UNION COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man reported missing six years ago is alive and well living in the midwest, according to authorities.
The Union County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday that David Collin Barber, of Union, was recently located in South Dakota.
Barber was reported missing to the sheriff's office in 2019 and investigators have been trying to locate him since following leads from family members, residents and Crimestoppers.
In April of this year the sheriff's office, in conjunction with Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office cold case unit reviewed Barber's file again and developed new leads.
On Tuesday investigators got a tip Barber had been seen on the west coast in 2019. While following the lead investigators learned Barber was now in South Dakota.
Law enforcement agencies in the area were able to locate him and stated he is 'doing well.'
'We are thankful for the efforts of those who assisted in the search for Collin and the tips that came in that lead to this positive outcome for his loved ones,' said Union County Sheriff Jeff Bailey.

Bronx suspect wanted for stabbing 39-year-old man to death escaped in cab

A suspect wanted for stabbing a 39-year-old man to death outside a historic former Bronx NYPD stationhouse made his getaway in a cab — where a surveillance camera captured his image, police said Wednesday. Cops on Wednesday released a surveillance image of the suspect taken inside the cab and asked the public's help identifying him and tracking him down. Victim Shamel Parnell got into an argument with his killer before being stabbed in the neck and chest on Bathgate Ave. near E. Tremont Ave. at about 12:20 a.m. Monday, cops said. Medics rushed Parnell to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died about 25 minutes later, officials said. 'I still haven't cried,' the victim's shocked mother, Sherri Parnell, 61, told the Daily News Tuesday. 'I couldn't sleep last night. I still can't believe it.' The stabber fled in a dark-colored cab last seen heading west on E. 179th St., cops said. Cops recovered a knife at the scene. Sherri Parnell hadn't seen her son for more than a decade when he was killed. 'He stayed with me a little when I lived in another part of the Bronx but he'd always be going out, coming in,' she said. 'I didn't know what he was doing,' 'When the officers came yesterday, they showed me a picture and it was him,' she added. 'I haven't seen him in some years, many years really. Approximately 12 years. But that's still my son.' The building Parnell was stabbed in front of housed the NYPD's 48th Precinct for decades but is now home to a Head Start program. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 for its notable architecture. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

'Scouse Paul', the untraceable ghost, and a £180k criminal empire

A drug dealer at the helm of an £180,000 'Scouse Paul' county lines operation was found in possession of Greater Manchester's first untraceable 'ghost gun'. Police found a 'significant amount' of crack cocaine and heroin valued at around £28,500 when they raided Veke Koissia Soumahoro's Bolton home in November 2024. In a GMP first, detectives also uncovered a Polymer80 'ghost gun' that had been assembled from a kit containing parts with no serial numbers. At a hearing at Bolton Crown Court on Tuesday (June 3), Soumahoro pleaded guilty to a slew of drugs and firearms offences and was sentenced to seven years and six months behind bars. Police said it was estimated that over 1.8kg of drugs had been distributed within Bolton between February and November 2024 as part of the 'Scouse Paul' operation. Soumahoro, of Mornington Road, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate, being concerned in the supply of heroin, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin, and possession with intent to supply crack cocaine. Detective Constable Daniel Woodburn, of our County Lines Team, said: 'This was an investigation into a Class A drugs line branded 'Scouse Paul' that was based in Bolton. 'It was estimated that just over 1.8kg of drugs had been distributed within Bolton between February and November 2024. 'Not only have we taken a significant drugs line off the streets, but also a viable 'ghost gun' that could have been used for further criminality. 'What started out as an investigation into a drugs line ended with a viable firearm being removed from the streets. 'We will continue to pursue those who engage in such criminal activities across Greater Manchester. 'We rely on information from the public to be our eyes and ears on the streets - help us to rid your communities of drugs and related crime by reporting information about drug dealing and other issues. 'You can also report information and crimes on our website using the 'report' tool. "Alternatively, you can report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 in an emergency.'
