.
2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic, who reached a career-high of number three in the world in 2018, has a history on British grass, claiming the title in 2018 at the Queen's Club in London and reaching the 2017 men's singles final at The Championships, Wimbledon.
Norway's Budkov Kjaer, 18, has already shown an aptitude for grass, having claimed the junior boys' singles title at Wimbledon in 2024, and has made a good start to his professional career in 2025, claiming his first Challenger title at the Lexus British Pro Series in Glasgow in February.
He is joined by Spain's Martin Landaluce, who last year became the youngest Spaniard to win an ATP Challenger title since a certain Rafael Nadal.
Amy Hitchinson, Tournament Director of the Lexus Nottingham Open, said, 'Two former junior world number ones and a grand slam champion in an already packed men's lineup guarantees spectators will be treated to some really exciting tennis over the course of the week.
'Whether it's their first year on the tour or their 20th, every player in the field is a fierce competitor, and they will give it their all to get their hands on the trophy.'
Budkov Kjaier and Landaluce are not the only young guns looking for their maiden grass-court title in Nottingham.
21-year-old Italian Luca Nardi, the highest-ranked player in the field, goes for his eighth Challenger title in total, whilst Frenchman Arthur Cazaux, who lost out to Andy Murray in the final in Nottingham in 2023, returns to the East Midlands to try and go one step further.
American Chris Eubanks, a former world number 29 and Wimbledon quarter finalist in 2023, will also feature at the Lexus Nottingham Tennis Centre, whilst Britain's Jay Clarke, who recently claimed his first ATP Challenger title since 2022 in North Macedonia, has also committed to the event. The entry list for the women's event was released earlier in May, confirming 2022 champion and former top ten player Beatriz Haddad Maia will feature alongside Britain's Katie Boulter, who returns seeking a third consecutive title at her home event.
Tickets are still available for this year's Lexus Nottingham Open, with Centre Court tickets starting from just £13, grounds admission tickets starting from £12 for adults and kids go free, available to purchase on the LTA website.

Last month, a replica World War One plane finally took to the skies above a Royal Air Force station in Scotland. Though the planes were 'modestly successful,' they quickly became obsolete in the face of Germany's new Albatros aircrafts. The name Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter comes from the unique arrangement of its struts (the thin beams that support the top wings), though the society's volunteers have more sensibly nicknamed their replica 'Sophie.' For now, Sophie is undergoing test flights. Once it completes the test phase and accomplishes five flight hours, it'll be allowed to carry an additional person in the passenger seat behind the pilot, per the BBC. 'I'm used to flying modern aeroplanes from the 50s and 60s—the classics—and they're very different from this aeroplane to fly. This is very much more of a challenge,' aircraft inspector Tim Rayner, who pilots the test flights, told the BBC after May's 15-minute flight. 'The controls are nowhere near as responsive as they became as we developed better technologies. This is 1915 and it's not that many years since the first flight so you've got to look at it as flying as you would expect for an aircraft of that era.' Talk about an ambitious hobby.

Associated Press LONDON (AP) — David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the U.N. children's fund for two decades, is to receive a knighthood in next week's honors list from King Charles III, according to U.K. media reports Friday. Without citing sources, the BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition both for his soccer career, and his contributions to British society. The knighthood will make Beckham 'Sir David' while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will become 'Lady Beckham.' In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honor for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honors are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the press reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the award of the knighthood, which was first reported in The Sun tabloid newspaper.
