Just Funerals parlour fire linked to family fight over Mongrel Mobster Nassey August's body
Meanwhile, a woman has posted on social media saying she and her family did not know where her uncle's body was. He was patched mobster Nassey August.
The woman said she wanted information on the whereabouts of August's next of kin.
She claimed August's body was taken from North Shore Hospital, where he died, to Just Funerals.
'The ongoing lack of transparency has caused our whānau immense pain and distress. We will not rest until we have the truth, and until our uncle is returned to us so he may be honoured with love, respect.
'It has now been five days since the passing of our beloved uncle ... yet we remain without answers regarding the whereabouts of his remains. Our whānau is devastated and urgently calls on anyone with information ... to come forward immediately.
'Denying a whānau the right to farewell their loved one properly is a deep injustice, both culturally and spiritually,' she said.
A police spokesman refused to comment on the claims.
'Police won't be speculating about the circumstances surrounding the fire at this time. An investigation into the fire last night remains ongoing,' the spokesman said.
The funeral home also said they would not be commenting.
Fire investigators comb ravaged property
Fire and Emergency and police investigators remained at the two-storey property this morning, sifting through the damage.
The brick and tile property was left with a smashed front door with scorch marks blackening the outside of a broken side window.
The damage was minor, and no injuries were reported.
'Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area or who may have information to assist with this investigation,' Hayward said.
A neighbour said she heard loud noises overnight.
'We heard some noise last night, but I thought it was the wind and rain,' said the woman, who did not want to be named.
She said it was 'sad' to hear the funeral premises had been hit by a fire.

Australian shopping centre thrown into lockdown after alleged machete argument
Police say the shopping centre went into lockdown as part of their own procedures after armed males were seen arguing. Photo: ABC / Peter Healy A shopping centre in Melbourne's west has been locked down after the second incident involving machetes in a fortnight. Victoria police said a group of between five and six males armed with machetes were arguing inside the CS Square shopping centre in Caroline Springs about 6:40pm (8.40pm NZT) on Friday. The centre went into lockdown as police arrived and officers found the group had already fled the scene. No injuries have been reported and police say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on (+61) 1800 333 000 or online. The lockdown came after a dramatic pre-organised gang brawl involving machetes inside the Northland Shopping Centre in Preston forced its evacuation in May. Seven people have since been arrested and charged over the Preston incident. Following the incident, the Victorian government enacted a total sales ban on machetes on 28 May. However, the possession of a machete will not become prohibited until a legislated ban comes into effect on 1 September. The penalty for Victorians in possession of a machete will be a fine of more than AU$47,000 (NZ$51,000) or two years in jail. - ABC

Historic ship on fire near Paihia's Waitangi Bridge
The Tui. Photo: RNZ / Peter de Graaf A historic ship is on fire by the Waitangi Bridge in Paihia. The Tui is a three-masted sailing ship that has been a feature of the Waitangi waterfront since the late Kelly Tarlton bought the historic vessel and used it to house his finds from a lifetime of exploring shipwrecks. Four fire crews are fighting the blaze after Fire and Emergency received multiple calls about it after 4am. "The timber ship is fully on fire and is already significantly damaged." No one was on board the ship overnight. "The fire is generating some smoke around Paihia and Waitangi and people are advised to avoid the area and keep windows shut," Fire and Emergency says. It was not yet known how the fire started.
